The 2010 BP oil spill ultimately affected both people and the environment, polluting and damaging large areas and vast populations of wildlife. The BP oil spill caused took a toll on marine life, human life, and the economy, including the fishing and tourism industry in the Gulf of Mexico. Many factors such as Petroleum toxicity, oxygen depletion, and much more can be viewed as the major sources of the disaster which led to the negative impact on wildlife. It is very clear that an oil spill is recognized to be a disaster for both for people and the environment, any tragedy of this scale would clearly bring forth regulations that will attempt to prohibit the same calamity from happening again.
In the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement was replaced by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and Bureau of Safety Environmental Enforcement. This new organization along with OSHA changed the way the offshore drilling is conducted. Today there are several regulations in place that were not in place at the time of the oil spill. OSHA focused a lot of resources on ensuring that BP and its contractors offered safe working conditions for thousands of employees involved in the response. It was no surprise that Federal personnel visited worksites daily, identifying hazards and means of abatement; they assessed training and programs to ensure that workers were well trained in languages they could understand (Robyn, 2011). The strict oversight that was conducted after the BP oil tragedy, helped set the tone for safe work practices nationwide and has improved working conditions for many employees around the
