The book, I will be writing about is The Bully by Paul Langand. I am done with the book which explains about a boy moving to California. The cover reminds me about kids fighting. I wanted to get a deep comprehension throughout the story. I choose this book for children have been facing everyday day. The story is about a 15 years old boy, name Darrell, who lives in Philadelphia with his mom. He had a best friend named Mark who use to help him when he was in trouble and had a fight. During that moment Darrell's mom had a great job in California better than Philadelphia, so both had to move to that place. One thing Darrell were scared and sad when they move to new fresh environment was that people bullied him. He imagines not having
a friend to be supported. The major point of the story was that the boy knew it wasn't a good idea to move to California. When he were in California the neighborhood, where unfamiliar by not knowing anyone. When Darrell went to the store affront of his house, he meets a girl named Amberlynn which studies at the same school as him which was a Bluford high school. However, Tyray was bullying Darrell on the first day of class. Tyray wanted Darrell to give him money every Friday, but he decided to talk to his best friend Amberlynn. When Darrell was in the English class, he observe Tyray and were frustrated on not wanting to come to school. Although, Amberlynn were in the same class and made him more comfortable. It say's “man, that boy looks like he should join the wrestling team. He could be the practice dummy,” someone whispered nearby. A few kids laughed”. This means that a children need to do exercise to be strong. I like this part because you can keep on trying until you get better at it you can succeed. My favorite part was when Darrell wrestled and at first he could beat it. The second game he won by increasing more points. Finally, wrestling pay off a lot from him beating Tyray. The emotion that impacts me was when the kids in Darrell school were judging him about his height. Throughout the book, this made myself think how he was feeling and nobody doing anything about the situation. I felt that neither Darrell's mom went to school and check on him to see how her son was doing. The main conflict is when Tyray started to bully Darrell when Darrell went for the first time to Bluford high. Another one was when Tyray smashed the orange from Darrell. The mood can be aggravated and sad at the same time since Darrell never like living in California. He say's “I hate living here, it's nothing like Philadelphia”. This explains the action of a boy not getting used to the environment. In the book, the author makes sure the reader understands the issue and make a connection to their lives. At the end he feels that he has accomplished what he wanted and be brave. He was brave to not let Tyray bully him any more by letting him know that I won't give you money. In conclusion, I found particularly satisfying to imagine the way, Jermaine and Tyray was not speaking to him and having a fight during wrestling time. Finally, Darrell stood up and said I will not give his mother a hard time by wasting all of her money for something wrong a student did.
The book that I chose to do is Street Pharm by Allison van Diepen, the book has 297 pages, the reason I chose this book is personally I am tired novels taking place years before I am born. This novel pertains to urban problems and one kids' attempt to survive in the pressures of present day Brooklyn. Within the novel, there are several subplots, one being his love interest, Alyse, and Ty's fight to stay in school. As well as, his fight not to lose money or control of his territory. It is interesting to watch this young man, balance these things in his life and not let them interfere with each other.
Jack grow up at a farm that had a lot of cow’s. Everyday he had to milk the cows. He was more of the calm and nice type he really didn’t like talking to that many people at school . He always got good grades until Joseph came into his life. When Joseph came he would get in trouble in school sometimes. One of Jack's teachers told him that he needs to stop hanging out with Joseph. Jack’s response was no because he is my brother. A couple of weeks after that Joseph got into a fight with an 8th grader but Jack is in 6th grade. Jack decided to stick up for his brother and jump in and the both beat the 8th grader up. After that they go called to the principal office and she was very disappointed. Both of them ended up getting suspended and there parents were very disappointed. After those actions that took place Jack decided to be back to his old self.
When you look in the mirror you see your imperfections. You see your perceived flaws; things that nobody else recognizes about you and you think that there has to be some way to change it. In today’s world, society places impossible standards on the way you’re supposed to look and recently young American males in their teen age years have become increasingly self-conscious about their physical appearance. In the article “The Troubled Life of Boys; The Bully in the Mirror” author Stephen Hall investigates the changes and causes of the increase in males becoming concerned with wanting to be more muscular.
During a scene, Kenny is reaching out to his brother is when mysteriously, Larry the bully “has stolen Kenny’s gloves and Byron attacks the boy. “Right away you begin to feel sorry for Larry Dunn because he’s this poor kid who’s got no more than a windbreaker in the winter, and his tennis shoes have cardboard in them” (Curtis and Morgan 203). Once Byron attains the gloves he urges on for Kenny to hit Larry, yet Kenny is not up to violence. Kenny regrets telling his brother to help him because he takes it a step further fighting the less fortunate kid, Larry Dunn. Fighting at school is not something to be proud of, yet Byron did not have any remorse. “African-American boys are more likely to be punished for misbehavior at school (Gregory,
The book I chose to do my book report on is "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich". The book is about the most forceful indictments of political oppression in the Stalin era Soviet Union. It is a captiving story about the life in a Siberian labor camp, related to the point of view of Ivan Denisovich, a prisoner. It takes place in a span of one day, "from dawn till dusk" (pg. 111) . This book also describes his struggles and emotional stress that he must going through.
