The movie I watched is CATS. I watched it in my home around 3:45pm on 21st September 2015. The movie is about a tribe of cats call “Jellicle Tribe”, who meet once a year at the Jellicle Ball, where they rejoice with their leader. Only one cat will be selected by the leader to go to the Heaviside Layer to be reborn and come back with a different life during the ball. My favorite scene is where they find Mr. Mistoffelees, where he does all the magic and then eventually bring back their leader: Old Deuteromy. It’s a cheerful song and somehow addictive to me. My least favorite scene would be the scene where Jellylorum sings about Gus: the theatre cat. I do not hate the scene, it is just after so many scenes of introducing the cats, I’m a little bit …show more content…
Mistoffelees. The song is sang by The Rum Tum Tugger. He had a rather smoky tone in his voice, I can’t tell if he is a tenor or a bass, because the song doesn’t has very high pitched or low pitched notes. The piece has a bright tone, the instruments used were brass, percussions, and even electronic instruments: there electric guitar in the background. The music basically has 4 beats in each measure, which can be heard clearly when they are singing the chorus. The song has a homophonic texture, where all the music supports the main melody. Macavity: The Mystery cat, would be another composition I would like to discuss. Even though he is the main antagonist in the movie, I still think they did a pretty good job on introducing him. The piece is sang by two female cats. The instruments used were the brass, percussions . They give out a mysterious feeling or tone. They are normally softer between the verse, and got louder as they go to the chorus, which lyrics is “Macavity, Macavity…..” There are 4 beats in each measure, which is a quadruple meter. They did stress some notes which I think that the notes are receiving a dynamic
The Australian film institute has been seeking recommendations on what Australian film should be included in an international Australian Film festival in late 2016. The inclusion of the film Red Dog should be definite and I am here to persuade you why. Released in 2011, Red dog is the retold story of the Pilbara wanderer. However this wanderer was not a human, he was a Kelpie that touched the hearts of many throughout Western Australia. Director Kriv Stenders has taken the true story of Red Dog and recreated it into a heart jerking film. During the film viewers are exposed to the history,
Environment has always played an important role on how children are raised. Throughout child developmental psychology, many different theorist’s views on how environment effects a child development differently, or if it plays any role at all in a child developing with a healthy psyche. In the film Babies (2010), we are introduced to two human babies living in distinctively different parts of the world and we are given a glimpse of their lives as they grow and develop. In the film, we are introduced to Ponijao from the rural area of Opuwo, Namibia, who lives with his mother and his siblings. In another area of the world, the urban city of San Francisco, U.S., we are introduced to Hattie, who lives with her mother and father.
To fully understand the relationship between a filmmaker and a composer, it is helpful to take a closer look at the filmmaker’s position towards music in film in general; these can of course differ substantially from one director to another. It seems, one must think, that the complete narrative and emotive potential of film music is not yet fully recognized and appreciated in many film produc...

I chose to view the movie Lion, a movie based on the book A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley. This movie is about a five-year-old boy, Saroo, living in a poor, rural area in India. Saroo convinces his older brother Guddu, to let him tag along and find work in a nearby city. Saroo ends up trapped and alone in a decommissioned passenger train that takes him to Calcutta, over 1,000 miles away from his home.

music to analyse—in fact, the music runs almost constantly throughout the film without very little
The Bad and The Beautiful (1952) and State and Main (2000) are films within films that unmask Hollywood Cinema as a dream factory and expose the grotesque, veneer hidden by the luxury of stars. The Bad and the Beautiful, directed by Vincent Minnelli, is a black and white film narrated in flashback form. The films theatrical nature requires more close-ups than wide-screen shots to capture the character’s psychological turmoil. For example, Fred and Jonathan’s car ride is captured in a close-up to signify their friendship; however their relationship deteriorates after Jonathan’s deceit. While the camera zooms out, Fred stands alone motionless. Here, Fred is captured from a distance at eye-level and he becomes ostracized by the film industry and
The film Babies is a film that follows four babies from San Francisco, Tokyo, Mongolia, and Namibia through their first year of life. The film has no talking or narrative. In many scenes, you don’t even see adults. This helps you get to see a baby’s perspective on the world. This movie showed how different cultures are when it comes to raising children.
Lee Daniel’s Precious is a movie centered around Precious Jones, a 16-year-old overweight black girl living in Harlem, New York. The movie begins when she is in public school pregnant with her second child by her father. Because Precious is pregnant, the principle recommends an alternative school for her. At home, Precious is a servant to her mother, Mary, who is physically, emotionally, verbally, and sexually abusing her. Mary constantly tells Precious that she is not good enough and that no one will ever want her. At times of distress, Precious tends to dissociate and fantasize about another life where she is a blonde white girl. She wants to be famous and loved by all. Precious arrives at the alternative school hardly knowing how to read or write. She gets placed in a class of girls with a dedicated teacher, Ms. Rain. Ms. Rain asks each student to write in a journal every day, and she will write back to their letters. This is the first time in the movie when Precious feels very
The Disney 2D animation allows viewers to simulate many life lessons. The structure of the movie is well rounded for a variety of all age audience. The movie starts off with a Native American tribe in the Pacific Northwest introduces three brothers: Sitka (voice by D.B. Sweeney) the eldest brother/ peacemaker , Denahi (Jason Raize) the controlling middle brother, and Kenai (Joaquin Phoenix) the free spirited mischievous youngest brother. Part of the Native American tradition is the coming – of – age ceremony. This is when a boy becomes a man and is presented with a totem of the animal he embodies. Sitka’s totem is an eagle that stands for leadership; Denahi’s totem is a wolf which represents wisdom, and Kenai is a bear that represents
While watching, examples of this can be found when Ethan’s family is under attack until you hear Scar’s horneall. Or, when Brad is killed, there is no music under the attack. The music was able to tell which shot killed him. During the film you can also find mise-en-scene. This comes from the love affair of Martha and Ethan.
Music can decipher a narrative event by indicating a perspective. To unify a set of diverse images and provide rhythmic and formal continuity and momentum, a film’s structure is more often than not, directly articulated by a musical structure. Music can assist the dialogue and visuals of film and often is inaudible (e.g. music is meant to be heard unconsciously, not consciously). Music has been used by directors to reinforce or strengthen certain weak scenes in film and then on the other hand when music is not needed to reinforce a scene
One example is the introduction scene in Edward Scissorhands. Tim Burton adds scary music to introduce Edward, and give his audience a thrill letting them know that this movie is going to be full of suspense and emotion based off of the music Burton chose. Burton uses music as a way to connect the audience with the characters in the movie, like Edward. Edward’s character is scary by itself because of his scissor replaced hands. In a scene where Edward hurt Kim’s boyfriend Jim, Burton added suspenseful music to add conflict in this scene because after hurting Jim, Edward is in trouble.
The importance of music in movies is highly regarded for manipulating the viewer’s emotions and helping them immerse into the story. Music is one of the prime elements in cinema. Without it a movie would feel dull and unexciting. There are three elements in a movie: one is acting, the second is picture, and the third one is music. It is a holy trinity; if incomplete, there would be a lack of sensation and excitement. Both acting and picture can stand independently from one another, but music is the one that makes the movie memorable.
