The construction design and management regulations of 2015 are rules which govern the way all types of construction projects are planned. These regulations have been put into place to ensure that all health and safety issues within a project are considered which will reduce the risks during the project.
CDM is used to aid workers in the planning of work so that any risks throughout the initial, end and in-between stages are managed, as well as helping in having the correct workers for each job throughout the project. Furthermore, CDM helps for the information of risks and their management to be communicated to those who require it.

This designer is appointed by the client on projects with more than one contractor. The main duty of the principle designer is to plan, manage and monitor the health and safety in this phase, again, trying to eliminate or reduce the risks which may be present. Furthermore, they are required to help gather pre-construction information for the client as well as a health and safety file, which will be updated as the project is reaches later stages.

Principle contractors:
The principle contractor is employed by the client on projects with more than one contractor. They are required to plan, manage and monitor the construction phase of the project. It is their duty to communicate efficiently with the client and principle designer in order to get the best out the construction phase. Furthermore, the principle contractor has the duty of giving the contactors suitable jobs and ensuring that they cooperate with each other to have the desired end result. The main duty as specified in CDM 2015 of the contractor is to plan, manage and monitor the construction phase work so that health and safety of those who may be affected, is ensured. These could include members of the public and the actual workers on site. Moreover, contractors have the duty to ensure subcontractors work in such a way which abides by the health and safety requirements. They also have the task of providing supervision on the project during construction. Contractors must also ensure that anyone employed by them have been given information and instructions so that they may carry out their work without risk to health and safety, including information about emergency procedures and relevant hazards. A very important duty given to the contractor is to ensure work doesn’t begin until steps have been taken to prevent unauthorised site
