INTRODUCTION: This case involves the death of 99 year old female Pei Chin Chu. Chu was found by her son, Witness Tien Tse Chu, unresponsive in her bedroom bed at the above residence. Chu has a history of high blood pressure. There were no obvious signs of foul play. INVESTIGATION: What is the difference between On 04-10-24, at approximately 1010 hours, I was dispatched to 675 Magnolia Avenue regarding a person who fell down at the above residence. Dispatch stated Pasadena paramedics were on scene. Upon arrival, Pasadena Fire Department Rescue Engine #31 and Paramedics #31 (PFD Boykin) were on scene. I walked into the residence and contacted PFD Boykin, who stated there were no obvious signs of foul play. Chu was reportedly found lying down on her bed. PFD placed Chu on her bedroom floor and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which was unsuccessful. PFD Boykin pronounced Chu’s time of death at 1013 hours. Mr. Chu told me the following information in summary: Mr. Chu found his mother, Mrs. Chu, lying on her bed and unresponsive. Mr. Chu immediately telephoned 911 for emergency services. Mrs. Chu was reportedly taking high blood pressure medication and did not have any other medical issues. Mrs. Chu stopped taking the high blood pressure medication because she was being admitted into hospice due to her age. Mrs. Chu’s primary physician is Dr. Fang (Huntington Health/ 626-441-4231). Mr. Chu contacted Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary for Mrs. Chu’s funeral arraignment (3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier/ 562-699-0921). I telephoned the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner Coroner’s Office and advised Weimer #657833 of the incident. Weimer advised that since the family is making funeral arrangements for Chu, the Coroner’s office will not respond or assign a case
