In 1938 a young man was approached by a company called National Allied Publications to create another caped super hero to compete with their already very popular hero called Superman. This young man was Bob Kane. If that name looks or sounds familiar to you, well it is because he has been credited as the lone creator of the Batman. His name has been plastered over anything and everything that ever involved Batman. Giving Bob Kane the title of the sole creator of Batman is quite the slap in the face to the comics industry and even more so to one man in particular. Many so called “creators” would say so. A young Bob Kane went home one night and drew a crude sketch of a character wearing bright red tights, bright blonde hair with a big smile, a domino mask, and giant mechanical wings similar in design to the early sketches of Leonardo Da Vinci’s’ ornithopter and put the words “The Bat-man” on the top of the page. When Kane couldn’t figure out where to go from there, he enlisted the help of his friend Bill Finger. Finger came up with all the ideas and the look of the character we all know and love today. So why won’t DC comics give the Finger name what it deserves? A simple case of greed and legal technicalities keeps the Finger name from having any real legacy. It can be traced back to when the creators of superman Jerry Siegel and Joel Schuster sold their character for mere pocket change. Once the character gained massive popularity they wanted to be compensated for their work and receive royalties and benefits such as healthcare, they started preparing a legal attack to get their fair share. Kane caught wind of this and told the company executives allowing them proper time to prepare their case and fix any loose ends with the rights causing the Creators of Superman to lose the trial. Kane, was rewarded by having his name officially credited with being the sole creator of Batman and receiving a small amount of royalties for all the years to come. Finger has few living relatives but over the last few years, his Granddaughter has fought alongside many people to get her grandfather the credit he deserves. When asked about the issue, DC comics always give a short response in saying that things like “We have a good relationship with the Finger
