A Christmas Carol is one of the few traditional Christmas stories I have never read. I already knew the basic story line, but I didn’t really know what was going to happen. I love reading and watching things for the first time. It was fun seeing the different versions and comparing them to the book. There were some differences, escpecially in the Muppets movie, but overall the lesson still shown through. I think it’s a great story that teaches us how to really be grateful and love the people around us. The first movie we watched was the 1984 version of George C. Scott. This was a very serious version that I feel was very similar to the book. It showed how grumpy and unhappy Scrooge was and how big of a trasformation he had by the end of the movie. Obviously they didn’t get every detail right, but the directors did the best they could. Even though it was pretty similar to the book there …show more content…
were some small differences that I found. The first being when Bob Marley’s ghost leaves through the window. In the book it described many other ghosts just like Marley wandering the night sky, but in the movie it shows a peaceful and quiet night. There are also quite a few small differences. For Example the dialogue might be slightly different or in a few cases they took out and changed small parts of various scenes. An example of this is when Scrooge is with the ghost of Christmas past. In the book it talks of them playing a game called the blind-man’s bluff, but in the movie this game was not included. There are many other small differences, but none of them really stuck out to be as being terribly important. Overall I feel that this 1984 version did a very good job of following the book. However the second movie, The Muppet Christmas Carol, is very different.
To start off with the obvious it has a mixture of the Muppets and humans, but that one is a given. One of the first differences I noticed while watching the movie is that Charles Dickens is narrating the whole story. In the form of a Muppet, Charles Dickens is actually telling the story, with the help of Rizzo the rat. Throughout the movie these two characters help add humor. I makes the movie less scary in parts that might otherwise scare children. Another big thing is the singing. There are many songs that were added through out the movie. One of the first songs is where I spotted another big difference. When Bob Marley’s ghost comes to visit Scrooge you will notice that there is actually two of them. In the Muppets version they added in another character, Jacob Marley. When they come to warn Scrooge about the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future they do it in the form of a song. This movie has many differences, but since it is made for children it is not excepted to follow the plot line
exactly. My favorite of these three versions was the George C. Scott interpretation. The Muppets movie was to childish for me. I felt like I didn’t get the real story from the movie. The book obviously has the right storyline since it is the original. It would have been my favorite except that I am a very visual person. I found I wasn’t paying attention to the details when I was just listening. The George C. Scott movie was the best for me because it had close to the same plot line and I stayed involved and payed attention. That is why the 1984 version of A Christmas Carol was my favorite. As a whole all three versions were very good and I enjoyed watching all of them. There were differences, in some versions more then others, but that is expected when you make a movie. They all have very good lesson to teach to both children and adults. I think everyone should watch these at least once.
Dr. Seuss's original fable is a simple story told with a great moral that criticizes the commercialization of Christmas. The original story features an “Ebenezer Scrooge” type creature that lives up the mountains outside "Whoville." The Grinch indulges himself in the annual ritual of spoiling everyone's festivities with a series of nasty pranks. This particular year however he plans to sabotage the holiday season by dressing as Santa Claus, clim...
The movie Four Christmases has two main characters are Vince Vaughn (Brad) and Reese Witherspoon (Kate). This movie is about an unmarried couple that has no plans of getting married or having children anytime soon. Every Christmas they plan an adventurous vacation for the two of them. They do this to avoid going to all of their families’ houses for the holiday. This year Kate and Brad planned to go to Fiji for vacation, but the weather took a turn for the worst and they weren’t able to go. Due to the weather, their flight got cancelled. The news caught them on live television alerting their families that they were now available for Christmas. Both Brad and Kate’s families are divorced, so there were four families to visit. They plan

In this essay I am going to distinguish the personality of Scrooge also show you how he was at the beginning of the novella in the 1st Stave to how he changes at the end in the 5th Stave.
...rtrayed differently in the movie. Lennie is shown as being very mentally challenged, whereas in the book he is just a little slow and has a mind of a young child. Although some changes are made in the movie to make it flow better, it is still based on the same story as the book. The movie has the same plot line and characters, and some of the scenes are told in the exact same way as they are in the novel. As well, the movie and the book give out the same themes. This story is about how all the people in the Great Depression were trying to escape their unhappy, lonely lives, but weren’t capable of doing so. The movie stays very true to the book even though some things are removed or added. Everything that is added or changed still works very well and captures the film perfectly.
