When I imagine a Parrott Head, or Jimmy Buffett fan, I see a Hawaiian themed shirt, white sandy beaches, a margarita, and a lot of people coming together to have a good time. Jimmy Buffett has made a name for himself, otherwise known as his brand. This brand is maintained only by those who follow him and purchase his music, eat at his restaurants, purchase his products, and visit his vacation destinations and casinos. These fans, or Parrot Heads, are not only supporting his brand, they are also participating in various charities and clubs around the world. What is a Parrot Head? Parrot heads are not just fans of Jimmy Buffet’s music, they are people who are involved in the communities which they reside. Although Parrot Heads are known for their enjoyment of Jimmy Buffett music and cold alcoholic beverages, they are also known for their charity work. The national vice president of Parrot Heads in Paradise Inc., Andy Harrell, was quoted in the article Parrotheads in Paradise: A Social Club With a Charity Habit explaining what it is to be a Parrot Head: "It's a love of the music and the lifestyle. People know they're going to be with likeminded folks who are looking to have a good time and all the while leave the world a little better place than they found it" (Rettig, 2013). Are Parrot Heads a reference group? Yes; a reference group is a group of people who can influence others. Since 2002, members various Parrot Head clubs around the world have volunteered more than 3.1 million hours (Parrot Heads in Paradise Inc., 2014). These groups, who report to Parrot Heads in Paradise Inc. (PHIP), report an increase in charitable contributions and volunteer hours. Jennifer Price informs the readers about an economy in which a simple bird helped bloom it. For example the inclusion of many hotels and restaurants that utilized the bird as an eye opener. As she said “ a flamingo stands out in a desert even more strikingly than on a lawn.” The bird was used for numerous things including the affluence of a population that had just gotten out of the Great Depression. Jennifer Price also includes the birds magnificent color and how it also helped the economy.
Otherwise, it’s just keep your ears open more than your eyes, and listen and look. it all goes by too short. I’m going to my youngest daughter’s 21st birthday today and I’m thinking, “When did this happen?” You just gotta live it every day. It sounds cliche.” This is an important reason to why Jimmy should be in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame with his ability to be this idol to some people and not be a stuck up jerk that thinks he is better than everyone else( "A Conversation with Jimmy Buffett." ). These conversations show the good and the bad for Jimmy but from most people they think that he is an outgoing individual at the least. Most people think very highly of Jimmy Buffett or do not mind him at all. There is however a negative side to him that some people will and won’t like some of his views which can lead to them either hating or never wanting to listen to the guy again. One fan in particular didn’t like the views he had about politics. This fan said that he loved hearing him sing and now he can’t even stand the guy anymore. He didn’t like it because of what Jimmy said and I quote,”To me it was more about eight years of bad policy before (Obama) got there that let this happen. It was Dracula running the blood bank in terms of oil and leases,” he said. “I think that has more to do with it than how the president reacted to it.” To this fan he could not believe that he would say this. This made him furious with what he said even though he wasn’t friends with the guy he felt that it was someone there to take him to a faraway place a place where there were no troubles. He honestly felt that his friend had let him down. So, even though he knows that it shouldn’t be the case he thinks that there is a time and place to discuss such matters and that place wasn’t there. Which the whole point of the article that this person saw was to talk about a concert for people

When the word "Woodstock" is mentioned, what do you think of? Perhaps you think of the little yellow bird from the Peanuts cartoons, or maybe you think of a small town in New York. However, you also might know that Woodstock was the largest and most famous of all rock festivals.

