My dream career is to be a detective. My reason for studying or wanting to be in this career is because I want to help people find what they are looking for. I want to be able to make people smile and be happy. Another reason for me researching this career is because I think it’s a something I would enjoy doing. It’s a job I would want to wake up every morning to do. Yes there are going to be those days were I do not want to wake up and do my job but that’s part of life you have to do thing sometimes you don’t want to do such as wake up to go to school early. I have chosen this career because I like to work with people. In this career you get to work with many different people in your career field. In my career field as a detective I get to work with many people, such as the police officers, S.W.A.T team and at times the C.I.A.
My history can basically go on forever to when the first missing kid was put on the back of a milk cartoon. The one that caught my eye would be going back to whenever Kate Warne, first female detective solved her first case. Many people doubted her because she was a female, and she was the only woman that worked there. My personal opinion would be that a female can do anything a male can do. Kate Warne was the woman that proved them wrong. The doubted her so much that they gave her no information on a case because they believed she couldn’t solve a case. So one day she decided to go and find her own case. When she did so she found the two missing people see was looking for, when she came to tell her coworkers that she had solved the case they were so surprised and let her start doing cases with them. So truth is if a women try’s her hardest she can achieve anything a man can.

I chose to research the profession of a homicide detective. This profession interests me because I find solving a puzzle satisfying, by picking up the pieces (evidence) and fitting them together I can solve the mystery of the homicide. This of course is something I will have to work toward, as I cannot become one right out of the gate. First I will have to be a police officer. I have to be a police officer first because I need to gain experience in the criminal justice world and with victims/ suspects. Depending on the town I choose to pursue my career in I could have to start as a patrol officer or at a jail. Choosing a career path was not easy. I wanted to be able to do so many task that did not fit into certain criteria. My main goal in life is to be able to help those that need support. Getting a psychology degree was a leverage because I could get my degree in this field and use it to help others out. I wanted to be a psychodynamic therapist when I started classes, but after finding out there are more career paths available, I decided to enter the work force of being a victim advocate.

When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be something that had to do with Criminal Justice. Why? Well because I use to watch a lot of those crime shows when I was younger and they always had my full attention. Plus my aunt is a sheriff so when I could I would go to work with her and I get an even closer hand on look at CSI work. So going with her made me even more interested day by day. At that moment I knew what I wanted to be when I finished high school.
Now that I am in college I'm always asked “What is your major?” I always reply with a smile saying “Criminal Justice” I usually get a snare look and then they walk away. Police work is no easy task being an officer requires having the guts to protect and serve their community, it takes integrity and respect to others. I have always taken an interest in Criminal Justice and crime prevention ever since middle school and I set out to make my career goal to become a Criminal Justice professional. Thus, pursuing a Criminal Justice master’s degree has been a part of my plans for the future and will become one of my core focuses that I will set up in my graduate studies. For my graduation project, I chose the career option of being a police officer. Since I was a child I have always wanted to be a police officer when I grow up. My neighbors and I always use to play cops and robbers growing up, and I would always want to be the cop. I would also and still always watch the show “Cops”. I like the show because it is very interesting and I could see myself pursuing that career. That is where it all started.
My grandfather was a police officer when he was younger; he would tell us stories of he and his buddies on motorcycle patrol and the life of a cop. After I graduated from high school, I enrolled in the law enforcement program at Spokane Community College where I planned to fulfill my dream of becoming a cop. My Career The career field I chose is to be a firefighter. The reason why I want to be a firefighter is because they help people and prevent fires from spreading. Steven Seagal once said , “It is a lot harder now to be an Police Officer than what it used to be.” When I was six years old my family and I had got into really bad accident, a Police Officer pulled out my mother, brother and me before the car caught on fire. He could have saved the younger man in the other car, but he made the decision to save my family. Ever since then I have always admired Police Officers and their service. Though because of the progression of technology I would be more suited in a field involving computers. My dream job is to become a successful software engineer because I have always been into computer systems, but can I fit this job, is the career life something I can manage and what opportunities should I go after when becoming a software engineer.
