John is the main character of the story by the waters of Babylon. He becomes a priest after his father takes him and goes to the Dead Places to make John touch the metal. Throughout the story, John has shown courage and ambition in his character. He is always looking for thrilling adventure. His tribe believes that going to the forbidden place is a bad thing. John wants to know why he can't go there.In the story there is also the character of the dead god.

Plot
The plot of the story is that John Goes a journey to find himself and to seek out knowledge. The story focuses in the future when the earth is more dangerous. There are dangerous places like the place of the gods. Also there are dangerous people like the dead god. They want to show that the future can be dangerous. The future plot also follows the destruction of industrial civilization. The narrative of the story is John who is the son of a priest.

4. Point of view
By the Waters of Babylon is written in the first person. You can tell this right away because john says the word I throughout the story. Also he says “My father the priest”. This proves that the point of view of the story is written in first person view.



5. Setting
The story “By the Waters of Babylon” is set in a future following the destruction of industrial civilization, the story is told in a first person point of view by John. The story focuses in the future where the world has become dangerous. There is no more government no more rules and people can do anything. There are dangerous places and dangerous people. There is basically an apocalypse. The setting looks like its in New York because in the story john says that he is standing on a cliff looking at a dirty river. That line sounds like he was standing on a cliff looking at hudson
