Body Image Part A: Society and body image a) Body image is your personal opinion of what you think of yourself, whether it’s a bad view or good. a) Three different factors that influence teenager’s bodies are: - Famous role models: famous people are seen as tall, thin & perfect people. Teenagers aspire to be these people, even if that means people change how they look/act to be more like them. - TV ads/ advertisements: people in TV ads are always betrayed as beautiful people. Even if they are showing exercising equipment ads they are using tall and fit people to sell the product not fat and unhealthy people. The only time you see people at their worst is on shows like ‘The Biggest Loser’ etc. - Family: some people grow up in a household …show more content…

Part B: Health concerns associated with body image a) Three types of eating disorders are: - Anorexia- A fear of being obese and to have a desire to loose weight by refusing to eat food. - Bulimia- a disorder in which you have the desire to loose large amounts of weight by binge eating, this is followed by self-inflicted vomiting or purging. - Binge Eating Disorder- random episodes of binge eating, in which they consume large amounts of food in short amounts of time. b) Effects to sufferer and family/ friends: These eating disorders don’t only effect the person who has the disorder but the families involved. These families have to go through the emotional sides of the disorders and remain positive. This can actually effect the family’s social and emotional state. The person that suffers the condition may have an obsessive body image, low self-esteem and lack of confidents.
