Brazilian Architecture is very elegant and beautiful; I did not realize this until starting my research on Brazil. The oldest structure in Brazil is a pyramid, and yes I am talking about Brazil not Egypt. Contrary to what you make believe Brazilian pyramids were actually built several hundred years before Egyptian pyramids. The Brazilians and Egyptians had no contact at the time so these pyramids had to be built independently. These Brazilian pyramids were built in 3000 BC. Because there were no documentations at the time, it is unclear to which pyramid was built first. But we do know quite a bit about these thousands of pyramids on the Atlantic Coast of Southern Brazil. They were very large in size covering about 37 acres in area and approximately …show more content…
The architecture in Brazil also forms a major part of the character and identity for the different destinations in Brazil. Exploring Brazil’s architecture is a huge advantage because it reveals so much about the place. This is one of the reasons tourism is so big here. The Portuguese had an extreme impact on brazil architecture, because the Portuguese colonized Brazil centuries ago. Today there are not as many Portuguese style structures, but the few that are left have a very charming appeal. As of today, Brazil has taken a more modern approach on architecture. By taking this approach they are doing away with the decoration and excess frill and bringing in the functional form and clean lines. This modern architecture was not adopted until after World War II. Oscar Niemeyer is known as the world’s best modern architect. He is know for designing many structures, but I think the most elegant by far is, The National Congress of Brazil. It contains very symmetric buildings and clean lines. I’ve never seen a building that looks as this one does. Niemeyers goal with this structure was to display equality and balance, and it does a great job of doing so. Modernism is still a big influence on Brazil’s architecture, but baroque and neoclassical are as well now. I know Brazil is not a leading country for modern architecture but the structures they have are very …show more content…
For example something that was modern five years ago would not be considered modern now. Modern buildings are the most current and innovative buildings. As for this decade most green buildings are very modern. LEED certification started in 2007 in Brazil As I can not find clarification for one single building that is the greenest, I did find the first LEED gold certified building. This building is JK 1455, and it was certified in 2012. This building is located in Sãu Paulo, Brazil. This private building contains 13 floors and was constructed by Cyrela. As for the sustainable features of this buildings, it wanted to reduce energy consumption, reuse water for cooling towers, use minimal chemical products, and have greater efficiency in cleaning. Another LEED gold building is Rochavera Corporate Towers. This building was built by Método Engenharia. The goal for this building was to have environmental impact reduction, operational and maintenance cost reduction, a decrease in the use of non-renewable environmental resources, and an improvement in air quality inside the building. Both of these buildings are the only LEED gold certified buildings in Brazil. Brazil is fourth in the world with the most green
Because of the vast amount of Brazil’s resources, its history is veiled in European powers struggling to colonize the country. The last few centuries have been filled with the Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch fighting over the control of the land. However in the early 1700 the threat of outside European powers vanished and the colonization of the Portuguese was prominent. However, it wasn’t until the early 1800s that would lead to the nation of Brazil. As Napoeleon’s power spread across Europe, the Portu...
What is a pyramid used for? This is the question many people want to know. In this article I will answer this question and a few more related questions like: What is a pyramid, What is inside and why, and How does the structure compare to the structure of modern day buildings? These questions will all help solve the original question.
Throughout the years, technology has changed the way live. This has included the way we build magnificent buildings. Old wonders like the Pyramids at Giza have fascinated people for years. There is another building concept that has attracted people’s attention for ages as well, domes.
“Because of the rapid growth experienced by this country in terms of urban development, industrialization and population at the beginning of the 21st century, Brazil is facing a number of social, environmental and political challenges” (Meyer 2010). Over the years, Brazils infrastructure has been a topic of concern as the quality and quantity of growth seem to be lacking. One might be familiar with the recent 2016 Olympics in Rio and how many complaints were made about the unfinished quarters where people were staying and how the under developed the city
The Egyptian pyramids are ancient pyramid-shaped masonry structures located in Egypt. According to archaeological studies, ancient Egyptian Pyramids are the great work of the Old kingdom society that flourished in the Nile Valley after 3000 B.C. These are some of the mind blowing facts about the Ancient Egyptian Pyramids.
This huge statue was constructed beginning in 1921, and was completed in 1931. It was built in honor of the one hundredth anniversary of Brazil’s 1822 independence from Portugal. In 1500, the Portuguese landed in Brazil and claimed it as their territory. In the early 1800’s, Prince Dom Pedro of Brazil “ fell in love with Brazil” (“History”). Even after he became king of Portugal, he continued to live there. According to “this made Brazil the only New World colony to ever have a European monarch ruling on its soil” (“History”). In 1822, he declared Brazil an independant country.
Brazilian heritage was founded on the native people that lived in the country before its colonization, the colonizers that immigrated to the country, and the slaves that were brought. Brazil has the second largest African population in the world, so its heritage also has some African culture.
Brazil is a diverse and enormous country. There are large, medium and small sized aities that stretch from coast. From Brazilian cit...
A green building (also referred to as sustainable building or green construction) is a structure that employs an approach that is responsible for the environment besides being efficient in regard to resources all through its life cycle: This is from selecting the site to designing it, constructing, operating, maintaining, renovating and demolishing it. To achieve this, the client, the engineers, the architects and the entire design team closely cooperate at all stages of a project (Yan and Paliniotis, 2006). Practicing Green Building complements and expands the conventional building design areas of comfort, durability, utility and economy.
The Great pyramids of Egypt are undoubtedly one of the most recognized and admired landmarks in the world. Built to pay tribute to gods and pharaohs, the pyramids were of great importance to the Egyptians, and the mystery of their construction continues to amaze us today. Many theories pertaining to how the pyramids were built have been suggested, however, none are as well supported or intelligible as the heave-ho method of quarrying and cutting limestone. Joseph Davidovits’ theory disproving this, in which states the pyramids were moulded, is not plausible. Substantial physical evidence which is consistent with the Egyptologists’ portrayal of the heave-ho method has been found. The entire process of building a pyramid with this method is possible, as demonstrated by thorough experiments and analysis of the Egyptian culture. Indisputably, the Great Pyramids of Giza were constructed by quarrying limestone, and the use of ramps, sleds, and cutting tools, owing to the ingenuity and strength of highly organized Egyptian workers.
Another alternative that emerged by the increasing practice of eco-friendly spaces is the LEED certification by the US Green Building Council. This certification is a demanding and rigorous program, which is constantly evaluated and incorporates new concepts periodically, mainly based on the new technologies that have arisen and the studies that have been carried out on green buildings that have been operating for several years.
The beginnings of today's green revolution can be traced back to the environmental awareness of the 1960s and European design. New construction techniques have lead to the development of innovative materials and design concepts. Green buildings are designed, constructed and commissioned to ensure they are healthy for their occupants. Successfully designed green projects can involve an extensive array of factors, ranging from the resourceful use of materials, to careful consideration of function, climate, and location.
Green Building may be defined as the processes of planning, designing, constructing and operating a building, while taking into consideration: the quality of the indoor environment, selection of the materials used, the way of using energy and water and the effect of the building on the site.
One of the greatest cultural successes of Ancient Egypt was certainly in their architecture related with religion. Fumeaux mention, "Temples, tombs and pyramids - all have witnessed this earth for thousands of years. What better than to say that these architectural achievements show us that Egypt's greatest virtue lay in its architecture"[1]
The pyramids of Egypt are fascinating, however, they remain to be a mystery. The well-built architecture is located in Giza, Egypt, on the west bank of the Nile River. The pyramids of Egypt are the oldest and only surviving member of ancient wonders. It is also the pride and one of the most important factors in Egyptian culture.