It seems the mask got some scratches and its vivid colors have faded. Since it does not have any huge crack or abrasion, however, those changes would not disturb viewer’s appreciation. If I had not known this artwork’s title in advance, it would have taken me more time to figure out what animal this mask is representing. Even after knowing this is a bird mask, it still looks like a human or other animal figure at some points. When it is seen only the head part without its beak, the straws above and back of its head reminds me of human hair rather than bird feather, so it looks like a man with big eye. Crooked beak does not seem to be bird’s beak either. It looks more like other animal which is wilder and fiercer than bird, with horn or bumpy mouth. These features in appearance made me take more time to watch this mask. Its color also plays a role in catching people’s eyes. In the dominant and broad black color, red and white contrast with black and stand out well. Even though, colors used are limited and the mask has lost its col...
In this first chapter, the parrot speaks in "a language which nobody understood" (pp3). The parrot is not able to communicate its feelings just like Edna whose feelings are difficult to understand, incomprehensible to the members of Creole society.
Jennifer Price’s essay “The Pink Plastic Flamingo: A Natural History” draws upon a cornucopia of historical evidence, both of the United States and other world cultures, to reveal to the audience--readers in America who may harbor an affinity for pop culture history--that the seemingly innocuous American flamingo, perched calmly on the lawns of Americans both North and South, is actually the product of a rich, flamboyant cultural tradition in the United States and in other civilizations. By giving such a varied and in-depth treatment of the origins of the pink flamingo--through a long, insightful narrative and figures of speech--Price reveals her respect for the eclectic and rich heritage that the United States has acquired.

One of the most popular bands of the 1970’s was Led Zeppelin, whose original members were Jimmy Page, guitarist and songwriter; Robert Plant, lead vocalist and songwriter; John Paul Jones, bassist and keyboardist; and John Bonham drummer. (Contemporary Musicians). The band was called The New Yardbirds and commenced their first tour in Scandinavia replacing the The Yardbirds, a band Jimmy Page held rights to. Being previously successful as musicians they were on a higher plane in popularity and stood out from other starting bands. These band members also had a specific look; long hair, bell bottom pants, and open buttoned down shirt. Also, because of their fame, it is no surprise that they played to large venues; one of the largest was at Tampa,
As many people have traditions, at parties and other celebrations, Easter Island has its own. They paint their bodies, the chant, they dance and the sing songs of their forbears. Each September, flocks of sooty terns come to nest on tiny islets about a mile off the shore. Since ancient times, there have been ceremonies to celebrate the birds’ arrival and to choose the birdman. The birdman competition is where each clan selected a representative to swim to the islets where the birds nested. They are to find and egg and swim back the first one back with an unbroken egg becomes the birdman. Another competition is during Tapati Rapa Nui - Rapa Nui is where guys race with heavy loads on their backs to try to win points for a girl, out of many girls, who want to be crowned festival queen. Some islanders practice the custom of elongating their earlobes. This was done by piercing the ear and gradually enlarging the hole.
The humans, along with two younger parrots, also served as Alex’s flock, providing the social input all parrots crave. Like any flock, this one—as small as it was—had its share of drama. Alex dominated his fellow parrots, acted huffy at times around Pepperberg, tolerated the other female humans, and fell to pieces over a male assistant who dropped by for a visit. (“If you were a man,” Pepperberg said, after noting Alex’s aloofness toward me, “he’d be on your shoulder in a second, barfing cashews in your
Because this bird plucks fruit from trees, it is associated with the former practice of headhunting. The interior space of the drum is gradually hollowed out by burning the core and scraping out the charred wood. The top of the drum is notched and a piece of Monitor lizard skin is fixed to the surface by using a mixture of blood and lime. This blood is usually the blood of the drum owner and then is then secured into place by a braided ring of rattan. Beeswax is placed in the center of the skin which helps prevent unwanted vibrations that affect the sound quality. Each drum is carved with symbolism and is dependent on the cultural uniqueness of each group. They range from simple, square shapes to complex of forms of human figures, bird beaks and other motifs. The drums are to be handled with care and are usually kept on a shelf over the fireplace to protect them from moisture and pests and the years of exposure to smoke, soot, and human sweat renders them a glossy black patina. Most often the drums are handed down from father to son. Of interest, Michael Rockefeller, great grandson of John D. Rockefeller, who was once the richest man in America would strike out on his own to acquire primitive art to bring home to the new Rockefeller
