1. Summary
This report defines the activities of BT Group (British Telecom), including financial performance, i.e. statistics and balance sheets of the past five years. Showing considerable amount of evidence on how BT Group has evolved since its beginning.
Furthermore it includes an overview of how BT Group is structured in its various departments and the people involved in these departments. Before any of the previous information can be identified it is important that an understanding is gained of the history and activities of British Telecom from the beginning to its current position in the market.
1. Introduction
BT Group (British Telecom)
British Telecom, more recently known as BT Group plc (BT), is the dominant telecommunication provider in the United Kingdom and is alongside the biggest giants in Europe.
BT owns and operates a wide range of developments in the UK such as telephone exchanges, trunk networks and the local loop connections for a large amount of British fixed-line telephones. Currently BT is responsible for approximately 25 million telephone lines in the U.K. Although its primary focus is this country, BT still has services that reach worldwide clients and ventures that go as far as locations in Japan, Hong Kong, India, Latin America, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.
Fundamentals of British Telecom include the satisfaction of customers, financial discipline, and furthermore diverse skilled and motivated people working within the company itself.

AT&T, founded in 1983 has been one of the pioneering telecommunication multinational corporations with a diverse customer base. The company ventured into vertical integration in order to obtain the benefits of expansion and escalated its product offerings by manufacturing phones, launching satellites, devising switchable equipments and providing an range of customers numerous services. However, the integration led to an plethora of problems leading towards an ultimate failure.
Upon the acquisition and merger of legacy AT&T Wireless by Cingular Wireless and the solidification of SBC, BellSouth and Cingular Wireless, the New AT&T mobility business unit now leads in the current market share narrowly over Verizon Wireless.

AT&T had developed a reputation for providing high-quality long distance telephone services. It moved rapidly to exploit this reputation in the newly competitive long distance market by aggressively marketing its services against MCI, Sprint, and other carriers. Also, AT&T had traditional strengths in research and development with its Bell Labs subsidiary. These measures can be viewed through an analysis of a company’s financial statements, including the balance sheet and income statement. This paper will look at the status of Scholastic Company’s (Scholastic) ability to satisfy its long-term commitments and at the profitability of Daktronics, Inc. (Daktronics). This paper will include various financial ratio calculations and an analysis of the notable trends. It will also discuss the profitability and long-term borrowing positions of the firms discussed.
In 2007 and after the huge success of apple’s iPhone, Blackberry decided to diversify from the Enterprise market into a new market segment(consumer market) using its existing product(the business phones).
