Personal Statement
I plan to pursue a career in human resource management which UCSD does not offer a major or program that is specific to such a career path. Yonsei University’s business administration major, will help me greatly in pursuing my goals. Under their program, I will be able to expand my knowledge on organizational behavior. Additionally, being a psychology major, I am interested in how people from other cultures think, and studying abroad will allow me to catch a glimpse of a perspective I’m not exposed to in the U.S.
Aside from the courses specific to my career, I am more eager to hunt for real-life internships in real-life company settings that are available at Yonsei. Landing such an internship in the U.S. will look good to

Many of these experiences impacted my decision to study abroad. For one, because I lived in a Hispanic populated neighborhood, I decided to take Spanish in high school. After my first year, I had attended a service at an elementary school and was able to converse shortly with one of the student’s parent in Spanish. The feeling of accomplishment from using the language and being able to interact with someone from a different culture encouraged me to take Spanish for two more years. Another time, during one of my last services in a nursing home, a Korean lady had said something. I felt helpless that I couldn’t understand her, because what if she had needed something, so her words were engrained in my mind until this day. That helplessness led me to take on Korean in college, where I learned that the lady had complimented my scarf, and further my studies of the culture in Korea. Although I haven’t partaken in a lot of community service this past year, I will be volunteering at a high school throughout the week this …show more content…
Coming from a family with only one parent having a stable paying job means that either my mom had to overwork herself or I had to step up and take responsibility for my own bills. I chose the latter because I didn’t want to burden and exhaust my mom for the price of my education. That is why, from my first quarter in college, I have worked to help pay off loans, rent, books, and other expenses. However, the minimum wage pay barely sufficed for my first year; I had still found myself asking my mom for money for food or materials. Thus, I applied to be a student lead within my job, but that came with extra hours. With the extra hours, there was less time to study, I was crammed for time, and I got sick almost every week which eventually led me to drop a class and resulted in a poor performance in my last quarter. Even then, I can’t quit because I need this job so that I would be able to attend school without any financial burden. I do have some money saved, but it wouldn’t be enough to fund my study abroad. With any amount of assistance, I would be able to worry less about money, focus on my studies, and enjoy the cultural experience while I’m
One experience that I will always remember is the day I was running errands and had the opportunity to meet a very special patient. She was a sweet woman who was originally from Mexico. We were having a friendly conversation when she asked me about why I chose to do community service at the hospital. I explained to her that I planned on majoring in the medical field one day and I was working on obtaining community service hours. We got to talking about the education systems in our countries. In our conversation I learned that only selected people were given the opportunity to receive an education in her native country of Mexico. She told me about the poor education system and the extreme poverty which debilitates Mexico. As a United States citizen, I am provided with a variety of options for education. People in Mexico must fight to obtain access to any education. This made me realize how truly fortunate I am.
Living in the United States as a Korean-American was not an easy task growing up. Sure I knew how to read and write English, but I did not know how to read, speak, and write my native language. It was difficult for me emotionally because I felt other people looked down on me especially Korean adults who often asked me why I did not know how to speak Korean in which I had no direct answer. "You should know how to at least speak Korean," they commonly spoke in a friendly tone, trying not to hurt my feelings. In my seventh grade year, I had the urge to take a step in order for me to fit in with the rest of my fellow peers, the Korean sub communities, and feel better about myself.
These experiences have helped me to see and embrace the differences of others. My Hispanic culture has allowed me to become a collectivist, family oriented individual. I put others first and care about what will benefit the majority. My previous volunteer experiences within my community has also shaped my choices. I participated in Flip for Autism, a gymnastics event for those with physical and intellectual disabilities. This event opened my eyes to the many great accomplishments and limitlessness of those with disabilities and furthermore confirmed my professional
I built upon my cross-cultural experiences as I befriended exchange students from Belgium, Japan, and Korea. Each time, the friendships enriched my appreciation and understanding of not only my own culture, but the very concept of culture. What falls under the cultural blanket can vary from person to person, and I found it to be very interesting that while one person could claim lan...
Healthcare administration is a field that is often overlooked, but is essentially the beating heart of any healthcare organization. With more and more hospital, and clinics, and other healthcare organizations popping up everywhere there is a need for people like me to manage the day-to-day operations. I am choosing to apply to this program because I want to study how the U.S. healthcare system operates. I want to learn the essential skills of operating a healthcare facility such as managing a budget, reducing healthcare costs, analyzing the efficiency of an organization and proposing ways to improve it. This program is going to give me the necessary education and skills so I can carry out my goal of being a healthcare administrator.

