Topic discussed Frequent job changes is one of the trends in the modern careers driven by the ever changing economic environment or the individual’s personal aspirations. The pull factor among those in midlife stage to voluntarily change their careers is the desire to achieve self-actualization. When one embarks into the midlife phase, he or she decides to pursue a purposeful life which at times can be attained by engaging oneself in a significant vocation. The author intends to bring to light the midcareer adults’ motivations to make changes in their career pathway in the hope to achieve self-actualization after contemplating the possibilities and consequences of diving into a new venture. It is imperative then for the counsellors to asses their client’s level of self-actualization in aiding them to determine the distress that one might feel in their strife to look for a meaningful life. Counsellors also need to discover how the clients feel about the changes that will take place in being able move towards beyond self-actualization. Clients may not know the way to make that transition and may feel fearful of the what lies ahead of them. It is helpful for the counsellors to meet the clients at this critical point so that they could explore their anxieties in making drastic changes and their frustrations in not knowing where to start their career