Today client number 9302015 came into the Salinas County Psychology Center. His name was Joe Martin also known as Curley. Joe is 40 years old and married. He is also financially stable. His social and family history doesn't have a lot of background because he refused to tell me lots about it. Since he is mean and angry towards others he said that he doesn't have much of a family except for his dad who really isn't around him very much. He has a wife, but he doesn't really care for her. He said he tells her to stay in the house and not to interact with others. When he was questioned why, he remained silent. His background on his medical and mental health history has more information when we discussed this topic. He
In the story “A Poetics for Bullies” written by Stanley Elkin, a young boy nicknamed Push recieves his enjoyment from torturing the school kids. From controlling kids on playgrounds to attempting to control the new kid on the block by the name of John Williams. John Williams then comes in and displays an alternative way of getting everyone to do what he wants. Ultimately, Push should be looked at as the better person because he knew exactly who he was and refused to change for anybody, on the other hand John Williams offered help regarding different issues the kids had to get them to follow him instead of Push. The entire story seems to be a fight for control. Push and John should be looked at equally concerning the way they acted; it does not matter in what ways they manipulated the person, it still was wrong.
Bart Rangely is a 13-year-old boy who attends Baileywell Preparatory Academy in his eighth grade year. I believe that Bart is not so physically appealing because he is jealous of the students' good looks. I can assume that Bart is a sensitive and understanding person based on his time with Nola. Tyro is a thin, tall, and blond boy in his junior year who is assigned as Bart's "Big Brother." He instead bullies Bart. Tyro has demonstrated that he is aggressive, abusive, and cruel because of his actions towards Bart. Nola is a 10-year-old girl who has spent most of her time in the Intensive Care Unit because of a disease she has. Nola has yellowish skin because of her disease and clear blue eyes. Nola is a clever, spirited, and unique girl who can understand how other people feel.
The author is David Lubar, and the title is Hidden Talents. And the overall summary of the story is that it takes place in the modern times in a school named Edgeview Alternative School, and the main character is a boy named Martin Anderson, age thirteen, and in grade eight. Edgeview is a school for students who have problems, like anger tantrums or something like that. Martin was expelled from more than three schools and he talked back a lot, so he got transferred to Edgeview. He meets his principal named Principal Davis, his new roommate Torchie and some new friends, named Cheater, Lucky, Trash, and Flinch. They also have bullies at their school, but the main bully is named Bloodbath and he greets new students by beating them
“Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year.” This fact from “11 Facts About Bullying” is shocking yet not at the same time. Growing up in Catholic schools and community some might say that I was sheltered more than most other children would be. I would not disagree with that at all. Although I’ve lived my life in a polo and skirt, that does not mean bullying doesn’t exist. In private school there is some bullying but not to the extent as in Poison Ivy, the YA novel by Amy Goldman Koss. The novel is a story of a young girl named Ivy sues the three more popular girls in school for bullying her and her American Government class sets up a “trail” to sue these teenage bullies. At Saint Thomas there is some similar and yet some
The concept of standing up for myself had been something I’d put off many years after becoming a bully victim, but it wasn’t until the death of my friend Samuel that the reality of the issue arose.
For my book I chose to read The Body by Stephen King. This novel is about four young boys taking a journey to find a body somewhere in the woods that is at the county line. This story is about more than just four boys going on an adventure its about them becoming closer to each other and learning real life lessons along the way. The four boys are all going into their first year of middle school so this is a time in their life when they learn things that will help them in life.
Bullying is a problem we all experience at some point in our lives. This problem has been made even worse by ease and availability of the internet. Nowadays, you can bully another child from the comfort of your own home. Many programs utilizing different methods have been in progress to combat this issue. One of those methods is empathy and the non-profit organization No Bully hopes to cultivate that empathy in students nationally, and internationally to stop this crisis.
In the article “The Bully” by Roger Dean Kiser, it talks about how Roger was bullied by Tony, and how at the end they met and how Roger treated Tony. The first trait is Polite. This quote will show how Roger talked to Tony when he saw him, “He raised his hand and waved at me. I smiled, returned the wave and turned back around and began to eat my breakfast.” This quote shows how Roger treated Tony and how he acted when he saw him. The way that Roger waved to Tony it was really polite because if it was another person then they would’ve just turned their back and not waved, or they would’ve gone to him and say what he did back then and how they felt because of what he did it to them. Not many human beings are like Roger, they can never be polite
It only takes one bad experience to change your opinion on something. Imagine if you went through this same bad experience for months, or better yet years. Your whole personality, how you view yourself, and others changes drastically. This is what it feels like to be bullied. Bullying is a serious issue in America, especially among children and young adults. From kindergarten all the way up until my sophomore year of high school, I was a victim of bullying. Being bullied changed how I viewed myself and others, what my values and morals were, and it shaped me into the person I am today.