The scene where Robby went on a double date. The social structure of class was express through the social construction of posing bonds. Glenn says Robby should look into the bond market business because that is where the money is. Robby shows his income by having a saving bonds worth $25.00 in 1993. The social structure of Masculinity is express through body, when talking Robby and Glenn are talking about the women’s butt as a piece of meat.
A Christmas Carol is a classic novel with lessons that is universally recognized. Scrooge is a cold-hearted, bitter, and greedy man who detests Christmas. Joy is his enemy and he believes it to be unnecessary. Scrooge realizes a great deal about himself and those around him because of the spirits of Christmas Present, Past, and Future visits. Through those visits, he undergoes a transformation that effects the rest of his life. Ebenezer Scrooge sees firsthand how temptation can corrupt and how redemption can save.
In the play, A Christmas Carol, it started out with Marley speaking out to the audience, unlike the movie, where it just started out with Mr. Scrooge trudging through the snow. (Dickens 1) Another minor difference was in the play, the spirit of Christmas Past was a man, yet in the movie being a woman. (Dickens 11) During the visit of Christmas Past, Mr. Scrooge traveled through the past as another’s perspective, instead of his own. (Video
Just like the play, Ebenezer Scrooge is the main character in the story. He is a mean, cold-hearted man that has no Christmas spirit whatsoever. All that Scrooge cares about and will ever care about is his wealth until he is taken on a journey. He is lead by 3 ghosts of his past, present, and future as he was in the play. These ghosts show him what Christmas spirit is and try to force it upon him. All of this finally hits him once he is taken to the future and witnesses his own grave. Scrooge pleads for a second chance to change his bad ways. Once he wakes up in his bedroom after all of this craziness, he jumps for joy and makes many new friends while mending with some old friends. He fixes many of his wrongs and lives out the rest of his life as a happier, friendlier, and a generous
...ht it was extremely delightful. Also when Scrooge went to his nephew Fred’s home and started dancing it looked like Scrooge was having fun and he fitted in a big happy family. But the most key moment was at the end when Scrooge was carrying Tiny Tim in his arms and then Tiny Time said ‘Bless us all’
The novel and the movie version of The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens have both similarities and differences. Some of the similarities are character development, the setting and the plot. Some of the differences are character development and added or deleted scenes.
One minor difference in the movie was that the Ghost of Christmas yet to come has a hand of skin. Not a hand without skin that was wrote in the book. I think that this makes a difference though because it doesn't show a big impact on the story. I think Charles Dickens put the skinless hand in his story to give his story a "chill-factor". I don't think that the director of the TNT version of A Christmas Carol thought that it was a big deal or a big impact to the rest of the story. Another difference between book and movie is that Scrooge doesn't go to church at the end of the story. I think it makes a big difference though, because it shows how much Scrooge has changed since the three spirits came to visit him. It shows a "before-and-after" effect which I think made a big impact on the story. The last significant change between the book and the movie is that when Scrooge follows the Ghost of Christmas yet to come, he ends up falling into his grave. This is significant because Scrooge gets to meet the old Scrooge and gives him a slap in the face of reality of what's going to happen if things don't change. Its ironic too because it's the new Scrooge that wakes up on the bed in the morning.
A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens is a tale of the morality changes of a man. The uncharitable, cold heart of the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, melts with ardent love as he receives visitations from three Christmas spirits who enlighten his soul with wise lessons and bring a warm change to his heart. In the beginning of the novel, Scrooge expresses his vices of greed and cold heartedness by his words and actions, but as the story unfolds, his life is renewed by these Spirits who shed light and truth upon him, resulting in making him become a better man, portraying the virtue of charity.
It brought a good balance to film, and made not too broad. The Director also did a good job on the having a good theme; the theme of faith, and Christmas spirit. Sometimes people need to have faith in something bigger, and need to just believe for once. Overall the message to me was that it’s good to have faith, and that’s all you really need. Now on to the Christmas theme, like how the director uses this theme to explain it’s all about Christmas spirit. Seeing the children look at Santa, and having their faces light up with happiness. Not about money, and companies trying to sell Christmas like Macy’s was trying to do. The director George Seaton also does a good job with getting the best performances out of his actors and actresses. If you don’t get that then the film might not be as good, and up to its potential. I thought the acting in this film was very well
