Future of Corrections There are many different jobs in corrections that vary from community programs to institution, from either adult or juvenile corrections, from privately administered agencies to state and federal agencies. Although correction is demanding and challenging, it can be very rewarding. Corrections hold various career paths, such as probation officers and treatment specialists, parole officers, the staff of pretrial release and diversion programs, drug counselors, and forensic psychologists. The work of corrections comes with many challenges and in the next, five to ten years will bring many more challenges.

Research shows that the demand for correctional offices will still happen over the decades, however, budgets limit it but crime rates will likely have the employment rates for corrections raise. In fact, correctional officers are believed to grow up to five percent from 2012 to 2022, which is slower than other occupations (Siegel, 2016). The cost of inmates in prisons is said to change the laws to shorter prison terms and alternative sentencing and prisons. The questions is will corrections become more community oriented and demand that inmates repay their victims regularly, or just keep incarcerating criminals. Additionally, will corrections continue to spend money on alternatives prisons and programs and give harsher punishments? The future of community-oriented corrections will be to find the solution to overcrowding prisons and the expense of prisons. However, this can only occur if corrections start to evidence-based practice.
