Who wouldn’t think Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year? Santa comes to give presents to good people who have done good things each Christmas. People anticipate to see what presents they will get for Christmas each year. Families get together for the holiday and play games, talk, and celebrate what Christmas is all about. Christmas is all about Christ, and people learn about Him by listening to the radio, which may play Christmas carols, such as Carol of the Bells.
The history of Carol of the Bells is interesting and cool. The composer of Carol of the Bells was Mykola Leontovych. He was born December 13, 1877 and died January 22-23, 1921. Mykola mastered singing when he was only 10 years old, and taught music and voice after

moving to Tulchyn, Podillya. However, another composer, named Peter Wilhousky, changed the song. In 1936, he copyrighted new lyrics and published it, although it was published two decades earlier in Soviet Ukraine. He also renamed the song to what it is today, Carol of the Bells. Originally, the Carol of the Bells was called Shchedryk and it was written in 1916. It was first composed in 1904. The song has a 4-note melody that sounds haunting. Today, it’s fast and is sometimes combined with another song. Carol of the Bells has a history that is cool and interesting. Each stanza of Carol of the Bells has an important meaning. Stanzas 1-5 tell about bell sounds and joyful people caroling on Christmas. Stanzas 6-10 tell that the bells’ story is for everyone everywhere and bell sounds. The bells tell the meek and the bold, or everyone, to forget all their troubles and worries and praise God. The bells also tell a story about Christ’s birth. My favorite parts of the song are, “Hark how the bells, sweet silver bells all seem to say throw cares away”, and, “Merry, Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas”(x2). I like those two parts because they are fast and it repeats itself. Every part of the song has an important meaning. Carol of the Bells proclaims the good news of Christ through its words.
It says that in stanzas 2-3, 6, and 9. Stanza 2 says,”Hark how the bells, sweet silver bells all seem to say:, throw cares away”. This means to listen to the bells and put aside all our worries because Jesus was born to take away all our sins. Stanza 3 says,”Christmas is here bringing good cheer to young and old, meek and the bold”. This means that Christmas brings happiness for everyone. Also, it reminds me of John 3:16 by it saying,”For God so loved the world….that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Stanza 6 says,”Oh, how they pound, raising the sound O'er hill and dale, telling their tale“. This means that the bells are telling their story to everyone everywhere, which reminds me of Matthew 28:19-20, which says,”Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” . Stanza 9 says,”On, on they send, on without end Their joyful tone to every home”. This means that the joy and story of the bells are unending for everyone everywhere, which reminds me of eternity and how Christians will be with Jesus forever. The words of Carol of the Bells are important because it proclaims the birth of Jesus.
The history of Carol of the Bells tells people about the birth of a song that wasn’t originally a Christmas Carol. The overall message of the song is about the birth of our Savior and Lord. Everyone can learn about Him through songs, family, and presents. People can get together and talk
about presents, songs, family, and other things. But, Christians should know and spread what Christmas is really about.

Christmas was originally supposed to be a celebration of the birthday of Jesus Christ. Modern historians suggest that Christ was actually born sometime in April, but that is hardly the point; the point is that a day on which to celebrate his birth and life was needed, and so one was chosen. During the season surrounding this holiday -- especially since it coincided with that of other, similar holidays -- it was thought right to honor Jesus by acting as he did, i.e., in a kind, generous, and forgiving manner. Out of this sprung the custom of giving gifts to loved ones on this holiday.

