Self-Marketing and Resume Development
As we complete the organizational leadership capstone course and achieve our educational degree, it is now time to be able to take the skills and knowledge we have earned and bring them to the workplace. Colorado State University-Global (n.d.) offers its students and alumni many resources to assist in entering the job market, such as job search tips, resume building, career coaching, interview practice questions, stress management, and many more helpful options. Since employers have only a limited amount of time to devote to the job selection process, it is critical for students/alumni to accurately search and find positions in which they are well-suited and qualified to perform, carefully develop resumes

The structure of the resume will depend on past work history, education, and the target audience. CSU-Global (n.d.) notes that a candidate can organize the resume in chronological order, functional/skills, or a combination of both. Applicants do not need to list all of their prior employment but instead highlight their specific skills and contribution from the past that demonstrates solutions or was beneficial to prior employers. It is also important for those just starting out in the job market to emphasize the skills and knowledge received from their education and list the core competencies they will be able to draw from upon employment. Employers understand that new graduate may not have the experience needed to perform the job, but may be swayed to make allowances based on a strong educational foundation. Additionally, Jaffe (2017) notes that there are many comments on websites about companies that exclude older job seekers with long work histories in favor of the recent graduates. With the strong educational foundation CSU-Global has provided, it is likely that I will be able to secure a job in my desired field of organizational development and be a successful and valued asset to any organization. People who have experience in a certain field are losing their jobs to college students who are willing to do the same job for less money and put more time into the tasks. Those who have worked at the same job for over twenty-years and suddenly find themselves in a situation with no job will find it’s more difficult to obtain a new job for their set of skills that they have mastered over the years. The reason people should be concerned about this is that people grow old and one day this will affect them as well as others who have followed the same career path. The age factor applies to all jobs because at one point in life people will not be able to keep going at the same pace as they had in the past making them less valuable to the company

5 Things That Can Help to Overcome Gaps in Work History Professionals switching jobs is not a novel phenomenon. Given the opportunities that are available today; people are willing to hop jobs or wait until they land a job that offers them the right opportunities and job satisfaction. However the quest for an ' ideal job' may not be easy and person might end-up losing time thereby creating gaps in his/her work profile. Functional resume: Graduates entering the workforce for the first time may find it difficult to land a job.
You can also put these details in the bottom portion of your resume but if you do so, never forget to keep it in the body of your resume and not in the footer. Because some of the companies sort out from the pool of applications electronically and softwares don't read the 'header' and 'footer' portion at all. Opening statement: It's a summary of who you are, what's your educational qualifications and work experience and what you will bring to the company. The ideal length for this statement is six lines.

The career services professional supports the educational mission of a college by assisting students to develop, evaluate, and pursue career aspirations with the goal of securing employment. Career services professionals accomplish these goals with a range of programs, counseling and services designed to help students make the connection between the academic environment and the workplace. Career Counseling, or Career Services depending on the institution, is frequently offered on a one-on-one basis, but at times this service is provided through group workshops, classes, or computerized guidance systems. Traditionally a standard function of the career services role is to help students develop job search skills however the scope of the career development services has broadened considerably in recent years (Komives, Woodard, & Associates, 2003, p. 344). Career services professionals may teach resume writing, critique students' resumes and cover letters, provide resources on resume and employment letter writing, job interviewing skills, and planning job search strategies.
