The purpose of this document is to propose a solution to the lack of a proper training program for new hires, which has become a growing problem at the Calumet Bakery location in Lansing, Illinois. The development and delivery of a training program for all new bakery clerk hires is an essential step Calumet Bakery must take to ensure that its organization is providing exceptional service to its many customers. I recommend that the approval to implement a training program occur after the New Year, after the holiday rush, in order to provide upmost attention how the training program is progressing.

When training, the new hire shadows the current employee. During the shadowing process, the current employee teaches the new employee the names and prices of the items offered by Calumet Bakery. There is not an employee manual for the bakery clerks therefore, what is taught to the new employees is based off how the current employee who is training them thinks the job should be done. To become a trainer the employee must have recommendations from two assistant managers and attend a meeting with the general manager. Once approved to be a trainer, the employee must be provided with the necessary materials such as: employee handbook, training program schedule, and tests. The trainer is also required to attend monthly meetings with the management staff.