In the fictional play, A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, by Israel Horovitz, Scrooge’s first impression is not very good. He refuses to donate to the poor, he dismisses family who want a relationship, and he is miserable and tries to make others the same way. When two men come to see Scrooge, they were asking for donations for the poor. Scrooge, being one of the wealthiest people in the community, is very dismissive, wrongfully so, and asks the two men to leave empty handed. When Scrooge asks if there are workhouses for the poor to go to, the men explain that most people would rather die than to go there. In response Scrooge states, “If they would rather die, than they had better do it and decrease the surplus in population.” (649) When
A Christmas Carol is a written in December 1845 by Charles Dickens. This novel was based on the industrial revolution. Dickens shows Scrooge’s transformation going through both love and grief. The Ghost of Christmas past reminded Scrooge of a sense of festivity by showing him his old headmaster Fezziwig; the love in Bob Cratchit’s family made Scrooge analyze his life and it gave him grief; Scrooge had to experience grief, being a sullen old man, just experiencing love wouldn’t be as effective. He also had to experience love to revive his human feeling, his sense of care and empathy. Likewise, Scrooge had to experience fear because he needed to see that his actions affect everybody.
A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens is a tale of the morality changes of a man. The uncharitable, cold heart of the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, melts with ardent love as he receives visitations from three Christmas spirits who enlighten his soul with wise lessons and bring a warm change to his heart. In the beginning of the novel, Scrooge expresses his vices of greed and cold heartedness by his words and actions, but as the story unfolds, his life is renewed by these Spirits who shed light and truth upon him, resulting in making him become a better man, portraying the virtue of charity.
The Dream of the Rood there are three parts to the story: the Dreamer’s account of his dream of the Cross, the Rood’s monologue describing the Crucifixion, and the Dreamer’s determination to pursue the salvation of the Cross. The story begins with the narrator remembering a vision he received in a dream, where he comes across the rood on which Christ was crucified. “Attend to what I intend to tell you a marvelous dream that moved me at night when human voices are veiled in my sleep. In my dream I espied the most splendid tree. Looming aloft with light around, the most brilliant beam. That bright tree was covered with gold; gemstones gleamed fairly fashioned down to its foot, yet another five were standing.” (Lines 1-8) In the lines above, when the narrator first presents the rood he refers to it as though it were an icon. Later on, the rood (cross) will be presented as a loyal being to Christ. However, light was created for a purpose, to show the holiness of the tree. Correspondingly, “Yet another five were standing”, is referencing to the five wounds of Christ. The tree tells the story of the crucifixion to the dreamer. The reason the tree is telling the story is for originality purposes. The tree is conceivably the most common religion symbol in the spirituality of mankind. From the biblical custom and many others, the...
The first set of bells that we come across in this piece are the silver bells. These bells represent the first stage of human life: youth. Firstly, the color silver is pure and shiny. This is the way humans come into the world: pure, without harshness. Silver bells are associated with the winter season, which, to some, appears beautiful and untouched, just like a child. The words "merriment" and "jingling",along with the line "In the icy air of night", seem to infer that these bells are being rung around the holiday season. The ringing of these bells brings to mind a child-like anticipation of what the season will bring. The words in this first stanza are light-hearted, giving it a jubilant feel. It is also interesting to note that the first stanza has fourteen lines, making it the shortest stanza in the poem. This goes back to the idea of youth.
Charles Dickens wrote the novel A Christmas Carol because he believed that he can have an influence on the situation in England in the 19th century(Bio). He included the character’s greed and want that are a part of Scrooge during his visits with the Ghosts of Christmas.
Many people in American society assume that the main purpose of Christmas is the supposed coming of Santa Claus. Their assumption however is far from the truth. The origins of Christmas, which literally means "Christ mass," actually lie in Christianity-not in the fat man with a stomach that jiggles like a bowl full of jelly. Centuries ago, Christians developed a tradition of celebrating Jesus Christ's birthday. Although Christians were unsure of the exact date of Christ's birth, they officially declared December 25th as the day they would celebrate it. The holiday began simply as a day in which families would spend quality time together, reflecting on Jesus' life, giving thanks to God for sending his "one and only son."
A Christmas Carol is one of the few traditional Christmas stories I have never read. I already knew the basic story line, but I didn’t really know what was going to happen. I love reading and watching things for the first time. It was fun seeing the different versions and comparing them to the book. There were some differences, escpecially in the Muppets movie, but overall the lesson still shown through. I think it’s a great story that teaches us how to really be grateful and love the people around us.
