had the pleasure to personally interview Dr. Ebenezer Blavo; a former lecturer at the University of Ghana, and a United Nations representative of social work. Significantly, his main vision is service for humanity. He was selected to be leader, and he acquired leadership skills by taking courses in leadership at the university. Dr. Blavo is both a transformational leader and servant leader who is concerned about the wellbeing of others, and demonstrates effective listening skills, empathy and healing (Savage-Austin & Honeycutt, 2011).
Of great importance, Dr. Blavo, encompasses the PEO model, by taking care of the refugees, scanning the environment, assessing the refugees needs and helping them assimilate into a foreign community. He also helps

Moreover, when conducting a team meeting, its important to make it enjoyable in order to fully engage team members. For instance, if they become bored, to introduce some singing and dancing to break the monotony of the meeting for a short time before reconvening to the main program. I was inspired to interview Dr. Blavo who thinks outside his sociologist background ‘box’ and utilizes a holistic, client centered approach to meet the refugees’ need by improving their quality of life and increasing participation in occupational performance.
According to E.Q.Blavo (personal communication, May 26, 2016) another important factor is social protection, which has to do with people’s satisfaction in life, work, and education. There are people existing among us with a special trait or characteristic that makes them stand out above the masses. They are “heroes” in a sense, who perform great acts of sacrifice and promote hope when it seems that the last drop of faith has evaporated from one’s soul. These individuals remind us of saints who walked before us, healing and caring for the sick and destitute when no other man dared. Author, Tracy Kidder (2004), brings to the forefront the noble deeds of a modern day saint, Paul Farmer, through his writing in Mountains Beyond Mountains. He illustrates how a single man can lead nations toward healing, even in the midst of war, turmoil, limited resources, or “mountains” of bureaucratic red tape. Although the book tells a story about Farmer’s life, academic achievements, and global contributions toward curing infectious diseases, the main theme, as illustrated by the book title, is that no matter what a person does, there is always more to be done. Beyond the hills and valleys of Farmer’s journey, Kidder (2004) provides scenes of leadership styles along the way. Is a leader born or is leadership learned? A review of Paul Farmer’s mission, through the eyes of the author, may provide insight to support both philosophies.

With a bold, yet pragmatic vision, Orbinski is unconcerned with seemingly intractable problems of finding drugs for the poorest AIDS victims. The book illustrates his desire to get the job done without bravado and grand statements. Although the book was painful to read, it takes he reader to the extreme of human suffering. Nevertheless, it also inspires with its reflections of humanitarianism and the ingenuity brought to its implementation. It is heartening to know James Orbinski can inspire students in both the arts and sciences as they set out on their careers. Since after all he’s seen, Orbinski remain optimistic, not cynical, and committed to action. Do give this book to any students in your life, after you have read it yourself.

The Servant Leader discusses the importance of leaders who adopt a service oriented attitude in which they care for the needs of others before their own. A servant leader need not be an actual servant or have ever been a servant to become a servant leader. Rather, a servant leader is born with or adopts an “others first” disposition. Climbing through the ranks may help to create a servant leader, though it is not necessary. When leaders choose to see that the needs of their followers or their organizations are the highest priority they become servants.

The desired outcome would be to make sure that the refugees are able to become productive members of society. The in order to evaluate the progress of those being counseled, we would put the refugees through a screening in order to test the mental health of the refugees with guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is important that the screening show progress so that we do not lose our funding. If there is no progress we will have to implement new activities and do more research on how to effectively reduce mental health issues for refugees.
Introduction Through identification and ongoing assessment of her leadership style and ability, this leader is able to develop and understand her own strengths and limitations in order to grow and develop into a more effective leader. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of servant leadership, contingency, and path-goal styles of leadership to gain an understanding of current leadership models, identify this author’s style of leadership, and explore why leadership is important to organizations, society, and this author. A Personal Model of Leadership Servant leadership was a term that was first used by Keifner Greenleaf (1970) in his first essay, The Servant as Leader (as cited by Crippen, C., 2005). Greenleaf based his essay on his belief that a servant leader is a servant first, and explained that it would begin with the natural urge to serve and then the leader would make a conscious choice to become a leader, in doing so he makes the choice to ensure that others needs are met first (2005 ). As a servant leader develops he should always keep aware of those who he serves and strive to ensure that they are becoming healthier, wiser, freer, have an increase in autonomy, and become more like servants themselves (2005).
When Novogratz decides to return to Rwanda to try understand what had happen, it makes me realize that leadership is about having vision and the moral imagination to put oneself in another’s shoes. By going to those houses and being able to understand the people whom I work with, helping them progress in a new society is the only way to prevent certain struggles in life. When Novogratz writes, “In the end, goodness triumphs over the bad. It is our challenge to do well and to serve others without waiting for the good to be returned. I’m convinced that those people who cultivate universal love will have good fortune on earth. In serving others, I found light in a place of utmost darkness.” (175) I start to understand the power of service work, to living a life of purpose, and to keeping the flame of hope alive. For me as a refugee who has been in darkness and able to overcome it with the help of community workers, now I can bring light in my service to help and motivate these people to understand that whenever there is a darkness, there is always a light and I think I can be the light that could help them overcome things that did when I was first arrived into this

Finally, relationships in the work place and in our personal lives are one of the most important aspects that define us as individuals. Everyone knows how much more can be accomplished in a situation where there is a good working relationship verses the opposite. In a leadership role it is important to have a good understanding of each individual team member. This understanding can include what motivates, what is important, and how the leader can tap into these resources. As each of us progress in our leadership roles, it is important to remember, it’s not all about me. I believe once we accept any type of leadership role, we accept the responsibility to serve others. If we consider it only for personal gain, we will probably not be remembered as a good leader.
One of the most important components of leadership is the leader. A leader is responsible for his or her followers and the overall goal of the group or organization. Leaders are the people held accountable or everything that happens, good or bad. On the other hand, the second major component of leadership is the followers. Without followers, a leader would be worthless. Followers make up the backbone of a leader because they are the masses that get goals accomplished. A leader is just one person, but the number of followers is countless. In order to be an effective follower, there are a countless number of characteristics that allow a follower to be the best they can be. Five of these characteristics include a positive attitude, communication skills, being part of the process, being open to new ideas, and patience.
Is based on perception and how people perceive a leader and how well the person is able to communicate and inspire others will greatly affect how successful they can become. For example, a principal in a school has to have a certain amount of charisma, being able to communicate to the staff, parents, and student to about the vision of school. Much like a politician, the principal has to exude confidence in their vision but also must open up to others so that can align themselves with their followers.
