Teamwork is a coordinated function implemented by a set of employees, often individuals with very different skills. These different types of teams can even be found in a college setting. Teams may be permanent or established on short notice to handle problems or opportunities as they occur. These concepts depend quite heavily on open and effective communication. Employees who are empowered to make decisions need information and the insights of their colleagues; they cannot make good decisions without an effective communication system. Questions need to be asked within a “teamwork” setting in order to work to a solution. For teams to communicate effectively there has to be more than one person. For one person does not make a team! Communication is the single most important aspect of a successful team. “Along with cooperation and commitment; communication is critical in the success of teams.” (Luebeck, 2014) “Clearly articulating the division of responsibilities and having a mutual understanding of the shared goals, division of responsibility and ultimate end product is critical.” (Luebeck, 2014) Next is motivation. Not everyone seems to have motivation. Motivating staff requires awareness and good communication. For a team to be successful, there needs to be the fundamentals of good leadership and great communication. This is all very true and I will explain throughout this paper what I believe teamwork and leadership should entail.
I learned very early this semester, that I was on two teams, in two different classes. After seeing the list of potential team members, I immediately knew I was in trouble, in both classes. My team for the Business Simulation Game was quite upsetting from the start. Do you ever have a gut insti...

Then I get to thinking about leadership. Just where is the management when you need them? It is like when you see a person speeding and no cop around. If I was speeding, oh I can guarantee there would be a cop in plain sight. The same goes for my work ethic. If I am not fulfilling my job duties to my highest potential, there is someone to tell me so. “Yet leadership and teamwork are the twist and woof of what makes an organization thrive. One can’t exist without the other.” (Sohem, 2013) Just what does leadership mean? Trait theorists define leadership as a set of traits, while behavioral theorists identify it as a set of skills; and; researchers from a social constructive perspective tend to define leadership as a process and relationship. (Sohem, 2013)
This Paper will analyze the influence leadership, team development, motivation and chemistry has on team cohesion. This paper explores three published journal articles, and two books where results and research on leadership, team development, motivation and chemistry were collected. The research indicates that each concept intertwines with one another and all concepts influence the outcome of good or bad team cohesion. Through the use of the movie Remember the Titans this paper will help readers further understand how team cohesion is formed and influenced. Overall, it was found that if a team does not have good leadership, proper team development, and good motivation and chemistry, then team cohesion is inhibited as well as performance. These
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
It is proven that teams who work well together perform and have a higher rate of success compared to teams who do not work well together or communicate with each other. A recent article with regards to leadership discussed the topic of group cohesion and how this is a factor for success. The article discussed several situations, one about a business company, one about a sports team and one about a military operation. The article closely analyzed the leaders of the three situations and discussed the similarities and differences between the three. The main similarity between was there focus on cohesion. The article contained facts about how the business was operating and how that in recent years, production and sales as increased drastically, and one factor for this increase was the CEO implemented a mandatory team building exercise each
In order for a work place to be successful and beneficial to everyone involve in the company, teams needs to be form, and each team must have a goal in mind. Employees must come together to accomplish a common goal. Teamwork will not only benefit those involve in the project but it will also have a huge impact in your business.
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
The team members should know how important a project is to the company and stride to achieve the goals in a professional manner. Each member should contribute one hundred and ten percent of their input to the group to make the project the best that it can be. Every member of the team should be rewarded individually for their performance, insights, and total input that is beneficial to the team. Communication is the key to a productive team. Without proper communication with a high performance team, it will be very difficult for the team to be victorious on the project they are trying to accomplish.
Teamwork is becoming more important in the work place, because of the leaders and the fact that it allows full participation with all employees. In order to complete several different tasks, managers and supervisors usually perform teams and assign different tasks to complete one major assignment. Team work starts at the top (Smikle, 2009). When supervisors or managers are willing to administer teamwork, they are enabling the employees to follow. Managers or supervisors set good examples when they delegate tasks, but more importantly express to the employees how teamwork is productive. Employees work by example, more so now than by demands.
Why do we form teams? The goal of a team is to be able to do something together that could not be done alone. In this big, international, world of business and life we do, in fact, need teams. We need to work together to do all that we truly cannot do alone. Yet, knowing that we need teams is only the first step of many. Everyone has some experience being on a team, but few of us are experts who have done extensive research. A byproduct of this is that there are many common myths that abound about teams. These include misconceptions related to varied topics such as: what makes a team, how to run a team effectively, general attitudes about teamwork, its (teamwork’s) value to business and even its very nature.
