Bruno Mars is one of the influential names in pop and R&B music. His use of interesting vocals and unique music techniques makes his music enjoyable. Listening to Doo-Wops & Hooligans I found that his music was very upbeat and always directed to one specific individual. Bruno Mars himself uses his unique personality in every aspect of his music, his album holds messages within each song and this leads to my overall enjoyment of the album.

The song Just the Way You Are has significant meaning behind it, it talks about a girl that he likes and how he likes every single aspect about her no matter what she thinks about herself. Common girls that listen to this song, makes them feel like he is personally singing towards them which helped many girls boost their self-esteem. The song is very ballad and he is very sentimental towards that special person. This song consists of many different instruments such as a piano, drums, hi hat cymbals, and a beat that is digitally created. Another song with a unique meaning behind it is Marry You. It is a unique love story that explains how he wants to marry this girl and how he is going to propose to her. The meaning behind this song is a girl’s dream of how she wants to be proposed to and what his ideas are. The song consists of many different instruments such as the drums, hand cymbals, triangle, hand clapping, bells. The song Runaway Baby is a very upbeat, ecstatic, and catchy song. As a first album you would not expect a person to do so well and win so many music awards, that is why it caught me off guard when I first listened to this album. The album was well composed and was very well thought out, which led him to become very successful on the release of his first album. As a first album, I expected it to be just okay and have maybe one hit song. I also expected it to be a one hit wonder and not a Grammy winner. My expectations were completely wrong and he completely did the opposite of what I expected him to do. I chose to listen to this album because it was something new and it was a genre that I started to get to like before him. So, I decided to give his album a chance and I wanted to see the different music styles he puts towards his songs.
Overall, I think Bruno Mars’ album Doo-Wops & Hooligans exceeded everything I expected of it. The fact that every song has its own message and creates a different appeal for the people listening to the song, such as myself. He used different techniques in all his songs to bring us in create an amazing

He’s been called everything from the “The Mayor,” to the “The G-Don” but anyone associated with entertainment here in New Jersey; specifically the Jersey Shore music scene, should know who Gordon Brown is. Whether you've heard about his major label accomplishments thru bands such as Mr. Reality or Highway 9, or you’ve spent an evening watching one of your favorite acoustic artist at The Count Basie theater or Monmouth University, he has affected your musical experiences thru his business savvy and compositional skills, helping to create new outlets for some of New Jerseys best performers while coming up with events such as Writers In The Raw and The Wave Gathering Music Festival.
While listening to album the lyrics are mostly about women, drugs, rebelling against parents and partying. The sound of the album from song to song is very...
His analysis of the video and song seem more akin to a movie critic’s review of the next Quentin Tarantino film. He comments, “the video...is daring, provocative, traumatizing, cynical,... and to many, a work of genius.” This jarring examination seems relatively out of place for a song in the number one spot on the radio. One could attribute this simply to shock value, but Molanphy sees (or hears) something more when he acknowledges, “When you focus on [the] music, you gradually adjust to what initially makes it so jarring, particularly the lurch from the the sweet, acoustic Afrobeat intro to the droning, brooding chorus.” Incidentally, the song is much more than Gambino’s “cri de coeur” as Molanphy puts it, as it stands alone as a legitimate piece of hip-hop music. Paired with the video, the dark commentary does not seem so out of place when you recognize the history of rap music and its influences. He recognizes this best when he uses ethos to increase his
...udience into creating a better society. In “Bitch Bad”, Fiasco spreads a message about the use of the vulgar word “bitch” and in “Strange Fruition”, he spreads a message on the practice of modern racism in our country. These are only two of the many songs where Fiasco is using his words to get a point across. With the strong messages he sends to his audience, Fiasco adequately represents the voice of Modern America.
The music of today has many songs in which there is a hidden meaning or stories behind the song. The song " Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and Pharrell is a song with a hidden meaning given much to talk about , another song which has a similar meaning with previous song is "You Do Not Even Know It " by Rick Ross. The intent of this paper is to compare song to song through its similar meaning. Both of these songs have a very rough meaning. These songs are inspired in hidden personalities , lies , appearances, violation , drugs , sex, etc. In " Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and Pharrell it talks about rape and sexual assault and all of these because of the use of alcohol and drugs. In "You Do Not Even Know It " by Rick Ross it also talks about how some people appearencess are not what they really are in
All music created has some kind of story behind it. It could be a bad story, good story, or even a complicated story. Every artist tells a story in their music that can relate to anyones life. Big Sean’s story on this album, Dark Sky Paradise talks about the bad and the good of paradise. The album has a lot of features from well known artist such as, Drake, Lil Wayne, Jhene Aiko and most importantly Kanye West because he started Sean’s career.
Songs are one way of expressing feelings and emotion, many artist do this constantly in their music. To some it is why they make music. There are endless signs and verses that hint at many things such as problems, politics, living in racist era’s also places. I chose to focus on one main rapper and his music only. I chose to examine, review, and study a few of his songs. Kid cudi grew up in cleveland, Ohio. His father passed away when he was a young age which affected the kid ever since. He writes about living his life and having to go through many obstacles
This shows that this is him and who he really is. People following his beliefs because he treated people equally and judged people equally. This is a big difference from him and other hip-hop artists.

