Many people in our world believe that they have the authority to determine someone else 's worth. In our society, people are being called degrading and horrible things constantly. This is known as bullying. Bullying is defined as unwanted or aggressive behavior towards an individual that is usually repeated over time. The way someone views themselves is important to their character and way of life. If a person is constantly told that they are "ugly" or "worth nothing", it might shape them into what they see in the mirror on a daily basis. Dark thoughts that result from bullying can lead to a dark way of life and even suicidal thoughts. Bullying should be a crime because it can lead to depression and suicide in some cases.
Bullies appear in all shapes and sizes. There is not a specific physical trait that they all carry. Although, mentally and emotionally bullies might be extremely similar. Most of the time, there is some type of deep insecurity within the bully that causes them to push it onto another person. A child or teen that does bully others are known to also be engaged in other various harmful activities. They are more likely to use drugs or alcohol and tend to engage in sexual activities earlier than the norm. A bully can be someone that is popular and has a high social status. This causes them to want to establish dominance and a position above everyone else. For example, the movie Mean Girls deals with this type of conflict. A character in this movie named Regina George made a "Burn Book" to establish her dominance. This book showcased gossip and rumors about students and teachers who attended her high school. A bully could also be someone who is isolated and deals with a great amount of low self-esteem. This still cau...

...t something that is ever forgotten. It can cause a person to live and fear. It can also lead to the victim isolating themselves from social experiences and enjoying the fullness of life.
Currently, there is no federal law that directly addresses bullying alone. Although, if the bullying overlaps with some form of harassment then it can open up a case. Some examples would be making violent or death threats, physically harassment, proof of text messages or comments on social media, and committing hate crimes. Federally funded schools are obliged to address the issue of bullying, although 1 in 4 teachers see nothing wrong with bullying and will only intervene 4% of the time (stompoutbullying.org). Bullying in general should become a crime because of the affect it has on society and the victims. It is not taken as seriously as it should be taken in our society today.
...hout the corse of their life. Bully's are likely and tend to have children who then will grow up to be bullies, and the victims tend to have children who will grow up to be victims. Bullying is a cyclical problem, which is the reason as to why it impacts society as a whole, in addition to just individuals (Verial).
Bullies like to interact with people who have the same issues as them, because they don’t have to deal with competition. Bullies can be independent, but mostly bullies like to have admirers encouraging their ruthless behavior. When adult cliques bully other people, they usually focus on people who are possible rivals. They do not like to see people’s full potential, because bullies can tell that it can outshine their position in their workplace (“Sanctuary for the Abused”). Troubled adults and children have problems within themselves that they cannot fix, so they tend to take their anger out on people (“Bullying: Characteristics and Interventions”). They like to damage people’s confidence, because they know they do not have good self-esteem. Also, dictators are very reliant on others, because they want people to do their dirty work. When two dictators come together, they can possibly go to war as allies together and make horrific changes in their
Remember being a little kid and being pushed down on the playground, being picked last in middle school, or being called horrible names in high school? Those are just a few examples of how people are bullied. A person who repeatedly physically or verbally torments or harasses someone in anyway is bullying (“Bullying” par. 1). (Murray par. 5) Suicide has hit number three on what kills teenagers in the United States. (Murray par. 6) Victims who become bullied are normally people who try to separate themselves from conflict. (“Bullies” par. 7) They normally are “loners” or “outcasts”, which makes them more vulnerable to become the victim. (“Bullies” par. 7) They may like different types of music, dress unlike others, or have a disability. (Petrocelli par. 3) Children who are being bullied often show common signs like crying and not wanting to go to school. (“Bullying” par. 4) Many say people bully others because they themselves feel like “outcasts” or like they have no friends but ac...
America has struggled with bullying for many decades. Bullying is a broad topic. Bullying can be defined many different ways as well as expressed in different ways and places. Bullying has different effects on everyone. Bullying is not only physical, but also affects the victim emotionally and socially. Cyber bullying and verbal bullying are different ways someone harms another person. Sexual harassment is a major form of bullying as well. “Bullying Laws” defines cyberbullying as online emails, text messages, or posts on social media and other websites (“Bullying Laws”). Examples of verbal bullying would be name-calling, threatening, and teasing. Bullying can be between peers, or between different ages. People are not aware of the laws that are in place. “As of October, 2010, 45 states had bullying laws” (“Bullying Laws”). Due to the fact, bullying is so common between many age groups and done in many ways, it is important to recognize the problem and make policies and laws to reduce bullying between all ages.
What makes a bully? Bullies are usually people who show aggressive behavior, and they often intimidate others who in their mind do not “fit in.” Kids who are gay, transgender, overweight, or maybe even kids who come from a completely different ethnic group are often bullied. But, what is a bully’s motivation? Most kids bully because they are insecure. Bullying is their way of managing their emotions. Kids may lack attention from their families at home, and by bullying they draw attention to themselves. Bullies also believe that bullying will solve their social problems. By picking on poor, little, nerdy Betty, they
Bullies usually have had a traumatic childhood or have personal problems (Verial). “A lack of consistent consequences and parenting can also lead to children exhibiting bully behaviors” (Hatter). Also, “ a parent who falls back on parenting techniques based on aggression may fit the bullying profile” (Hatter). ...
