Business psychology might be very helpful to business, but is it helpful as a sustainable career? The job’s of those business psychologist will most likely entail them to being an adult. Is this career field a place where someone might want to go as an adult? According to research done by the Population Reference Bureau, the past years have shown approximately 50 percent (fluctuating hear and there by a very small percentage) of adults getting married. With this data, it is understood that at least half of adults need to provide and take care of a family. The real task in this paper is to find out if business psychology is a career field that is a goal worth working toward, can it sustain a family, and how does one benefit from it?
The career of business psychology is more vast than what meets the eye. There are a lot of jobs and career fields that a person who is already in business psychology could fall into. For example, a business psychologist could work with advertising and/or marketing. Understanding psychology will improve the effectiveness of an advertisement, not to mention with the business savvy knowledge, it can be marketed fast and efficiently. Another example of the opportunities business psychology brings is a human resource specialist. With all the recruiting, screening, interviewing and hiring of employees, all the experience and information gained from business psychology can really narrow down who the best people are for the job. These, among many others, are all the opportunities business psychology can be a career worth working toward. Business psychology is a field not widely known, but definitely has a big impact on business success, but just as important, benefit the individual in that career. Business psychology is a career that is successful enough and has enough opening to sustain a family, and is reliable. This career has a lot of benefits to the individual, like personal satisfaction from helping others. It is well known that excessive ambition and motivation can destroy someone, but, used correctly, can skyrocket someone to happiness, as in the case of Dunstan Ramsey, Percy Staunton, and Paul Dempster. These two qualities not only give these characters the will to keep on living, but also enable them to rise above the masses during the Great Depression. Researchers in the field can study psychology as a whole or one of the various sub-disciplines that psychology breaks down into. These sub-disciplines range from the psychology of learning to fringe theoretical psychology. The men and women who conduct studies in the psychological field, referred to as psychologists, continue research in their sub-disciplines to add to the knowledge of the community. Psychology is my number one career field choice. In many ways, it also reflects every other career choice that I have. Teachers lead our young toward successful lives. Government workers help to push policies that improve processes for their people. And professional athletes commit their live to the vast study of their sport and practice to master the skills needed to thrive and succeed. As a psychologist, I can see myself implementing all three of these ideas.
