Buddy’s, a sub outlet, serves classic comfort food with a healthy twist to the people of Charlotte, North Carolina. Buddy’s menu embraces a variety of food from signature subs, hot dogs, sliders, soups and salads. Buddy’s unconventional cuisine developed as a result of a grow-ing diverse population in Charlotte, North Carolina. Buddy’s has chosen the Charlotte area as its primary location because it consists of both families and young professionals relocating to this city due to the growing job market, low cost of living and the ever changing comforts of southern climate. Buddy’s is one of the fastest growing franchises in Charlotte, North Carolina after only being in existence since 2015. Buddy’s has three unique locations strategically placed in the fastest growing communities in the Charlotte area: NODA, “the artsy district, University City, “the college town,” and South end, “the young professionals’ center”. Plaza Midwood is another potential location that is in the works for 2017. Buddy’s restaurant continues to expand with the city through its competitive advantage of digitalization and delivery, which will be further discussed in this case study. Stephen Boos has worked in the food service industry for over 30 years. He started as a bus person and subsequently trained as a chef’s apprentice. Steve’s mother believed that a college education was something that everyone should receive. She felt that a college degree was a good investment in Steve’s future. In 1976 at his mother’s insistence, Boos moved to Northeastern Ohio to attend Kent State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. The $120 billion industry includes over 200,000 restaurants with 50% of those specializing in hamburger entrees. (hoovers.com 2008) The major competitors in the industry include McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, and KFC – Chick-fil-A’s major competitor in chicken sales. Chick-fil-A’s unique position in the market, specializing in chicken-based entrées, has lead to a competitive advantage which the company has been able to capitalize on. Recently, many competitors have added chicken entrees in order to compete in the market segment. Through marketing strategies and company initiatives, Chick-fil-A has tried to stay distant from competitors, offering a fresh alternative to the ordinary fast food restaurant.
Zoë’s Kitchen is a successful restaurant in a new segment of a matured restaurant market. This company creates an at home atmosphere for the consumer to give the perception of an at home meal. There are a lot of competitors within the market and for just this company alone. Though, Zoë’s is differentiated enough as a whole to not actually have a true competition. There are upcoming threats in the fast-casual market from fast-food chains entering the market through mergers and adding healthier foods to the menus. The purpose of this analysis is to inform and forge a conclusion of what this company should do about its future.

The end goal of this proposal is to come up with a food truck that will be located in Harrisonburg. A demographic will be targeted and marketed to. The food truck will not be tied down to one spot but will, move around the Harrisonburg area, based on the ever evolving market. The food truck will come up with a specialized menu with a limited variety, but focus on quality. Many people do not like the monotony of everyday food choices, and often look for new places. The food truck will try innovative choices that break away from the monotony of everyday choices. It will be the goal to offer a niche food choices that are unique and can be made quickly and affordable. Not only will the niche food be offered but along with drinks and sides that complement the main food offered.
Burger King delivers value to their customers through their products, prices, and place and promotion strategies - (“BK doesn’t just promise value, they actually deliver value”). Burger king has been in existence for 60 years and is growing rapidly in many other countries. Burger King delivers quality, great tasting food which satisfies ones need or wants and captures the value of customers even before the first purchase is made. Burger King has products very unique from other competitors such as KFC and McDonalds. The difference is that Burger King does not limit their customers in terms of what they eat. For example, when I spoke to a customer also big fan of Burger King, he mentioned that the sauces are left public for the customer to decide on which sauce to have rather than giving the customer one kind of sauce such as McDonalds and KFC. The cold beverage is also self-help service in which customers can help themselves to a bottomless drink. This way the customer feels free to choose what satisfies the need or want.
