My case study patient is 80 is years old Asian Indian male who weighs 195 lbs. and height of 61 inches. Patient has type II diabetes for the last 20 years, and has slowly developed glaucoma. Patient is fond of spicy and fried food which has initiated some health issues. Due to daily heartburn from spicy food, the mucus lining of esophagus has been exposed to stomach acids which has led to Gastroesophageal reflux disease. The high fat and fried has caused the patient to have high blood lipids. The unhealthy life style of patient has steered him in the direction of hypertension due to lack of physical activity. For type II Diabetes, patient takes metformin to inhibit the production of glucose in liver and to increase the sensitivity to insulin …show more content…

It works by dilating eye blood vessels which allows to drain more aqueous humor. The pressure of eye lowers down once fluid drains out. Daily in the evening, patient adds 1 drop of a 0.01% solution in the both eyes. Most common side effect of latanoprost are itching in the eyes, eye redness, a permanent changes in the iris color, thickening and lengthening of the eyelashes, and darkening of the skin on the eyelids. Adverse effects take place rarely if drops are absorbed systemically. It includes muscle weakness, hypotension, elevated liver enzyme, and an increase in body hair. Nurse teaching to patient is to use eye drops exactly as prescribed. Do not operate any heavy machinery while vision is blurred. There can be change in color of eye or eyelid overtime. Patient takes captopril orally 12.5-50 mg 2-3 times daily. It lowers blood pressure by vasodilating blood vessels, and decreasing excessive water and salt in tissue. Side effects of captopril are hypotension, protein in urine, taste disturbances, hyperkalemia, headache, dry cough. Adverse effects are fever, chills, swelling in the face, hands, or feet, trouble swallowing, and chest pain. More serious adverse effects are allergic reaction and kidney failure. Patient teaching includes to take medication at the same time every day, and take it 1 hour before eating. Patient should report side effect to the doctor
