is an astonishing 8,000+ gallons. It took 300 hours to make and was made in the most influential place in his life, Margaritaville. Jimmy Buffett should be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame because his life and lifestyle, awards and nominations, and noteworthy conversations from people that know him best. Jimmy Buffett is a singer and songwriter who was born in the December 25, 1946 who was influenced by folk, country ,and the gospel. When he went out to Miami, Florida for a booking date, he soon realized once he arrived that there was a slight problem he had no job. He would eventually call up one of his old friends that would let him settle in to let him regroup. As he was taking a weekend drive he went on an overseas highway that would land him in a town that will become his biggest influences in his music career. The town he moved to was Key West in the 1970s which is where he will make his trademark beachcombing persona(“Jimmy Buffett”). As he would go on to release Sport Coat and Pink Crustacean that would help establish a reputation for him to help elevate his next album, Living and Dying in ¾ time, which would go on to gain good reviews, and contain a single “Come Monday”. When in 1974 Jimmy Buffett would go on to call a former Coral Reefer that it was now time to start the Coral Reefer Band. From 1974 to 1982 they would go on to a momentous development with the first three albums being mostly studio musicians in Nashville. Then came in Changes in Latitudes album was where the band was good enough and became enough of a unit that they would head down to Miami and start a band album("Jimmy Buffett | About." ). This is where his hits Margaritaville would come from which so happens to be the place that was his most influential place (Key West). With all of these influential songs and help from his fans and other artists alike helped him be selected for some of these amazing achievements. Jimmy Buffett is widely known for his laid back beach bum style which helped him make terrific albums that would go on to win numerous nominations and awards. These nominations are from many different aspects to the music industry. Jimmy’s nominations range from “Best New Work/Costume Design plus Best Lighting Design to Vocal Event of the Year and an ASCAP(American Society of Composers, Authors and Publisher) Song of the Year”. With many new albums and songs plus special features to songs with some of the famous artist of the time have helped Jimmy become one of the top performers for the past eras. One of Jimmy’s songs that gave him many awards was “It’s Five O’clock Somewhere where he would receive a CMA award for vocal event of the year and an ACM for single of the year the following year with that same song and another vocal event of the year for the ACM. Later, the same year that he won the ACM he will go on to get a ASCAP Song of the year with that exact same song which helped him win or be nominated with all these awards. One of his earliest awards came at the time of October 27, 1998 with the Carbonell Awards for Best New Work, Best Costume Design, and Best Lighting Design with his musical “Don’t Stop the Carnival”. Which draws us to his most recent nominations which was a CMT in the wide open country video of the year with “Bama Breeze”. Which with all these awards and history should very well influence whether or not Jimmy should be in the Hall of Fame. With fame comes many views on how Jimmy performs and what people think about him with these conversations we get a glimpse in the life of The Jimmy Buffett. When you hear about Jimmy it seems like that he has had a pretty hard life but it has seemed to get way better. This has been shown by the struggles he has gotten through. People have said many positive things about Jimmy and how it is very easy to work with him how he made it easy for people to get along with him. One example is one of his former band mates said,”It feels like it was recorded in some very relaxed, comfortable environs.” He goes to say,”Maybe 30 years ago, I took a tape recorder to the shore there at St. Bart's and rented a room at Eden Rock — I think I was working on “Off To See The Lizard” then. But there was no place to record remotely except Montserrat. Now there’s a state-of-the-art studio at that same hotel where I brought the tape recorder 25 or 30 years ago. We did all the vocals in that studio in St. Barts.”( "A Conversation with Jimmy Buffett." ). He also helps people with what he thinks is the key to life and will help and try to tell them in the best way possible like this question he was given by an interviewer. It says, “When people stop you, ask for advice, for Jimmy Buffett’s keys for living, is there a standard answer you give them?” “In music it’s two things: Never forget to duck, and never forget it could go to hell at any minute.
