Joint Publication 1(JP 1) define Joint concepts as “examine military problems and propose solutions describing how the joint force, using military art and science, may operate to achieve strategic goals within the context of the anticipated future security environment. Joint concepts lead to military capabilities, both non-materiel and materiel, that significantly improve the ability of the joint force to overcome future challenges.” For future challenges, we can find some clues form the National Military Strategy of USA (NMS2015). The potential challenges include four plus one (Russia, Iran, North Korea and China plus violent extremist organizations (VEOs)) . It is an unprecedented strategic environment which need to fight different type …show more content…
However, budget constraints will be a trigger point to undermine the robust structure. Under the impact of budget constraints, the command and control (C2) will bear the brunt as a soft point to future joint force and the deficiency affect efficiency and effectiveness of current command structure. Without sufficient monetary support, each branch has to shrink the scale of troops, limited their equipment modernization or hinder the investment on new technology which are significant risk for future joint force operation. The deficiency will affect land domain warfare most because the complex strategic environment and limited budget force the commanders to fight a quick limited war rather than a lasting great war. The Air Force’s space and cyber capability will be the best solution to fulfill the deficiency through control the space and cyber domain make the limited force can focus on enemy’s center of gravity (COG) to achieve either strategic or operational goals (end states). The improvement of space and cyber capabilities also eliminate the boundary of geographic and service branch which underpin the joint force function in multi-domain …show more content…
It should not be a unilateral action by the US military because it must rely on allies’ support, especially in Asia-Pacific area. US troops count on military alliance (Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Australia) to overcome the obstacles of distances. Allies country as logistics center and supporting basis, together with US troops’ space, cyber, electronic warfare superiority as the leading, US can lunch a multi-level, multi-domain operations to disrupt the opponent's " A2/AD " combat
1. What do you think of when you drive by that big B-52 at the museum? Being the history buff that I am, I think about Vietnam, where that old “Buff” was used the most. “Why should I care about Vietnam?” you ask yourself. Well, last time I checked there’s a history section in the PFE guide, so there might be a test later! The intent of this paper is to inform you about Operation Linebacker II. I’ll explain the events leading up to the operation, discuss the strategy, and finally I’ll sum up the results of a bombing campaign Sir Michael Knight characterized In the book Strategic Offensive Air Operation as “...may have played a role not unlike two B-29s over Japan 27 years earlier”. (Knight: 77) I’ll start by explaining why President Richard Nixon gave the order to begin this new bombing campaign.
U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Doctrine for the Armed Forces of the United States, Joint Publication 1 (Washington DC: U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, March 25, 2013), V-17.
Following the Laws of Armed Conflict is something the United States has been circumventing, bending, and breaking with the increase of drone use (Killmister). Drones are currently operating at a rate never seen before and are revolutionizing the way the military operates. With changes in military tactics there are also expectations in terms of the way these new tactics are used. Loosely defined, the Laws of Armed conflict consist of the way nations at war shall conduct themselves, how neutral powers are to act, and how neutral and combative states are supposed to interact with one another (Lucas). This being said, it is debated whether or not the United States is interacting with neutral states in a...
This paper will not bore with the definition of a profession. The United States Army is about more than words, it is about action. The action of over 238 years of tradition and service. The Army is a profession. A profession requires its members to adhere to prolonged training and learn specialized skills. A member of a profession must wholly commit himself and his skills to a calling which is entrusted by the public. A profession provides its members with intrinsic value which motivates beyond financial gain. The Army is a higher calling which demands all of these qualities and more.
The United States of America is a powerful and well known force throughout the world. It has become a superpower of nations in just about three hundred years, being one of the newest nations in existence today. Its military reaches out into several countries in the globe and holds a presence as a peacekeeper and wielder of democracy. Of the US military’s five branches, the Air Force is the ruler of the skies, keeping control of the earth’s aerospace. Without the Air Force Special Operations, the military could not complete operations as effectively or efficiently as it potentially could. The United States Air Force is a key part of America’s mission to spread and assist democracy throughout the world.
