The colors, scenery, words, actors, together will see what makes a person want to attend a movie. “The Blood of the Vampire”is the poster that I chose to describe. The title is dominant is the perspective that is catches the eye of the viewer because of the red orange hue used. Another reason is it appears to be dripping drops of blood. The effectiveness of the title “The Blood of the Vampire” is quite effective because it brings the sense of terror and chills. The colors bring suspense and fear as well. The poster uses some words on this particular poster. The writing is legible and the fronts chosen are legible and clear. The most dominant aspect is the picture with the exception of the title. The woman on the table brings fear. The man with the red eyes draw a viewer’s attention. The sponsors of this particular movie poster wanted the audience to feel fear and suspense, especially women because of the young woman on the movie poster strapped to a table. The intent of this sign is quite clear. The message is in the pictures more so then the words. The pictures draw the eye around the poster. During the Talladega 500, Cal Naughton Jr., Ricky Bobby's former best friend, pulled ahead of Ricky, allowing him to slingshot around his car and pass Jean Girard. Though Cal and Girard were teammates at Dennit Racing, Cal disregarded this and jeopardized his team's success to aid Ricky in the movie Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. This moment was crucial to Ricky, he having fallen from grace, going from NASCAR's top driver to being let go by Dennit Racing. The love Cal exhibited was a selfless form of love that was centered entirely around Ricky's happiness, not his own. Because of this selflessness, Cal compromised his own agenda, winning for Dennit, and disregarded personal consequence in hopes that Ricky would win the race. If you truly love someone as Cal loved Ricky, you must sometimes compromise your own interests for their benefit.

Essentially the posters intentions were to boost morale at home. This was a necessity since the United States had to cut short American liberties and rights in order to successfully wage a war. Such liberties included: food rationing, involuntary drafting, metal rationing, relocation of citizens, and many other restrictions. Posters were used to keep morale high and reassure the public just what they were fighting for and that victory is inevitable.
Posters were used during World War II by the U.S. government to get a significant message across to their citizens. To analyze a poster it is important to think about the choice of color, placement of words and images, shapes, and emotional appeal ( Lunsford and Ruszkiewicz 91). All of these factor into the message the author is trying to explain to its viewers visually. In the poster “When You Ride Alone,” the message the author was trying to get across to Americans was the importance of carpooling. Shakespeare used the image of blood to portray the central idea of Macbeth, King Duncan’s murder. The crime is foreshadowed in the second scene of the first act. The king shouts, “ What bloody man is that?” (I,ii,1) He is referring to a soldier coming in from battle. The soldier then explains to King Duncan of Macbeth’s heroics in battle. One assumes that Macbeth is bloody just like the soldier. The soldier describes Macbeth in action “Disdaining Fortune, with his brandished steel, / Which smoked with bloody execution.” (I,ii,17-18) This line connects Macbeth with killing, and hints at the future.
The words located at the bottom of the advertisement states, “smoking causes premature aging”, these words visibly display the Nicotinell stance against smoking. This only confirms the audience’s fear that smoking can actually be harmful to an individual’s health. The designers strategically put the words in small print at the bottom of the ad to keep the focus on what is going on in the picture; the organization did not want to take away from the visual’s shining moment. The organization gave the audience some credit that they were fully capable of putting the visual puzzle pieces together. The ad itself appears to be in a military instructional setting. The viewer’s eye is immediately drawn to the central focus of the document; a strong, physically fit African American woman in a combat stance, facilitating the techniques of martial arts. The entire ad is almost devoid of color, using instead, shading and highlighting strategies to draw the eye through the ad in the manner intended. Most of the ad is darkly shaded and blurred, lighter shades are used in the backdrop directly behind the woman highlighting her as the standout and the most important feature of the advertisement. Looking further, the viewer sees a group of Marines surrounding and beneath the woman focusing upward, as if she is on a stage giving a demonstration. Whereas the female is clearly outlined and visible, the surrounding men are darkened, almost blurry. She is obviously the boss here.
In America, many have come to recognize Iran as a terrorist nation, but in reality, many Americans stereotype Iranians because they misunderstand the country and how it got to that point. In Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel Persepolis, she gives her readers an inside look of Iran by writing about her childhood during the Iranian Revolution and the changes in her life during that time. The frames in Satrapi’s graphic novel draw similarities and differences between advertisements and the Iranian culture. After analyzing the Satrapi’s graphic novel to advertisements we will look at the similarities and differences of how graphic novels and advertisements use words and images to establish the visual rhetoric.
For this paper, I looked at two ads that I found extremely powerful. The first ad has a picture of a woman who cannot be recognized at all, with a picture of what she used to like in the bottom left corner of the ad. The ad states that “not everyone that gets hit by a drunk driver dies.” Thus revealing the woman as a victim of a drunk driver. The second ad that I have selected was a picture of a parking stall for handicapped drivers. The ad has in bold white letters “Every 48 seconds, a drunk driver makes another person eligible to park here.” These ads are both powerful in their own sense, however, the ad with the victim of the drunk driver strikes me much harder than the one with the handicapped parking stall. Although both of these ads use a strong sense of pathos to get you to feel bad for those affected by drunk drivers, the ad with the picture of the victim has a much stronger effect.
Movie posters have been around for a very, very long time. In essence they are just picture advertisements for their movies. The movie posters for action movies during the 80’s, which was a widely varied time in itself, were influenced by many things. These things ranged from the Vietnam War, the war on drugs and also things like the glorification of these wars. Colors played a large part in these posters because they tried to get their intended audience to feel a certain way and make them perform a specific action. Movie posters try to get their audience to go out and buy tickets to the movie they advertise, the way that they are set up plays a very large part in whether this happens or not.
In the play Macbeth , William Shakespeare uses blood as a symbol throughout the whole story to show the different emotions and themes within the context of the play. It’s a bit ironic for someone whose name means “the son of life” that he has to take so many lives instead of being a father to the people he was trying to rule. The play refers to blood in three key points to create great imagery in this play, guilt, honor, and family/ancestry are some strong points that this imagery is used.

Almost everyone has a favorite genre of film, but how everyone defines their favorite genre can differ greatly. Horror is one of the genres where its definition can be perceived differently by many people. Like all other genres, horror does have rules and traditions that must be included in order for a film to be considered a horror film. These rules and traditions include a protagonist, an antagonist, an escape or escape attempt of some sort, and very influential audio and visual effects.
