It is possible; Bill Gates is the most successful figure in the world, and he is worth 79.2 billion dollars. Gates is a very successful entrepreneur who founded Microsoft, the biggest software company in the world. In Outliers, written by Malcolm Gladwell has many theories that he believes lead to success. Many of Gladwell’s theories correlate to Gates’ success. Bill Gates is the most successful figure in the world because of his determination, which is illustrated in his early life, advantages and in 10,000 hours of practice. Bill Gates was born in Seattle, Washington on October 28, 1955. When Gates was 13 years old, he found an interest …show more content…
As stated in Success Magazine, “The son of an influential Seattle lawyer, Gates was only 14 years old when he took his first experimental pokes at a small computer” (Success Magazine). Bill Gates had a strong obsession for computers at a young age as stated in Bill Gates Story, “In fact, Gates obsession with computers grew so strong that he exploited the schools programs, which used fairly archaic computer code, to allow himself more computer time” (Bill Gates Story). As a result of this, Gates was banned from using the computers: “The ban did nothing to stop Gates obsession with computers, however, and within a year the teenager was building complex programs on his own” (Bill Gates Story). While attending Lakeside School, Gates met Paul Allen who is the co-founder of Microsoft. As stated in Entrepreneur, “When Gates was 15, he and Allen went into business together. The two teens netted $20,000 with Traf-O-Data, a program they developed to measure traffic flow in the Seattle area” (Entrepreneur). Gates is very intelligent, and at a …show more content…

Gladwell believes for someone to become successful he or she has to put in the time and effort. Gates is a great example of Gladwell’s 10,000 hour rule. He started computer programming at a young age and he put time into it as Gladwell states, “Bill Gates got to do real-time programming as an eighth grader in 1968” (51). During this time period not many eight graders were giving the opportunity to work with technology: “It was an “amazing thing,” of course, because this was 1968. Most colleges didn’t have computer clubs in the 1960s. Even more remarkable was the kind of computer Lakeside bought” (51).
Practice makes perfect someone isn’t going to get better at something or become successful if he or she isn’t determined, doesn't practice or put the time into
The theory that the more one practices the better one becomes. To follow the dream of excellence you must practice your assignment for a total of 10,000 hours or more. “The students who would end up the best in their class began to practice more than everyone else: six hours a week by age nine, eight hours a week by age twelve, sixteen hours by age fourteen, and up and up, until the age of twenty they were practicing well over thirty hours a week” (39) in a sense this excerpt confirms what society has told people for years, that practice makes perfect. Of course some people are born with raw talent, however how does one expect to improve their abilities if they do not rehearse. Anyone can be mediocre without practice, but in order to make it in the big shots one must give their one hundred and ten percent to beat out the competition. It’s all about how one distinguishes themself from another and the only way to do that is to show off that skill that has been practiced repeatedly. Preferably 10,000 hours
Malcolm Gladwell is a canadian-english journalist, speaker, and bestselling author. In his bestselling book “Outliers”, Malcolm Gladwell discusses success and what patterns correlate with it. He states that how much time you put into a certain activity, specifically 10,000 hours, can put you in a elite level of proficiency. This in turn can give someone the tools to allow them the ability to be successful. Using historical citations, patterns, and real life examples, Gladwell forms his 10,000 hour rule. Due to his knowledgeable yet calm tone Gladwell seems to show credibility. His intended audience could be people who enjoy statistics or people who want to be successful and find possible ways to do so. Gladwell uses a logical appeal to show the patterns he has found through his studies of success. He supports his claim with overwhelming statistics which back it. He also uses similes to help better understand how he can relate the patterns he has found for the elite in a certain activity to other things. Foil is probably Gladwell's best means of convincing the reader to his thesis of the 10,000 hour rule. He uses Foil to compare success and we define to legends such as Bill Gates The Beatles and Bill Joy. Overall Gladwell uses Logos, similes, and foils to support his claim of the 10,000 hour rule.
Imagine a book that offers the reader a key; a key that enables them to ride down the highway to success and see all of the stops along the way that are instrumental in achieving success. Malcolm Gladwell does precisely this in his novel Outliers, which examines some of history’s most successful people and then attempts to explain why they specifically became successful beyond their wildest dreams. Gladwell is a reporter for The New Yorker and an accomplished author in the areas of psychology, sociology, and social psychology. In Outliers, he presents his reasoning as to why some people become successful and some do not. One of his major points in this regard is the ten thousand hour rule, meaning that to master a topic and become extremely successful in that area, one must accumulate at least ten thousand hours of practice in that area. He closely examines the early lives and careers of some of history’s greatest success stories to make a fine argument for his case. However, his strong arguments in support of his theories on success are not as strong when they come to countering the “typical view”, as Gladwell sees it. Outliers is different than most persuasive novels in that by proving his point, Gladwell does not necessarily disprove other people’s view on success. He effortlessly utilizes logos, along with numerous examples and parallelisms to support his theories. However, his lack of ethos and strong counter-argument allows for the audience to understand his ten thousand hour rule without necessarily supporting it wholeheartedly. After proposing something unthinkable to the average mind, Gladwell goes on to explain his ten thousand hour rule theory using two, very descriptive, very in-depth anecdotes. He shows how multi-bil...
After having helped found what would be the world’s most popular and largest software company in 1975, Bill Gates officially found himself to be the richest man alive at the ripe, young age of only thirty-one. Gates had never imagined that the thirteen year old boy who loved to program computers in his parent’s garage would one day find himself to be considered the world’s wealthiest man alive, having a total net worth of $76 billion. Having began on his own, tinkering with computers and computer software, Gates later created the seed of Microsoft, or what was originally called Traf-O-Data in the summer of 1972. (Fast Facts) It wasn’t until two years later, with the help of his co-founder, Paul Allen that Microsoft was born, transforming the technological world in ways that the people had never seen. The birth of Microsoft changed the ways of old computers, making way for faster newer and more innovative technology, along with bringing on a strong competition with their rival company, Apple Inc. With this grand cooperation, Bill Gates was also accumulating a large mass of money, gradually finding himself to top the charts of the Forbes World Billionaires List. (Fast Facts) Despite being well known for his contributions to Microsoft, Bill Gates’ most profound impact on the American culture was in medical and educational advances provided by The Gates foundation, paralleled by his philanthropic views and aid in the lives of the both poor and wealthy.
Gladwell does not stop there though, he goes onto explain the rules' relevance in the bussiness world through Bill Gates. Gladwell goes on to summarize the opportunities that Gates schemes his way into. Gates is able to find ways to get in programming hours while computing was still in its prepubecent period. So by the time computing was blowing up, Gates already had his mass amount of hours completed.
Furthermore, the ability to reshape the world is not something that can be achieved without certain circumstances that give people these opportunities. The time period when someone is born has the ability to alter the entire course of their life and may cause someone to become one of the richest men on Earth, such as Bill Gates. Bill Gates was born in 1955, exactly twenty years before the technological revolution, which left him young and in the perfect position to create Microsoft. Being born in the 1950’s according to Gladwell left you, “old enough to be a part of the coming revolution, but not so old that you missed it.” (Gladwell, 65) This belief holds true for other technology typhoons: Paul Allen, born

