Dogs are humanity’s best friend and each breed has a unique story to their origins. Bloodhounds are named so after a quote in a fairy tale. Miniature Pinschers are from Germany and have not been bred-down. A Labrador Retriever impressed an Earl when he first saw one and he bought a whole family of the dogs. “Fee fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an English man” was stated by the giant in “Jack and the Beanstalk” and this quote is where the Bloodhounds received their namesake. However, this is a misnomer as bloodhounds cannot smell one’s blood and they are very gentle creatures. The Bloodhounds, also known as a St. Hubert Hound are famous for their tenaciousness when following a scent, be it man or animal, and have been known to have followed
Dog has been “man’s best friend” for ages. Around Franklin County, almost everyone owns a dog. Since many owners are farmers, people in the Franklin County area need a dog who will be loyal, can herd livestock if need be, and is obedient to its master. The best breed of dog that fits this description is the Blue Heeler, also known as the Australian Cattle Dog. Though these dogs are better suited for the rural areas, many people in the city own them as well. Sprightly yet independent, the Australian Cattle Dogs are great companions for single people and families alike. Blue Heelers are the all-around best breed of dog in Franklin County.
A dog is just that, a dog, until someone comes along and makes it into a monster. A dog may be bred to do something, and can be trained to do an entirely different thing. For example, pit bulls have been bred to be nanny dogs. They are supposed to protect babies and ultimately care for them like they would their own pups. Some people have taken this instinct and turned it into something horrid.
In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, blood gives the boys feelings of power and control through violence. For instance, after the hunters successfully kill a pig, Jack “giggled and flicked them [his hands] while the boys laughed at his reeking palms. Then Jack grabbed Maurice and rubbed the stuff [blood] over his cheeks” (135). Maurice is not a leader on the island and he is entirely comfortable with being a follower and not making decisions for himself. Jack, on the other hand, has more power in island politics and Maurice could arguably be his subordinate; therefore, the smearing of the blood over Maurice’s face is Jack demonstrating his control over him. Another example of the use of blood as a symbol of control is when a lightning storm
Are these dogs misunderstood? In reality a dog is a reflection of its human, they see you as a pack leader they are who you raise them to be no matter the breed. If you neglect your puppy by chaining them up outside their whole life or keep them in
Everyone should have heard this phrase that dog is man’s best friend. We live with them, love them, and take good care of them. When people talk about dog breed, the advantages and disadvantages of purebred dogs is always a controversial issue. Lots of people like purebred dogs because they are beautiful and cute; some people prefer crossbred dogs because they believe purebred dogs usually have genetic disease. Indeed, many evidence and research show that purebred dogs are easier to have genetic disease, and many purebred dogs die from incurable genetic disease every year. However, people still do not pay highly attendant to this problem. Even though purebred dogs are pretty, cute and inherited pure blood compared with the mixed-breed dogs, people should not excessively breed purebred dogs in order to satisfy our desire because a lot of them suffer serious genetic disease, are abandoned on the streets and performed euthanasia in shelters.
Background and rationale: Dogs as a man’s best friend has been a prevalent view point among modern day humans, and some even accept it as fact. However, the genetics behind what makes dogs so compatible with mankind, and the history of domestication are not well known to most. The time of divergence, and geographic origin of dog domestication has been greatly debated, though many firmly believe they are of Asian origin (research article). Many researchers have studied the effects of breeding programs on genetics (pure breed), however the genetics behind initial domestication of dogs from wild wolves has not been well studied. The three following publications focus on these areas, and most show similar findings.
There are many theories’ that dog got evolved by the grey wolf but current resources say that dogs. The PLoS (is an open access peer-reviewed academic journal published monthly by PLOS Genetics) say that dogs may have not evolved by the grey wolf or least not the grey wolfs that we have living up in our northern forest. One possibility is there may have been other wolf lineages that these dogs diverged from that, then went extinct. But there
Dogs are common throughout the world, either as a domestic pet, a protector on a farm, or an assistant for hunting amongst others. Regardless of the reason for having a dog, most people have either owned one for themselves or have known somebody who has owned one at some point in their life. Despite the relative normality of having a dog in your life in one way or another, the reasons for dogs coming into existence are not common knowledge among most people. Throughout a great portion of mankind’s history, dogs have been an essential part of life. The truth is, dogs were actually created in part by man.
