Bill Gates was a poor nerdy guy and switched to the richest person ever. He was a very curious and academic boy who actually attended the private school, Lakeside School. In his adult life he was accepted into Harvard, thinking he wanted to be a lawyer, but instead found he loved the computer and wanted to spend time with that. He was the most notorious in inspiring the thought of home computers. In the 1960s, while he and Paul were still in school, in the computer lab they learned the BASIC programming language. While BASIC was for beginners and created in 1963, it didn’t really fly until Allen and Gates produced a version for the Altair 8800. BASIC started the want for home computers in the 1980s and the computer software was used in many computers ranging from IBM, PC, and the Apple II to name just a few. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation started in 1997 when the Gates family read an article about the millions of children in poor countries who were dying from disease. They have been working to reduce poverty and poor health throughout the world ever since as well as create a better world for both future and present generations. The Gates Foundation is one of the few truly transparent organizations in the world where no money is going into the pockets of the founders. The two founders of the foundation are Bill Gates, who is the co-chair and a trustee, and his wife Melinda Gates, who is also, serves as co-chair and trustee. Other trustees are Warren Buffet and William Gates Sr. Several others work for the organization as both permanent staff and volunteers. On October 28, 1955 William H. Gates III (nicknamed "trey") was born in Seattle. His father was a lawyer (William H. Gates II) and his mother was a schoolteacher. He also had two older sisters who were in high school when Bill was born. Bill attended a public elementary school before he moved to a private school in North Seattle named Lakeside. Lakeside's strong academics enabled Bill to actively get involved with computers (which were the love of his life next to baseball) and use his superior intellect. This was the beginning of a long and successful career in computers.
