Introduction: In my assignment I will be focusing on Pat McDonagh. Pat who is from Kilimordaly in County Galway is one of Ireland’s most successful entrepreneurs. The main reason I have picked him for my assignment is because I admire all the employment he has pumped into Irelands recovering economy and also our local economy as he would be considered a local man where I come from and live. I believe he is the perfect example of what an entrepreneur should be as he is not afraid to get involved, is never satisfied and on top of this is very passionate about what he does. Although it is easier said than done it is possible. Pat possesses many characteristics/traits which enable him to be successful year in year out such as a strong sense of confidence in his beliefs. He is very focused and does not dilly dally with issues at hand, this is what seperates him from failed entrepreneurs. An entrepreneur should always be on the lookout for new innovations and ideas in order to emerge as a winner and Pat dos this as he started by owning a few family restaurants (Supermacs) to owning hotels, Plazas, pubs etc. This also shows Pat is never satisfied which is a key trait to possess in order to be successful. Competition should never scare an entrepreneur and Pat clearly follows this rule. Competition is what a successful entrepreneur thrives on as Pat has many competitors in the fast food business such as McDonalds, Eddie Rockets, KFC, etc. Monopoly is never a good thing. This is because in monopoly there is no real sense that you have to adopt change, yet change is always a good thing. Passion for the business is also what seems to drive Pat to success.
