In my efforts to choose a good manager I decided to pick an E-shop manager Shawn Bell. He is lead manager over a warehouse just south of Twin Falls. His primary responsibilities are to organize incoming shipments from worldwide suppliers. They market the majority of their sales online through amazon.
I chose to interview Shawn Bell about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. I gave him a quick definition and explanation of the hierarchy of needs, which is basically to organize needs human desire in an organized pyramid format communicating the typical order these are normally obtained. The lower needs are those that are obtained from the environment, such as physiological and safety. Higher needs are social, esteem and self-actualization, which are obtained internally by an individual. Motivation can be addressed to both of these areas. He stated that he believes each employee is a unique combination and mixture of both. Almost like they go through mood swings at work. It can be influenced by basically anything that can be thought of. Family, friends, death, life, and politics. From his experience employees usually start of positive and he himself thinks of them as positive. Yes no one really likes to work and few have the ability to do what they love every day. He stated that not all of us can be paid to be outdoor extremists. Someone has got to do the hard jobs it can’t be all sugar plums and roses. As the employee progresses things usually workout or they don’t. Work is unpredictable it can be fun and it can be tough it is not all ways one particular feeling constantly. In his own words “people get jobs to pay for the basics of life and a few fun things to make it interesting”.
