Out of the many technologies being developed in the 21st century I have a major interest in assisting in the development of new full-body ballistic armor. The need for a lightweight, highly mobile, and effective body armor for military and law enforcement agencies has existed and continually increased through time. DARPA now has programs dedicated to producing such body armor and has made great advances in this area. This concept’s goal is to reduce the individual’s fatigue by removing the weight associated with traditional materials used in body armor while greatly increasing the surface area protected. I could be placed in combat scenarios where this technology has the potential to benefit me. More importantly it may benefit those I work with and my friends that I will serve with. Those benefits also benefit their families who ultimately pay much more sacrifice to our nation than I believe I ever will. The training that I have received while attending school has been heavily involved in preparations for combat activities. In the group I train with we regularly wear body armor for safety and to train how we may one day fight. We have studied and personally learned of the limitations that ceramic hard plate body armor (standard US Military equipment) during our intensive training. Here at home SWAT officers are able to wear additional body armor since in most cases they are not wearing this armor on patrol and for long periods of time. In combat this is not the case since additional armor adds a significant amount of weight. When patrolling on foot for days at a time or clearing house after house carrying other equipment such as food, water, ammunition, communication gear, medical gear, and weapons that additional weight from armor is not desirable. The troops experience a great deal of fatigue, this fatigue then effects judgment and ability to fight which endangers their lives, their collages lives, and the lives of innocent people in the area. Once detection is made the fabric in the area of impact would become extremely rigid to prevent penetration and the energy would be spread over a large area of the person. The technology is not yet in existence to make this possible on the individual user’s scale. Another idea is to use a material with a type of fluid bladder within. When an incoming object is detected the area being targeted will receive fluid from a small reservoir will be sent to that area. The result is a fluid barrier that would absorb the energy of the impact and prevent penetration. This system is often compared to being akin to the airbags in vehicles. These two systems are similar in operating principle but utilize different technologies to accomplish the goal. The advantage of using these was lower wear rates than those observed using polymers and metals. When frontal collision occurs, due to the kinetic energy of driver or occupant body, it moves forward against steering wheel and wind shield. Because physics are the root cause of concussions, it follows that understanding the effects of the forces of an impact on the brain will lead to allowing us to more easily diagnose concussions. Unfortunately the issue with opening someone's head on the field to examine the effects of an impact is rather lethal. That said, scientists and engineers are working on solutions. Stanford University is one such example of a project using accelerometers to learn more about the impacts that cause concussions. With these accelerometers Stanford has discovered some very hard hits. One was measured at 150 Gs. The speed of rotation was 2000 degrees per second. Without the crucial effective materials that make up of body armor, in order to protect officers against all sorts of handguns, knives, and blunt trauma, the body armor would be ineffective. The ballistic panels that are used in bulletproof vest can be made up of different materials, depending on the manufacturer. Body armor is put up to certain test before being able to be sold, therefore, the different materials should all provide the same minimum levels of protection. In 1784, someone using a flintlock pistol shot Edward Culshaw. In those days, there were no bullets, as we know them. Gunpowder and a ball of lead were put into the gun’s muzzle and packed with paper wadding. A spark made when the gun’s hammer struck some flint at the back end of the barrel ignited the powder. When the constable examined Culshaw’s wound, he found a piece of newspaper used as wadding to pack the powder in the killer’s gun. The prime suspect in the killing was a man named John Toms. When a piece of newspaper found in Toms’ pocket was compared with the piece found in the wound, the pieces fit together like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. That is why you need some better protection. Something that scare the attacker and alarm the people or the police patrolling nearby. Now some may say that a personal alarm is useless because it can't actually stop the threat. It is true that a personal alarm actually can't stop the attacker, but my point is three-fold. First, it is the perfect complement to any choice of weapon with offensive power (stun gun, pepper spray or any such thing). Second, it will alarm people around you and third, it will stop actual confrontation for most of the time.

It varies as a result of differences in body density and degree of obesity. Basically body composition describes the percentages of fat, bone, and muscle in a persons body. The percentages of body fat a person has determines their overall health and fitness when compared to factors like age, weight, and sex. Body composition also contributes to a persons overall appearance. A healthy male should have about12 to 18 percent of fat. Females should have around 14 to 20 percent. Any thing over or under these percentages would be considered unhealthy.The term's weight and fat are usually used in the same context when discussing physical fitness. Under certain circumstances, being overweight doesn't mean that a person is unhealthy. A person could be in good physical shape but considered overweight because they have excess muscle. People with a lot of muscle mass usually have body weight, which is disproportional to their height. Having a high percentage of fat is unhealthy because it can cause heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.It is important to know your body fat percentage because it can help you put together a realistic exercise program with goals that are attainable. A good exercise program incorporates both aerobic exercises, which burn fat and anaerobic exercises, which build muscle. It is healthier to turn fat into muscle instead of just trying to loose weight without thinking about gaining strength. The best way for a person to change his or her body composition is to improve their fitness levels. Fitness has different meanings to different people. Some people define fitness as having a small waistline. Other people may feel that fitness is the ability to bench-press their body weight ten times.
