Rhabdomyolysis is a disease that involves a rupture of skeletal muscle, causing myoglobin, along with electrolytes and other intracellular proteins to leak in to circular system (Bagley et al, 2007). It is the result from the destruction of muscle fibers that make their way into the bloodstream, which take over the renal system hindering the kidneys ability to remove waste resulting in kidney failure (Owens, 2013). Rhabdomyolysis is rare and has not been fully documented. According to Efstratiadis et al, rhabdomyolysis was solely associated with crush injuries, but in recent studies, it appears to be five times more frequent in non-traumatic causes (2007). Damaging electrolyte disorders and acute renal failure may occur, leading to life-threatening situations. Some of the most common signs and symptoms of patients with rhabdomyolysis are colored urine, and muscle weakness is and Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). The prognosis for individuals depends on the underlying cause of the trauma. Early recognition and knowing the symptoms are important in identifying rhabdomyolysis versus DOMS, whereas a misdiagnosis can be fatal. Whether a person has been working out for years or is a beginner, knowing the limits of their body is critical when preforming new exercise programs or workouts. Many of the cases of rhabdomyolysis may be associated with various causes of muscle and kidney damage, leading to electrolyte imbalance and hospitalization. Another microscopic change that would be noticed is the accumulation of white blood cells. White blood cells have a very specific function which is to clear the damaged muscle fibers from the debris. Clearly, due to some of the muscle fibers being damaged other healthy fibers that have not been damaged appear denser. By having damaged muscle fibers, all the work rest upon the healthy fibers making them contract to the fullest due to the fact that the myosin and acting would have to overlap even more to make the muscle work.

Hypokinetic Dysarthria is a motor speech disorder that is often associated with Parkinson’s disease (PD). It can occur when there is interference in the basal ganglia control circuit. These disruptions can include “degenerative, vascular, traumatic, infectious, inflammatory, neoplastic, and toxic-metabolic diseases (Duffy, 2013, p. 176).” Damage to the basal ganglia control circuit results in reduced range of motion as well as the inability to inhibit involuntary movements. Hypokinetic dysarthria is most commonly caused by PD; a progressive, neurogenic disease that is characterized by tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement, and incoordination. Eighty-seven percent of hypokinetic dysarthria cases are associated with degenerative disease (Duffy, 2013).
“Dystrophy,” originally coming from the Greek “dys,” which means “difficult” or “faulty, and “trophe,” meaning “nourishment” holds the interpretation “poor nutrition.” Today we know poor nutrition is not the cause of Muscular Dystrophy (“Myotonic Dystrophy”). Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder that affects between 500-600 newborns each year in the US (Statistics on Muscular Dystrophy). In general, this disorder weakens your skeletal muscles, and eventually they degenerate. Muscular Dystrophy also has several specific types within the disorder, such as: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Becker Muscular Dystrophy, and Myotonic Dystrophy. Each one has their own specific characteristics.
There are many ways you can prevent injuries from happening before they do occur. Make sure you lift the right amount of weight to ensure that your body won’t wear down or you won’t injure yourself. Lifting more than you need to will only make your body worse. Using poor form can get you hurt quicker and easier than any other way. Make sure that you are using the correct form even if that means hiring a trainer or having a spotter. Workouts that you know can help because you will know the correct position. Workouts without machinery and weights have a lesser risk of hurting you. Cassidy says, “Years of intense workouts take a toll on your body..... Since then, professionals have redesigned and renovated the techniques and equipment used in this field. To begin with, symptoms for this will include swelling, bruising and tenderness around a muscle. This overall affects movement because, an individual would find it very difficult to move the affected body part because, this would be very painful if the specific muscle or the joint which, is in relation to the muscle is being used as the muscles will also be very stiff (1 and 2). Overexerting the body too much can lead to problems such as heart failure, unnatural weight loss and increases dehydration. “Your levels of cortisol, or stress hormones, tend to increase. It is possible to experience a decrease in testosterone levels, which can have negative consequences for men and women alike. She also explains a symptom called Overtraining syndrome which is resulted from extreme exercising and how it mentally affects the body. “If you are not feeling your usual excitement for your fitness regimen or sport, or if you do not feel mentally prepared for exercise or competition, you could be experiencing the psychological effects of overtraining syndrome. You might also experience sleep disturbances, or feel drowsy during the day and unable to rest at night.
