The political issue at stake in this article is Canada’s politicians and their contributions on climate change. People all over Canada protested at the campaign events of the major political party leaders, asking them what they plan to do to change Canada’s climate change impacts. These protests have affected Thomas Mulcair and Justin Trudeau as “both have committed to include climate change impacts in the reviews of tar sands pipelines, and have clarified that their process overhauls could send the Energy East and Kinder Morgan pipelines back to square one of the review process.” The NDP and Liberal parties have also said that they will focus more on climate, though they didn’t explain how in detail. Without the protesters, Canada’s politicians would do whatever they wanted in terms of climate, because no one would tell them that what they’re doing is wrong. By crashing campaign events, they have made the issue of climate change known to the politicians and to the rest of Canada. It is now one of the most important issues that the politicians have to face this election. That is why it is a political issue, because if there is a positive change in Canada’s climate after this, it will benefit all Canadians and even all humans.

“Regardless of their personal fame and influence, people can be powerful, especially when they form groups. Political protests, marches, and sit-ins-all examples of “people power”- can create change.” The type of power at work here is protest power because it involves a large group of regular people, with no particular influence individually, getting together to demand a change in the politicians plans in terms of climate change.
