Boron: The Best Choice in Alternative Fuel
With the way the environment is looking these days it seems that it may be a good idea to raise the price of gasoline by one dollar. With growing concerns about pollution and other toxins in the atmosphere, the industry is forced to look into alternate forms of fuel. This extra tax on gasoline could aid in funding their research. Currently research is being performed on the element boron. It has been found to be more efficient and a generally safer fuel than gasoline.
In the past scientists have been looking into solar and electrically powered vehicles to aid in the reduction of pollutants. Only recently has boron been introduced as another feasible alternative fuel. This alternative to gasoline is extremely combustible, and when burned there are no emissions or harmful pollutants. Also, it's easy to dispose of and has an extremely high energy density (Young 1). This little known element has become more recognized for its unique properties.
Discovered in 1808 by J.L. Gay-Lussac and L.J. Thenard in Paris, France, and Sir Humphry Davy in London, England, boron is element number five on the Periodic Table of the Elements. The name "boron" comes from the Arabic "buraq" (pronounced borax). The actual element boron is not commonly used, but compounds of boron are very common. These compounds can be found in such household items as detergent. Boron is also used in Pyrex glass, which makes the glass more heat resistant. Boron is also an essential mineral for plants and animals, although it can be toxic in large quantities (Chemsoc 1). Boron has many common uses, but there are also many advantages to using it as and alternative form of fuel.

...f the extra money from the increase in gasoline prices was invested in boron-powered cars, I'm sure they wouldn't disappoint.

Gasoline is one of the many conversation starters anywhere you go. People have different opinions on why gasoline prices are fluctuating at such a rapid pace. Some Americans have chosen a way of thinking towards the prices. Whether it be making up rumors or just plainly trash talking towards our government. You make ask yourself the same questions many economist do, why has the price of oil been dropping so fast?
...oline is affected by many different factors. The biggest factor is crude oil, but the supply and demand of crude oil will ultimately determine the price of gasoline. The supply and demand of crude oil and gasoline are also affected by several factors. The price is continually increasing and the supply is becoming harder to produce and deliver. So it seems we, the United States, need to find a way to slow down our fuel consumption and decrease our demand. This may be the only way to bring down the price of gasoline. I know I would not mind, because then I could use the extra $40 to buy a couple more DVDs for the kids to watch while we are running around town in the Expedition.
Fuel prices is an area of concern for the motor carrier industry. Fuel prices are at an all-time high, driving the industry to make drastic changes. Individuals in the industry believe that by reducing the demand for fuel is the best way to address the current fuel issue. One of the leading alternatives to this fuel issue could be natural gas.
The first experience of watching a ballet, for me or any little girl, can be fascinating and exhilarating. Wondering how a dancer can be so steady on her toes as she spins in circles and leaps through the air. Watching a ballet, there is a feeling of wanting to be graceful, as well as the warm sensation felt by a little girl as she slips into dream land. My mom had taken me to my first ballet when I was 11 years old. When we returned home home, she signed me up for classes at the local dance center. The expectations to become a prima ballerina would involve much hard work and concentration. I knew when I started it would take years of steady practice and commitment. Learning the history of ballet and the famous dancers made me intrigued. I wanted to be like them. So I had set the goal, then I set the pace. To my misfortune I was unable to reach my goal. Gymnastics was another activity I enjoyed. I was unaware of the damage I was doing to my body until I found myself in a hospital bed being told by the doctors, no more dancing. I could no longer practice ballet, I could only watch. I have no regrets. Watching a ballet is just as much fun.
Struggling during the first years of learning ballet gave me strength and understanding as a person and I am more mature from the experience. I will be forever grateful for the experience of learning ballet because through that art, I am now strong in mind, strong in body, and strong in
Manovich explains how in the beginning of cinema, the cultural impact cinema had could not be foreseen. Because if this, the transformation and impact was not recorded systematically. With the rise of cinema, a new artistic language was born: cinematography. Even though Manovich criticizes that it was not recorded, we need a form of hindsight to see its importance and its consequences before being able to make an educated judgement about cinematography which will shape the recording of it. Manovich tries to provide “a potential map of what the field could be” (ibid, pg.11) back in 2001. I think that not enough time has passed for him to do so, however he provides a theory that can be built on. He centres his argument on c...
The article by Mike Moffatt shows the price elasticity of demand for gasoline. According to Molly Espey the average price elasticity of demand for gasoline in the short- run is-0.26 and -0.58 In the long-run, which is a 10% raise in the price of gasoline lowers quantity demanded by 2.6% in the short- run and 5.8% in the long- run. Also, there are a studies were conducted by Phil Goodwin, Joyce Dargay and Mark Hanly at review of income and price elastics in the demand for road traffic and each of them has different study. Furthermore, the realized elasticities depend on factors such as the timeframe and locations that the study covers. If the gas taxes will rise, will cause consumption to decrease.
After reading the article “The Myth of Total Cinema” by Andre Bazin, it opens the discussion of the origins of cinema whether to consider the economic and technical evolution impacted inventor’s imagination causing fortunate accidents that created a phenomenon in cinema. However, this leads inventors to compete with each other over techniques of bringing their imagination to reality but, all agreed that cinema needed to be transparent, flexible, and have a resistant base that was capable of capturing an image instantly.
According to Flipped Classroom – The Results 85% of students that have a flipped classroom have seen their grades improve (Flipped Classroom – The Results). Having a flipped classroom is doing homework in class and watching videos at home. The videos are based off lessons that are made by the teachers. While the students watch the videos they take notes or after do an activity that goes along with it. A traditional classroom is doing the lessons in class and doing homework at home. Having a flipped classroom helps students academically because they can learn at their own pace, provides more resources, and grades will improve.

Although the author does not claim increased learning compared with the traditional classroom, students’ feedback suggests that the flipped classroom approach was more effective than listening to an in-class lecture. In the area of methodology, literature has shown that the most prominent studies on flipped classroom used quasi-experimental approach of the pretest-posttest method (Fulton, 2012; Hamdan, McKnight, McKnight, & Arfstorm, 2013; Strayer, 2012; Bergmann and Sams, 2012; Acton & Knorr, 2013; Roach, 2013; Tucker, 2012; Reeve, 2013 and Rozinab, & Siti, 2014). This informs the choice of the method used in this
Flipped classroom are a new teaching style that many educators are advocating for the use of this non- traditional teaching style. Things You Should Know about Flipped Classrooms, published in 2012, make’s the clear argument of why flipped classrooms can work. “The value of a flipped class is in the repurposing of class time into a workshop where students can inquire about lecture content, test their skills in applying knowledge, and interact with one another in hands-on activities”(1). Through utilizing the internet and completely re-writing the traditional school day entirely. Homework would be completely prerecorded lectures, accessed by the internet, and class time would be devoted to applying the knowledge they learned the night before. Flipped classroom rely on students having access to the internet at home, which is unrealistic because many people do not have equal access to the internet at
In the 1950’s there was an emergence of new film practices. It started with the introduction of the French New Wave Cinema. A group of filmmakers who wanted to start creating films that were different than the classic Hollywood Cinema. Andre Bazin was one of these filmmakers, and he started a seri...
There are numerous conditions that a fuel has to meet before it is fit for powering a vehicle. The fuel has to deliver sufficient energy, be produced sustainably, meet high quality standards to fit the technological demands of modern propulsion systems, be widely available and transportable, to name a few important criteria. Hence, at this point of time no one c...
