College restructure and new deans announced
The Office of the Provost recently announced several academic personnel and structural changes.
With the retirement of Ron Jewett, Ph.D., Desiree Libengood, M.A., A.B.D., has been named the next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Libengood was selected via a vigorous internal search process that engaged faculty, staff, and students. “We had three stellar candidates,” noted Provost Don Tucker, Ed.D., and the decision was a difficult one. We are pleased that Desiree Libengood has accepted the invitation to serve in this capacity.”
In the wake of significant growth of the School of Business, and anticipation of future growth in the sciences, a decision was made to separate business and computer sciences programs from arts and sciences, and to create the College of Business and Technology. William (Bill) Tibbetts, MBA, has accepted the invitation to serve as dean for this new college.

We only got “it was an emergency.”
On August 23, 1980 in Conroe, Texas, is 40 miles north of Houston, a 16-year-old girl, Cheryl Fergeson, disappeared while searching for a women’s restroom at Conroe High School (Gores, 1991). Later that day while searching for the girl two janitors, Clarence Brandley who is black, and Henry Peace who is white, found the girl’s body hidden under some scenery flats in the loft above the auditorium stage. Cheryl has been raped and strangled to death. Clarence and Henry were interrogated and made to sign statements. The two janitors were then taken to the hospital and made to give sperm, blood, and hair samples from their head

In 1993, the Harold C. Case Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement was awarded to fourteen students in the Boston University junior class. I was one of two students in the College of Communication and one of two students in the School of Management to receive the award. I view this award as recognition of the difficult journey I undertook to become the first person in the history of Boston University to combine a broadcast journalism degree with a business degree. Although the university allowed students to pursue dual degrees, it was highly discouraged for someone to attempt to dual major in two professional schools. Some people believed that I was stubborn when I would not accept this. By carefully planning my courses from the start to satisfy the requirements of both degrees and by enlisting the support of key advisors, I succeeded in four years.
After attending Admitted Students Day in April, I knew Boston University, and more specifically Questrom, was the place for me. Several friendly, caring, and intelligent Dean’s Hosts came up to me and offered me tours, advice, or asked if I had any questions. The Dean’s Hosts made me feel extremely comfortable and gave me a better perspective on what Questrom is all about. Ever since that day, I knew that I wanted to be a Dean’s Host because the Dean’s Hosts helped me realize that this is where I belong, and I want to do the same for others. When I started college in September, I immediately asked about how to become a Dean’s Host because I want to be able to introduce others to everything Questrom has to offer, like the Dean’s Hosts did for me. Being a Dean’s Host is a great networking opportunity as Dean’s Hosts get to meet past alumni as well as distinguished guest speakers.
The new president of Weston University, Dr. Diana Ball, took over in late 1995, succeeding Dr. Harold Powers. Dr. Powers led the prestigious private university for fifteen years from a human resource frame to tailor the organization to individuals (Bolman & Deal, 2013, p. 16). Moreover, during Dr. Power's tenure, the reputation of once-leading private university in the Midwest diminished. Dr. Power's reputation as a scholar gained him the presidency; however, his leadership abilities fell short in dealing with the faculty. Weston's board outlined the skills needed, which included both academic standing and business acumen, for their new president to restore Weston University's reputation and lead the college toward excellence. Dr. Ball became the first woman president and impressed the board in her first few months on the job.
Discrimination in the workplace continues to be topics and issues of discussion, despite efforts to minimize or eliminate its ugly head. Discrimination is defined as the unfair or prejudicial treatment of people based on race, gender, disability or age (Fieser, 2015). Furthermore, some companies has used other forms in conjunction with discrimination like sexual harassment to mask unjust treatment in the workplace. Lilly Ledbetter was an employee at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Inc. for over 19 years. During this period, she consistently received low rankings in her annual performance-and-salary reviews. As a result, Lilly received significantly lower raises than her male counterparts, which led to her filing a civil lawsuit

When Drew Gilpin Faust was selected as the 28th president of Harvard University in February 2007, a flurry of news and opinion articles marked a new era in higher education administration. She was described as “friendly, collaborative, a consensus builder, and a good administrator,” noting a change not just in institutional direction for Harvard, but in leadership style, too (Bornstein 2007, p. 21).

We fully understand and accept his personal judgement. However, in his response he also questioned the credibility of the Tenure and Promotion Committee. Collectively we have more than 105 years of experience in higher education. All three of the members of the committee have served as Chair of the Department of Biology. Dr. Bowman is recognized by the Department of Education and NASA for his experience in identifying excellence in teaching. Dr. Duncan has been our Teach of the Year in our Department. He also is recognized as a health educator expert. He teaches as an adjunct at UVa. I am the director of the Intelligence Community Center and a DHS fellow. I have reviewed for the Department of Education, National Science Foundation and the EPA. We take the concept of tenure as an important step. We believe that Dr. Regina Oyesanya is an excellent teacher and a tremendous access to our department. She has participated in first view and all the other programs that have been set forth by the Dean and the Department. She teaches in the nursing program and has helped the nursing student in their retention and understanding of microbiological
