It seems that everyone has heard the old adage “life is short.” If that’s true, then high-school is even shorter and there’s a lot to do. For today’s teens there is a lot of pressure to do everything; sports, Clubs, get good grades, have a lot of friends, spend time with their family, and other social pressures. Sadly it is nearly impossible to do everything, there simply are not enough hours in the day. Each year teenagers are faced with a choice of how to spend what little free time they have. Some choose to do sports such as Volleyball, football, baseball, or soccer; others are more creative and join choir, theatre, art, band, or guard. The causes of joining winter guard are a desire to make new friends, develop good health habits, and learn …show more content…
how to work with a team. The first reason to join the winter guard team is to make friends.
Members of winter guard have an extremely unique opportunity to be a part of a group of people who truly trust and care for each other. On days guard practices the team members can be together at school as late as nine-o’clock. Although practice doesn’t start till five, many of the girls on the team stay at school and do their homework. They then as a group get dinner because it allows them more time together and to do schoolwork. You will have a lot of time to bond with other members in guard. Whether it’s during practice, on the bus to a competition, or at a competition itself the company never gets tiring and is always there to be a shoulder to cry on when needed. guard Another reason to join guard is because of the health benefits. Spinning flags takes a lot of strength and the average winter guard routine can last from eight to ten minutes. Winter guard is surprisingly very physically demanding. Once having joined winter guard rigorous training will follow. The formentioned training will consist of yoga, dancing, breathing exercises for stamina, and muscle building. Through this, and showing up and putting forth minimal effort one’s health will drastically improve over the course of the season. Yet another way guard helps with health is that it will teach one how to use the machines in the weight room. Many people do not know how to lift weights and could seriously damage themselves trying. Learning how to lift will not only help improve one’s health, but will give them the tools to do so in the future. There are many health benefits in becoming a member of winter guard. The last cause of becoming a member of winter guard is that it will teach you how to work with other people.
Although most people on the team are friends, disagreements are bound to arise and have to be worked through in order to make a show. Each person is an individual and will have different ideas and perspectives and it is an important life skill to learn to respect other people’s thoughts. As a member of the guard one will need to learn to take criticism. It is hard to listen to what other people say is being done wrong, especially when one has worked hard on something. But, it is important to know there will never be any improvement unless it is allowed. Through the contributions of others one can
becomes the best they can be. It has been said over and over again that there is no “I” in team. This certainly rings true in the guard. Everyone wants to help each other out if they can. Teamwork is very important skill to have to be a successful person, being a member of winter guard teaches that skill.
There are many lessons taught in school, none as meaningful as how to work with other people, or how to maintain one’s health, nor as important as friendship. Winter guard is a great team for people looking for a creative outlet. The sense of camaraderie, teamwork, and health benefits, make winter guard a great place to spend one’s time. All in all one would become a member of the guard for a myriad of reasons, but mostly because it’s what one loves to do. Passion makes us
all.

Making the transition from middle school to high school is a huge stepping stone in a teenager’s life. High school represents both the ending of a childhood and the beginning of adulthood. It’s a rite of passage and often many teens have the wrong impression when beginning this passage. Most began high school with learning the last thing on their mind. They come in looking for a story like adventure and have a false sense of reality created through fabricated movie plots acted out by fictional characters. In all actuality high school is nothing like you see in movies, television shows, or what you read about in magazines.
Ever since my first visit, I have researched the Academy Extensively, exploring what it takes to become a cadet. When first informed of the chance to attend the Summer Seminar, I was finally given the opportunity to experience cadet life first hand. To attend the Seminar, I would be given a glimpse of what to expect at military Service Academy. My Expectations of the Seminar are to be taught the basic of military customs and courtesies and apply these skills to leadership applications such as drill and ceremonies (e.g. marching a flight or passing a drill inspection). Physical training will be an integral part of the academy experience. So, participation in team sports and obstacle courses will test us physical and mentally pushing us to work together. Induvial fitness will be a priority because of the intense training of the Academy. Overall, I believe the Seminar to be a learning experience for many people seeking to become a cadet. The information being beneficial for those seeking to become a future Falcon at the
The crisp New Hampshire air chilled the private school students with its sickly cold fingers as it would rage by with a fury that would disappear as soon as it came. The grey skies which hovered above stole away the sun so that the warring world around them seemed all the more dismal and depressing. Despite the hanging feeling of dread the weather and World War seemed to influence, the boys themselves were almost giddy with the merry thoughts that plagued their juvenile minds. It was almost the end of the day which would give way to a freezing night where most people would prefer to sleep or stay indoors; however, that was not the case with these merry men of the winter session as they hastily prepared the scenery around them with the promise of prizes, the guarantee of games, and the silhouettes of snow statues.