In today’s operational environments, the U.S. Army is facing a range of problems and mission sets that are arguably more complex than previously encountered. Forces face an array of demands that encompass geo-political, social, cultural, and military factors that interact in unpredictable ways. The inherent complexity of today’s operations has underscored the need for the Army to expand beyond its traditional approach to operational planning. In March 2010 in FM 5-0: The Operations

...mains would fail to exist. Critical to advancing U.S. national interests is the ability to “achieve decision”, which is done solely through the land domain. Finally, irregular warfare is the most likely method of future conflict faced by the U.S. and control and influence of populations within the land domain is the only way to achieve victory. Therefore, it is clear that the land domain continues to remain front and center to the pursuit of U.S. national interests. Due to the recognized vital importance of the of the land domain, I recommend that the Army Chief of Staff, Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Commander of US Special Operations Command synchronize and implement strategic communications to ensure political and budgetary decision-makers are fully aware of the critical role that the land domain continues to play with regard to our national interests.
“Operational design is a journey of discovery, not a destination.” Operational design provides a framework, with the guidance of the Joint Force Commander (JFC), that staffs and planning groups can use to give political leaders, commanders, and warfighters a comprehensive understanding of the nature of the problems and objectives for which military forces will be committed, or are planned to be committed. Furthermore, operational design supports commanders and planners to make sense of complicated operational environments (often with ill-structured or wicked problems), helps to analyze wicked problem, and devise an operational approach to solve the problem in the context of the operational environment.
The Strengths and Weaknesses of Joint Warfare Armed with numerous studies, and intensive public hearings, Congress mandated far-reaching changes in DOD organization and responsibilities under the Goldwater-Nichols Department of Defense Reorganization Act of 1986. This landmark legislation significantly expanded the authority and responsibility of the chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. Included in this expanded authority and responsibility was the requirement for the chairman to develop a doctrine for the joint employment of armed forces. As operations Urgent Fury, Just Cause, and Desert Storm have vividly demonstrated, the realities of armed conflict in today's world make the integration of individual service capabilities a matter of success or failure, life or death. Furthermore, the operation Desert One demonstrated the need for a strengthened Joint Warfare Doctrine and the consequent change in Joint Warfare Employment.
The United States of America is one of the most powerful countries in the world. This power is a direct result of the careful planning of policies that will govern the direction that the country goes. An effective defense policy is very important in assuring the safety of the citizens in the country and assuring a commanding position within the international community. In accordance, it is important that the United States should adopt a defense policy, so that they seek to form a coalition of strong allies in which they are the sole superpower so that in essence, they may control the whole international community. Before being able to actively pursue this defense policy and act powerful, we must make ourselves powerful. In the process of making ourselves powerful, we must carefully examine the existing threats to the country and this power that we want to have.

The U.S Army Cyber Branch was created in September 2014, as one of the first official steps in establishing a seventeen-series career field specialty, dedicated to managing the careers and professional development of officers. Army Secretary John McHugh and Chief of Staff General Raymond Odierno approved the creation of the Cyber Branch in September 2014. The U.S. Army Cyber Commander capitalizes on existing U.S. Army cyber resources and improves operational readiness by organizing all cyber resources under a single command. The Network Enterprise Technology Command, the 9th Signal Command and the 1st Information Operations Command (Land) are subordinate units to the Army Cyber Command. Command
The United States (U.S.) should assume that for the near future it will exercise military power as a member of a multinational alliance or coalition, with interagency and intergovernmental partners. This is to emphasize that U.S. military, does not foresee itself conducting unilateral operations due to the realities of the future environment. This future strategic environment, better defined, as nothing but chaos, complexity and competition will drastically morph with indications of constant evolution; therefore, providing a rich environment for the use of all elements of national power and the requirement for Unified Action (UA). Considering the current and future conditions in the operational and strategic environment, the Joint, Interagency,