The mind must never be kept idle because of its tremendous capacity to absorb and learn. After careful consideration of my aptitude, interests and experiences gained while pursuing my under graduation in the field of Computer Science and Engineering, I have decided to pursue my Masters in the field of Computer Science. Being a dynamic and ever evolving field, many new developments are expected and there is immense scope for research on new products and applications. To progress and make a mark in this field, I realize that it is important for me to pursue my Masters from a reputable university. I have always dreamt of taking up research.
I am currently majoring in Finance at Carlson School of Management, and I have decided to explore the career and future growth of a financial analyst. I chose to explore this career because some of my cousins work in this field and I’m interested in numbers and analysis. I also have an interest in following the stock market and working in a stimulating environment. What sets me apart from others is that I’m able to use time management efficiently. I’m able to study and complete major assignments while still finding plenty of time to socialize with others. Having taken StrengthsQuest last year, I learned that I strive for the future, I’m often positive, and I’m a believer in harmony. I believe in consistency, the idea that all people should
For my under graduate studies, I opted for “Information Technology” in SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce. During the course of the study I understood the fundamentals of IT through the Programming language and database courses. After my undergraduate education, the strong desire to understand the global business management process and the requirements of the industry propelled me to pursue a Post Graduate Diploma in Management specializing in “International Business” from Pillai’s Institute of Management and Research. I was endowed with subjects like Supply chain Management and Customer Relationship management, Shipping and Logistics Management, International trade operations and MIS for Global Organisations. At the end of first year, an overseas study tour to China provided an international perspective on business by exposure to the different factors business has to address in their particular environment. The study tour gave us a ch...
Amongst all of the courses I see, four of them are of particular interest to me. 1) Constitutional Law 2) Legislation and Regulation, 3) Contracts 4) Law of Clean and Renewable Energy. This degree can enhance my professional competence of effectively acting as a legal counselor in investment transactions, which can make a difference to the progress of the nations I work with. It would also allow me to further my understanding on how to help these countries to design stimulus packages influenced by our domestic legislation hence increasing investment, by domestic and multinational
Every day, many people question my passion for pursuing accounting as a profession and the first answer I think of is that I am good with numbers. However, advancing in the field has made me realize that my passion is not only based on figures. Growing up as a kid, I was privileged to have a piggy account where I would save as little as fifty cents per week. Since my parents rewarded me in monetary value as a positive reinforcement in cases of good behaviour, I was motivated to maintain good manners so long as my savings increased. As time went by, I realized I had saved way “too much” money for a little child. The challenge came in the management of the funds because I was focused on spending more on pleasurable activities. However, the guidance of my parents enabled me to prioritize on the more important things and save more. I took interest in managing may own account as a child and even pursued accounting courses in high school. The interest grew deeper because I gained more insight on the facts about accounting and the career. Also, I believed that it is career that one would be self-employed thereby avoiding the dilemmas of lacking jobs after graduating. For instance, one would easily start their own business and manage their finances comfortably.
Perfection is not within the realms of possibility, but I always knew if I aim for perfection, I could at least achieve excellence. This is the mantra I have followed in every walk of life. I have always learnt to appreciate everything I have taken up, thoroughly and to the fullest. In this competitive pace of life, I have learnt a lot from my experiences and I am still striving to learn more. I constantly challenged myself in an effort to develop a rational mindset and approach to problem solving.
Two years ago, I was writing my letter of intent for my application to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Healthcare Administration revealing my failures, and most significantly, that I lost my passion and didn’t know where to start. I also conceded that I was relatively unaware of the field of Public Administration (PA). Little did I know, examining PA theories would enable me to connect the final dots in the big picture of my life, where I came from, who I’d come to be, what choices I’d made, the relationships I nurtured, and my dreams and desires for the future. Although confidence came slowly and awkwardly, I discovered my desire to contribute to the advancement of public health policies. I am writing to express my interest in continuing to the Doctoral program in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). I am absolutely interested in the commitment to the advancement of knowledge, and confident my experience in higher education and academic research will contribute to my successful completion of the Ph.D. program, in the specialization area of public policy.
I grew up in a predominately Hispanic neighborhood, where I was one of the twelve Asian students in my grade of three hundred and fifty and the only Chinese student in my class. I struggled to understand what my classmates, friends, and teachers talked about because they spoke primarily Spanish outside of the classroom, and I could barely count to ten. Fitting in was hard not only because of the language barrier but also the racial and cultural differences. Making friends with people who have little or nothing in common is difficult, so I attempted to copy whatever my classmates would do. I ate what they ate, watched what they watched, and played whatever sports they played. I took Spanish lessons with the family who lived below me, and in exchange I taught them a bit of Mandarin. By the second grade, I had eased into the community around me despite only having two close friends. They helped me to embrace my Chinese side while being assimilated. I could stop being someone I wasn’t, and I was not scared to be myself with them because they were fascinated by my unique characteristic from having Chinese heritage. I enjoyed living in Corona, since everything I needed was so close, and this i...
