Nowadays, celebrity culture is getting bigger and bigger. Thanks to the internet, especially social media, they can be heard in every corner of the world. Consequently, their power of influencing people has considerably increased. For example, so known internet celebrities, such as Lilly Singh or Tyler Oakley have taken a big part in celebrity culture due to their huge impact in various online platforms. But how do celebrities use this power? Are they worthy to have such power in their hands?
On one hand, celebrities can help make this world a better place in many ways. All kinds of people from all around the world have raised their voice for those who can’t and fight for what is right. Let’s take Ellen DeGeneres as an example. She has become an icon for the fight for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. She’s widely renowned for her humanitarian work and has even been condecorated with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The best example is the Logan Paul, a twenty-two-year-old vlogger who is considered one of the most influential people on YouTube, particularly for children. He recently caused a immense controversy for recording a dead man in his visit to Japan and even making jokes about it. But that’s not the only problem he has caused. He’s so focused in being in the spotlight, that he doesn’t realise his actions absolutely lack of common sense, education, and most of all respect.