Otherwise, it’s just keep your ears open more than your eyes, and listen and look. it all goes by too short. I’m going to my youngest daughter’s 21st birthday today and I’m thinking, “When did this happen?” You just gotta live it every day. It sounds cliche.” This is an important reason to why Jimmy should be in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame with his ability to be this idol to some people and not be a stuck up jerk that thinks he is better than everyone else( "A Conversation with Jimmy Buffett." ). These conversations show the good and the bad for Jimmy but from most people they think that he is an outgoing individual at the least. Most people think very highly of Jimmy Buffett or do not mind him at all. There is however a negative side to him that some people will and won’t like some of his views which can lead to them either hating or never wanting to listen to the guy again. One fan in particular didn’t like the views he had about politics. This fan said that he loved hearing him sing and now he can’t even stand the guy anymore. He didn’t like it because of what Jimmy said and I quote,”To me it was more about eight years of bad policy before (Obama) got there that let this happen. It was Dracula running the blood bank in terms of oil and leases,” he said. “I think that has more to do with it than how the president reacted to it.” To this fan he could not believe that he would say this. This made him furious with what he said even though he wasn’t friends with the guy he felt that it was someone there to take him to a faraway place a place where there were no troubles. He honestly felt that his friend had let him down. So, even though he knows that it shouldn’t be the case he thinks that there is a time and place to discuss such matters and that place wasn’t there. Which the whole point of the article that this person saw was to talk about a concert for people
who aren’t in the greatest of situations. However he has only showed he doesn’t believe in his ideas on different subjects that mean to him and others like him but there is people that have the opposite viewpoints of the person. One thing Jimmy does that not many artist do is he doesn’t look like he is a millionaire and doesn’t really act or seem like it. In other words he also has very brilliant thoughts about him and his way of life. It shows with one of his friends says,”Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night thinking about the joy you’ve given millions of people with your songs? JB: I get it mainly from the stage – it’s an indescribable feeling. You asked about drugs, but the greatest narcotic is applause. There’s not a better rush for me and that’s where I get it. It’s great to have a job like that, to make a little difference. The world’s a terrible place. It was never meant to be hospitable, so if I can bring a little humor and little escapism, I think that’s great.” This shows that he he is a great person and will pretty much do anything for fans to make their day better. These are the biggest point to why Jimmy Buffett should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame with his ability to act humble even though he has a lot and how he is with people around him and also the “Parrotheads” that he is lucky enough to have as fans. These point of his life and lifestyle, awards and nominations, and noteworthy conversations from people that know him best.
I was talking with my aunt about current events, to the extent a thirteen year old can discuss such a thing, and she asked me with a slightly disarming fervor if I was a Kanye West fan. “No” I remarked innocently. “I mean I liked that one song he was on, but I would hardly call myself a fan” I thought. “He’s prejudiced ya know” warned my aunt I found out later that week that the man had apparently made a fool out of himself publicly, jumping on stage and drunkenly trying to disarm Taylor Swift of her newly received VMA Award, declaring “Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!” At this point the only information I had received about Kanye was that he had made a pretty enjoyable contribution to a song I liked a year ago, and he apparently had acted very rude at some award show.

The power of television is strong and inevitable. Television has the ability to draw people in and view the world through a perspective one would think unimaginable. After the second world war ended in 1945, electronic sales boomed and more families started to gather around the tv at night to view widely famous television shows. Specifically, The Ed Sullivan Show was known for its plethora of celebrities and up and coming entertainers. The shows popularity was able to take a small town artist and make he or she into an enormous success, specifically, Elvis Presley who was, “something new under the Sun” (Altschuler 30). Teenagers, however, viewed the television as an escape and a look into the unknown and intriguing world of African American culture. Through the extreme recognition of The Ed Sullivan Show, the power of mass media and the fascination with African American culture, Elvis Presley’s success skyrocketed and made him one of the most famous performers of all time whose fame became an inspiration for many.
Jerry Garcia’s life was filled with wonderful things, many of which he never expected in the first place. After an almost fatal heroin overdose in 1986, “ Garcia philosophically stated, ‘ I’m 45 years old, I’m ready for anything, I didn’t even plan on living this long so all this shit is just add-on stuff.’ ” (“Garcia”) This attitude shows why Garcia did all of the things he did and even how some of them came about. Many times, people have very different ideas about what makes an icon. Our icons may be singers, dancers, athletes, actors or politicians. We may not even know what the criteria would be for an icon, but we know one when we see it. One of the greatest American icons in history is the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. To say that Woodstock isn’t an icon would be like saying that the music wasn’t a dynamic character in the movie “Star Wars” or “The Phantom of the Opera”. An Icon must encompass a distinct ideology, and nothing ushered in our generation’s journey to the end of the innocence like Woodstock.

Mention the name Elvis Presley and many things come to mind. Most people automatically think of music and the impact he had on the industry. Others think of his upbringing in the South and the years he spent singing Gospel tunes. Wild images of Graceland and Cadillacs are iconic when it comes to discussing Elvis. Through the years, his physical appearance changed drastically. From young and in excellent shape to older, larger, and showing the signs of poor lifestyle choices. Elvis singlehandedly changed the face of American music. He influenced an entire generation to break from long-held traditions. However, for all the incredible talent and charisma the man possessed, he could not break free from the addictions that plagued him in his later years. Moreover, sadly, many remember that as his last legacy.
