Should you ever have an opportunity to visit South Florida, there is one organization that will stick out. It is a local organization called Baptist Health South Florida. There are very few places around here that you won’t immediately see their company logo of a white pineapple on a green background. The pineapple has had a long-standing meaning of hospitality since the renaissance period so the logo on a hospital is quite fitting. You will see it on billboards, buildings, or even on someone’s clothing. They have 7 hospitals, over 40 doctors’ offices and their outpatient facilities exceed 50 locations. Aside from being one of the largest employers in state, the US government lists them as one of the best hospital systems in the country …show more content…

n.d.). The Board of Trustees set up an Audit and Compliance Committee to monitor and ensure that the organization is living to the standards that include all the best practices that not only prevent unethical behavior but will detect and take action whenever encountered. Their Code of Ethics includes the names and numbers of individuals that their employees can talk to but if they aren’t comfortable coming forward directly to one of these named people they can also report unethical activity anonymously through a toll-free number they have established. They include a strict conflict of interest policy for anyone associated with this organization including the Board of Trustees. The most interesting of their endeavor to prove that they are ethical includes the fact that the Audit and Compliance Department only answers to the Audit and Compliance Committee and is completely independent of management (Baptist Health South Florida, n.d.). The community is serves has also benefitted greatly.
First it helps the local economy by being one of the top employers in South Florida and is nationally recognized as being one of the best places to work. This recognition has been made by Fortune Magazine and Modern Healthcare Magazine. Additionally, Baptist is well known for its charitable contributions. Last year alone the amount in charity exceeded 300 million dollars. This was 5 times the value of their tax exemption for being a not-for-profit organization and turned out to be 4.3% of their total patient revenue (Baptist Health South Florida, n.d.). Baptist Health South Florida truly exemplifies one of true moral and ethical behaviors. So much so, that this is the 7th year that it has been named among the world’s most ethical companies by the Ethisphere Institute. The Ethisphere Institutes primary purpose is to honor organizations that promote ethical business standards, provide an environment where managers and employees can make good choices, and are leaders in developing and executing tomorrow’s best practices right now (Ethisphere, n.d.). Moreover, it shows that the hospital has a higher ability to meet its cash obligation because it has more security compared to other hospitals. Funding allows hospitals to control funds and limit investments. Not-for-profit organizations help provide more services and margin of safety. Therefore, creditors look for a margin of safety so that the community that financed a small portion of total financing can be returned to the owners by leveraging. Capitalization ratio measures the funds that were borrowed and the assets that have been used. The coverage ratio measures the number that time they fixed financial charges. ...and his vision in successfully transforming the medical center to a tertiary care facility. However, in 2008 under Ron Henderson, the medical center expenses began to skyrocket and revenues failed to keep up. Also, a hospital census indicated that, on average, Medicare patients consisted of 58% and Medicaid patients consisted of 18% which caused the medical center to suffer from reductions in reimbursements. Although noted by solid evidence that utilization was experiencing a steep decline, Mr. Henderson added 127 new positions to the medical center. In 2009, Mr. Henderson was fired after the board of trustees realized that this financial bind of an $8.6 million deficit was caused by Mr. Henderson. In order for the new CEO, Richard Reynolds, to succeed at his new job title, he must create a benchmarking process adopting certain goals to remain a worthy competitor.

It is obvious that there is a large gap between where Coastal Medical Center is and where they need and want to be. When comparing CMC’s competitors, Johnson Medical Center and Lutheran Medical Center, CMC needs to provide more efficient, high quality care and focus on more profitable priorities instead of funding multiple unsuccessful projects such as the fifty-three unfinished developments.
The John C. Lincoln community that was used for this essay is comparatively poorer than the average, with large immigrant populations and face transportation issues that limit the ability of patient to receive both outpatient and emergency care (Honor Health, 2015). The mission statement of Honor Health is broad and perhaps uninspiring to key stakeholders, as is the organizations vision statement. Honor Health could benefit by expanding their mission and vision statements, thus increasing their value in directing and guiding their future strategic plans and goals. Randall’s (2015) assertion that a great organization is only achievable by having specific, measurable and achievable goals that are linked to the organizations vision and mission is correct; while the flexibility of Honor Health’s statements is interesting, the statements could be improved by being more descriptive and personal to the organization reason for existence and

The University of California – San Francisco Medical Center is one the best hospitals in the country. In 2010 the hospital was the seventh best hospital out of 100’s of others. How does a hospital reach this level of success? A hospital such as UCSF they have to be willing and able to find better and new ways to approach the care for their patients. Superb patient care is only one of the reasons why UCSF is one of the best. The innovative research and the extensive education in the Science of Health at their medical school are more reasons. UCSF Medical Center has been known to specialize in many of areas of medicine but there are areas they are most popular for. Nurses are faced with harsh realities everyday; but what happens when young lives are at stake and decisions are being handled by the parents. This paper will explore the ethical dilemmas that come with Jehovah’s Witnesses and pediatric patients. “Jehovah’s Witnesses are a Christian denomination with many beliefs that stand out from mainstream Christianity. They are known for their potent evangelism and their unique translation of the Bible called the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures” (Beliefnet, 2014). Some of the beliefs that Jehovah’s witnesses have involve many contemporary issues; they stand strongly against abortion, homosexuality, divorce and blood transfusions.
Integrity is one of the most essential principles in business practice. Without integrity, the reputation of a business can suffer unrepairable damages in which consumerism becomes nonexistent. Integrity must be built into the organizational infrastructure in health care to build a foundation of ethical integrity and adopt a culture that prioritizes this value (Mantel, 2015). I chose this business principle because I strongly believe that integrity is the heart and soul of a business’s character. Character reveals the core of business standards and is vital to sustain trust. Integrity is incorporated at my facility under the value system, to enable communities to rely on our health care organization. Integrity is chief in health care because it encompasses the foundation of veracity and honesty. Consumers such as patients, heavily rely on integrity of health care organizations to provide the best care. Integrity is important to me because it represents a network of trust and honor. As a health care professional, ethically and morally sound decisions have to be made with

In the American health care system, there are goals set for each individual and for the organization as a whole to be successful. The types of goals set can differ from short and long-term goals. Short-term goals is something that can be achieved in less than a year and long-term goals is anywhere from two to five years or something that will make a career last a long time (Merriam-Webster, 2014). Having goals set and using the virtue ethics theory can help with the decision-making proce...
This study is related to a case conducted at Faith Community Hospital to assess the problems due to issues with their mission statement and how it is being interpreted. According to the CEO of Faith Community Hospital, very few of the members and partners seem to be following the mission statement.
