There has been talk of a new business proposal for Cedar Rapids, IA called
Cedar Crossing Casino. The Flood of 2008 left behind its mark in our hearts and in the land which was once full of life, stripped of its essence. The idea of a casino was proposed to fill up these empty spaces, generate jobs, and generate revenue for our city. Some support the casino proposal but there is still skeptism out there.
Casino supports speak out on the positives of building the casino in Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Crossing Casino is forecasted to create 450 jobs , no experience necessary and 125 short term constructions jobs. But what about personal jobs lost due to gambling addiction or the economic …show more content…

Now with a casino so close and no travel time needed, this will take the addicted gambler to a new high. One article reads, “The small percentage cuts from the take will hardly deal with infrastructure costs, increased crime, and court costs.” Supporters of the new casino have created a plan to build the casino close to the downtown, located on a 10-acre site in the Kingston Village neighborhood, at the intersection of
First Avenue and First Street SW, just off Interstate 380 and near the Cedar River and will overlook downtown and increase shoppers. This will make a beautiful landmark for the downtown area, but what about the increased amount of traffic in this area? The morning and evening commutes in the downtown area are already very stressful with two lanes going into downtown and two lanes leading away from it. Can you imagine tripling the traffic in this area and local patrons attempting to drive their way into downtown whether it be towards the casino or work? Yikes.

That can cause somewhat of a crowded situation even for an everyday gambler but a convenience to the surrounding communities for the ability to go to the nearest casino rather than travelling for the entertainment. People in Cedar Rapids currently drive approximately 45 minutes to
Riverside Casino and approximately 60 minutes to Meskwaki Casino. What a convenience it would be to drive just a few minutes for some fun!