We live in a society where we judge everyone no matter what, if we see someone different from us, we make fun of them, it could be either the way they dress, or the way they act, their color, their race, just anything. Judging leads to bullying and some times bullying can lead to suicide. Bullying is when someone or more people with more power abuse, intimidate, force, harm another person or group of people who feel helpless. Most of the people when they think about bullying they imagine someone punching other kids, which is called physical bullying but there are other types of bullying, physical bullying is the most obvious one, the second one is verbal bullying that’s when someone calls ugly names to other person, making offensive remarks, making jokes about their gender, religion, they way they look and so on. 46% of bullying in school is the verbal type. The third type would be indire...
The answer is simple, they bully so they don’t have to deal with their own problems, which is taking the “easy way out”, according to James Lehman who has a master in Social work. Bullies have not learned how to deal with their own problems, so they take it out on others. One source of bullying is at home. If children are seeing their mom, dad, brother, sister, or even aunts or uncles bullying people, that is how they learn to bully. Bullies use aggression, violence and even verbal abuse. They don’t learn how to solve their problems, so they just threaten other children instead. What does an aggressive bully look like you might ask? Well, they are the children on the playground not playing with anyone or roaming around alone. They may throw and break things because it makes them feel more powerful and in
Although almost every state in the United States of America has a state law or a policy about bullying, its consequences, and how to report it, the laws and policies have not been fully effective. "I just finally took it up with the cop at the school, but he can't do anything unless it's physical. It's hard because now I feel like I'm alone in this" (quoted by Forbes). By not acting on an incident because it is not technically a physical altercation is an example of the weakness in the state laws and policies that have been passed. Many victims do not generally go to law enforcement, school administrator, or a parent and report bullying and if were too they should never have to feel like they have been forgotten about or that their bully has gotten away with their unacceptable behavior. “More than two-thirds of students believe that schools respond poorly to bullying, and that ...
Bullying by definition is a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. Bullying can take the form of physical contact, words or more subtle actions. [Why] Bullying has grown new outlets over the last decade. With social media outlets and text messaging added to the game, bullying is not just about getting tormented face to face anymore. Cyber bullying can include sending out mean or threatening emails and instant messages about a person, spreading rumors about someone and also include photos that a person would consider to be humiliating. [Chamberlin] Bullying can have many outlets. The most common form of bullying is still face to face confrontation. But the other outlets, such as cyber bullying are definitely not something to take lightly or consider low on a scale of importance. Sexual harassment, racial differences, not being “cool enough”, or just simply being viewed as a weaker individual may attribute to many of the reasons a person is preyed on.
In the past few years, bullying has gotten so bad that people decided to take their own lives to escape the pain. Bullies use violent behaviors to harm their victims verbally and physically. Usually, the victim is too frightened to fight back and too embarrassed to inform adults. People choose to bully others for a broad range of reasons (media or the want for power), but not getting love and attention from dysfunctional families is the main reason ("Why do people bully?" n.d.). In the end, however, everyone experiences consequences. The bullies become lonely and violent while the victims suffer from depression. Family and societal issues have led many people to become aggressive and think that it is permissible to deliberately humiliate others; they will then gain an overwhelming power and a sense of autonomy from watching their victims' pain, which causes them to not realize the negative outcomes that they might encounter like loneliness, depression, and possibly even death.
Bullying is a very immoral behavior which leads to emotional and self-esteem issues to the target and in extreme or persistent cases it has been found to lead to suicide. The bullies should be well punished and counseled to stop the behavior.
People actually believe that words can 't harm you. There are even people that have faith that the victims even deserve it. "Bullying will make kids tougher", or "It 's only teasing", I 've actually heard those words before. There are ones who have the opinion that bullying doesn’t cause someone to take their own lives. They would say "Oh there was something else wrong with that kid other than bullying ' '. People tend to blame it on ' 'mental illness ' '. In fact, there is no scientific evidence that says, bullying causes suicide. That’s why several people believe that bullying doesn’t affect you. People also assume, that if you get harassed there is an explanation behind it, whether it 's what you wear, your skin color, you are a heavy person, or you are an outsider. If you are any of those things, you are most likely asking for it. Additionally, you have the society that doesn’t want to believe that they or their kids are being picked
Most of us have heard the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”. With today’s technology, that saying may no longer hold true. Studies show that in the past five years, online bullying has quadrupled (M. Ross, 3). The technology has given bullies a whole another proposal for their actions; virtual name-calling can have harsh effects on the security of kids and teens in today’s society. An online bully is someone who sends messages via technology, hides behind that keyboard and uses words or pictures to embarrass and bully their target.
The lack of parental attention causes a feeling of insecurity leading someone to acquit bullying. Unfortunately, adult role moles, parents, teachers, coaches, can build up tension in a student to generate them to bully. Students that are neglected, have divorced parents, or are around the influence of drugs/alcohol are more controlling and impulsive by nature. Those who have younger siblings are more suitable to bully in order to feel empowered. When children have an inadequate amount of supervision from a parent, they suppose they can get away with anything, like bullying. Bullying is more known in schools due to a student trying to fit in, and act “cool” in front of his or her classmates. A lot of people believe that in order to acknowledge power and popularity, you need to push the people around you to gain control. However, some children bully others because they used to once be a victim of bullying. Bullying can also arise from peer pressure through manipulation. On the other hand, bullies do not need a reason to hurt another, they seek fragile targets, and intensely desire attention. Also, bullies are not aware of their wrong behavior, and how gruesome it makes a person