I began to connect his upbrings in these sections. He also reminds the listeners that through coming together we can conquer all repeatedly. Though his album questions many situations that many seem sad and/or controversial, he constantly reminds listeners that the answer to all these hardships in the world will be better in the light of god. In many of songs, Marvin trails off into what resembles small sections of call-and- responses that are done in church sermons. Through extensive research we know that his love for music and origins of influence began as a young child of a Minister in a church, which have encompassed Marvin Gaye’s whole being into one album. I believe strongly that this album best represents his upbringings and influenced all in one which in turn wholly shapes and entails who the Marvin Pentz Gay Jr. truly
One of his most controversial songs came later in his career, it was titled “Jesus Walks,” many people didn’t want this song to be played but radios did it any way and so did MTV. There is one verse of the song that makes you appreciate his work:
Madonna stated “My God, he was so unique, so original, so rare. And there will never be anyone like him again.” And Whitney Houston hailed him as the greatest entertainer. He had a lot of influence on artist like Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and many more entertainers. His impact on them shaped the music we listen on a radio today and without him the fashion, music videos, and dances would be different. Beyoncé is popular today because of Michael Jackson. She stated “Michael taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on. If you feel silly, you have to go from the gut just let it go. Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am thank you Michael.” This is not the only artist he had an impact
The first girl mentioned is Lisa, she feels alone in the world, her mother is a drug addict and likes to bring many men home. The song talks about things in the beginning work out well, but later on in the night, the mom and the man end up fighting. The men beat Lisa and when Lisa tries to tell her mom, her mom does not believe her. Lisa’s story can specifically relate to marriage and family because she does grow up in a functional family. The mother is a drug addict and does not take care of her daughter, it is mentioned that there is no father because the mother brings home men every night. The fact that Lisa does not have a stable family and no one to look up to is affecting her life negatively. The men that her mother does bring home, abuse Lisa and mistreat her. Lisa is a nine year old girl, she is too young to be experiencing the things she does. There is probably no main income for her family either, and if her mom does get paid, she will probably use that money towards buying more drugs. This can relate to the poverty aspect because people who grow up in poverty cannot even afford to survive on minimum wage alone. Also the fact that Lisa’s mom is a single mother means that she is e...
Bruno Mars is an entertainment sensation that commands hundreds of dollars per ticket and in 2017 he began his 85 day World Tour 24K Magic (Kreps, 2017). This on top of the world star admits to feeling a little out of place with 21st century technology. Bruno’s talent, energy, and drive to make albums in a marketplace where songs aren’t even bought anymore but are offered by subscriptions on many different platforms, still make him one of the most popular and best pop artists in the world. Regardless of his savvy or lack of it for technology, he credits many great artists that paved the way as inspiration (CapitalFM, 2017).