There are many breeds of dogs to choose from some of the most common are golden retriever, German shepherd, and Labrador retriever. Many people can pick almost any breed they are looking for though. The common breeds I pointed out are used because of their intelligence, willingness to work, and their mobility. The dogs that help are really filling a hole that these people have.
Dog discrimination dates back into the beginning of the 19th century. It all started mainly because of mass media. Mass media prejudism on dogs have made people to believe that certain breeds are portrayed as savage, bloodthirsty, man-killing beasts. For instance, in the production of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the movie has made Bloodhounds to be known as that kind of dog but in fact, Bloodhounds were used to help criminals escape and hunt down slaves who ran away. In newspapers, articles were published on Northern breeds, such as Malamutes and Huskies. These breeds were made known to be equivalent to wolves where they were known to roam freely in packs and ravenously eat children when found. These Northern breeds sometime later were forgotten and replaced by German Shepherds of WWI as a demonic dog. A TV series called “RIN TIN TIN” held back this discrimination and made this breed out to be known as an amazing helper and protector for humans. Rottweilers and Dobermans were next to being known as a...
Their names are Zeus and Hera and they are some of the kindest, goofiest dogs I have lived with. My dogs love to play and cuddle more than anything. They don’t bark at people walking past the house, or at other pets and animals when they go on their daily walks. To me it is absolutely ridiculous that these sweet dogs are hated so widely across the country because PEOPLE gave them a bad reputation. The Breed of American Pit Bull Terriers is considered a “fight dog” breed today because criminals use them for illegal affairs such as protecting drugs and dog fighting. Pit bulls are extremely tough dogs, but it is not in their nature to fight. Fight dogs are beaten, abused, starved, and left in cages until they are sent to fight another dog. They are trained to act out this behavior that is not seen elsewhere. Humans train dogs to be viscous. There are rare cases where dogs are overly aggressive, however, in most of those instances the dog is a product of incest
It is difficult to correctly identify each dog by breed- some are mixed and tests are expensive.
Some might ask, why would anyone consider a dog their best friend? For many dog owners the answer would be loyalty. In a story from the Christian Science Monitor author William H. Carlile wrote, “There is a hero on West Eunice Street just outside the suburb of Tucson: a two-year-old female English Springer Spaniel named Brandy. She is credited by law-enforcement officials with attacking and chasing off an intruder last year at the home of her owners, Jerry and Kendal Plank, despite having been shot five times by a 9mm semiautomatic machine gun.”(11) This story is an excellent example of the loyalty a dog can acquire towards its masters, to be able to protect and even save lives. Loyalty is a very common trait given to dogs by their owners. Many of those who talk of the loyalty their dogs have for them will also have an incredible story to back up their beliefs. In an article in The Australian, an experienced hunter fell into a ravine and was unable to get out. He was there for five days before rescuers found him; they reported that temperatures fell below freezing at night and it rained three of the five night’s (007). His dog Bee, was able to get out of the ravine but decided to stay with his masters. Searcher Brent Keightley said, “If it wasn’t for the dog, Des wouldn’t have survived.” The article tells of how the dog slept with him to keep him warm during the freezing nights (007). This story not only demonstrates loyalty but also the faithfulness that a dog and master often share.
I will be investigating Human Blood as my specific tissue and giving an overview on the location, characteristics, and the benefits it has to the human body. Blood is extracellular matrix that is consists of plasma, red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells. Blood is located within the capillaries/veins/arteries of the human body, which are blood vessels that run through the entire body. These blood vessels allow the blood to flow smoothly and quickly from the heart to distinct parts of the human body. The unique parts of human blood all work together for a purpose: the Red Blood Cells(erythrocytes) transports oxygen throughout the body, White Blood Cells(leukocytes) play a part in the bodies immune system, Platelets(thrombocytes) assist in creating scabs,
The English Springer Spaniel was brought to England from Spain around 1570. Then they were called Norfolk Spaniels. In 1880, they were classified different from the Cocker Spaniel. Springers are the oldest of the spaniels. English Springer Spaniels are twenty-eighth in the AKA ranking and were the first dog in the US. One was brought over on the Mayflower with the Puritans and was at the first Thanksgiving. Hero William Wallace owned a Springer. Also, resident George bush had a Springer with him in the White House.