Since the completion of my training program I have had students of varying ages, disabilities and skiing levels. They have provided many new learning experiences for me. Without a doubt I have consistently observed the pleasure this sport gives to the students and their families. Physical and mental growth are very important to the overall well being of the student. Sharing my skills and love of skiing has been fun and rewarding to me.
Winter Clothes is a poem about clothes that one would wear during the winter. The to me brings the image of Randy from A Christmas Story, where his mother puts layer upon layer of winter clothes on him to the point when he can not put his hands down to his sides, He falls over and due to the layers cant get up. The poem describes a kid with layer over layer of winter clothes. The topic of this poem is one kids can relate to due to the fact that as kids we all have had to go through this at one point. Winter Clothes can also be used as a helpful tool to help kids learn about layering and even dressing themselves during the winter months. Appropriate for 1st grade-5th
People work in groups or teams everyday whether in their career, education, political organization, church, or any other social setting. Conflict while working in teams or groups is inevitable. When taking people of different backgrounds, personalities, moral, and ethical beliefs and putting them together in a group, conflict will arise. The key to achieving your team goals is to construct and conquer your goals with keeping the greater good of the team in mind. Conflict as it arises should be combated and abated through swift and thorough resolution techniques. When dealt with properly conflict resolution can give rise to a cohesive and productive team.
For people to feel free to express what’s on their mind they must have an open communication with their colleagues, be honest with each other, and respectful. Of course a team does not agree on certain topics and that’s okay. A disagreement makes room for people to explore their own minds and pushes them to think outside of the norm. Disagreements always need to be handle with a high level of professionalism or it can easily turn into negative energy for the team. People will need to know they have other’s attention and that their input is being taken serious and possibly into consideration as a new solution.
The team members compete for their position as they try to establish themselves in relation to other team members and the leader, who may receive challenges from team members.
As the old saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure." The dynamics of a team can be very diverse. Sometimes that's good and sometimes it's bad. It is so important to extinguish all issues from the very beginning because otherwise they lie buried and slowly build into something that is blown out of proportion. It is important to safeguard the team from this by setting up a system of routine meetings, and team rules to where people have a chance to discuss and solve potential problems in an open unbiased forum.
''Teamwork is a fundamental lesson in the military. At basic training, you learn about being a member of a unit. You do not focus on the first person to cross the finish line. You do not focus on the last person to cross the finish line. What matters most — what matters entirely — is that every unit member understands that everyone crosses the finish line"(mydd.com)
As I develop my team I am looking for the challenges and norms that the forming, storming and norming stages of team development will possibly experience. The focus of this theory is to become a more effective team. Following through with these stages we can become an effective team, however the challenges and norms we will face normally most teams go through. Starting out with forming my team we will face a few challenges as we begin orienting ourselves and becoming familiar with each other. With different personalities coming together there may be some biased perceptions that may cloud the members ' judgement of one another. A challenge that we face has to do with different aspects of each member 's personality, skills and setting the terms as to what needs to happen when making decisions as a team. This first stage is crucial because of the manner of getting to know who you will be working with and recognizing everyone 's goals to see if you all fit together; it is like building a puzzle. However excruciating this may sound, creative minds can sometimes make great decisions and other times can bump heads and unfortunately waste time when trying to make decisions to accomplish the work. The storming stage is where some conflict begins to arise in the team as we look for solutions. There will be confrontation as the team members will look at themselves as individuals versus
Likewise, the conflict should be acknowledged as soon as it is seen and prepare for the resolution. During such time, the discussion about it plays vital role towards resolving the conflict. In order to maximize team efforts, teammates must cooperate with each other and try to resolve conflict with proper and transparent communication. While resolving a conflict, it is also important for the teammates to remember why they are together in the first place and follow their best foundational strategy.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
