Choosing healthy food options and having an exercise routine also keeps your mind and body healthy. It is also pertinent to take note of building stress and do some meditation or yoga to calm and destress yourself. We are in control of our responses to stress, so if we gain control of our stress we start to empower ourselves. Take time for yourself to do things that you enjoy like reading or taking walks. Furthermore, ask about the facilities orientation program how long it is and who will be orientating you. Try to be paired with a mentor and a strong support system of people who keep their professional standards high. It was always short staffed and I was assigned the same section every day with the majority of total assist residents. I had added stress of having to find people to help me get my residents transfer to the chair or bed. Many people transferred residents by themselves. We weren’t supposed to I even had to do it on occasion because no one would come to help, I developed some moral stress over that practice. There was an older lady that broke her hip because someone did a two-person transfer alone. Many of the other aides would cut corners and put people to bed unwashed and smelly. It really stressed me out that I couldn’t provide the care to all of these people in a way that was appropriate.
