Cancer is defined as a rapid, uncontrollable division of abnormal cells that can metastasize and spread to other areas of one’s body. This year alone, approximately “585,720 Americans are expected to die of cancer, almost 1,600 people per day” ("Cancer Fact & Figures 2014"). Cancer can form and attack any cell, tissue or organ in the body. Therefore the purpose of this paper is to explain the five more common types of cancer Americans are most frequently diagnosed with, as well as the symptoms associated with each type; factors that could potentially cause cancer and those who are more at risk or susceptible of developing any form of cancer; also ways to detect cancer, treat cancer and the steps one could take to lower their risk.

Cancer is one of the deadliest and most devastating diseases that anyone can be diagnosed with. Cancer can take form in virtually any area of the body, such as any cell, tissue organ, as well as your bloodstream. The five more common forms of cancer that Americans are more frequently diagnosed with include, skin cancer, lung cancer,breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colorectal cancer. Most of these cancers affect both of men and women, as well as people of all ages, although not as common in the young. Skin cancer, the most common form of cancer constitutes for almost half of the cancers that occur in the United States. Skin cancer, the most frequent form, specifically nonmelanoma skin cancer is increasingly impacting “more than 1 million people a year” (Rodriguez). Those affected not only by this specific form of skin cancer but other and rarer forms as well experience symptoms or signs that are indicative that you may any form of skin cancer. The types of cancers affecting the body’s major organs include cancer of the skin, breast, lung, prostate and colorectal. Cancers is brought on by a number of factors including environmental, genetics, as well as the activities on e participates in or the way they live their lives. There are also a variety of symptoms that are related to its corresponding form of cancer, and one must recognize these symptoms and seek the treatment that is best for them. Also, in addition to understanding the symptoms that are related to different cancers, one can take steps in efforts to help lower their risk for the development of any cancer.