To many of these outliers, Gladwell’s qualities of success applies to most of them. One of these truly successful people happens to be a japanese game developer named Satoru Iwata, most notably known as the former CEO of Nintendo. Satoru Iwata was born in the year of 1959 and grew up like any other family being raised by two loving parents. Like a handful of successful people in the electronics industry, Iwata displayed a deep fascination for electronics
Bill Gates once said “ I believe that with great wealth comes great responsibility , a responsibility to give back to society. ”(Cesinski 100). Here Bill Gates is saying that people who are more lucky money wise should give back to society to help the people who don't have as much luck it's almost like it's their responsibility. In this quote Bill Gates believes everyone with great wealth should give back to society like he does. Bill Gates is an important figure in American History because he gave back to society unlike most people with that amount of money would.
The global leader I have selected has so many qualities that words are not enough to describe his success and his effect in the way we live and see life. His name is William Henry Gate III or as we all know him as Bill Gates. William Henry Gate III was born in Seattle on 1955 and was raised in a wealthy family. His father was a successful attorney and his mother was a top executive at a national bank. This upbringing gave him the opportunity to study in the most prestige school on his state where he discovered his love for computers.

His is not simply a story of technical brilliance and enormous wealth; it is one of remarkable business vision and an obsessive desire to win. It is also about a leadership style that is radically different to anything the business world has seen before."
So here I present you the path that gave us the Bill Gates we have today. Firstly, Bill Gates was fortunate enough to be born in a fine and educated family, where his parents were an educator and a lawyer. He had the privilege to all the essential necessities, such as clothing, food, and water sources which many other kids do not have. More than that, his family was wealthy enough to buy him toys and games and other things which would be far too extravagant to others. These small things created a stronger foundation for Bill Gates’
