It's better to die for what you believe in rather than lie to save your life Do you like to lie to other people faces and still talk to them the same way like nothing happened? I would rather die than lie because lying is something that is never forgivable. For example, when you are about to die and someone wants to save you but then they remembered you lied to them so they probably won't save you. Also I would rather die because even after your life is spared you will still feel guilty and have to live with that guilt for a long time. I would rather take my punishment and die than to live a guilty life filled with lies and dishonor. People would lie to save themselves because they don't wanna die and they do not want to face reality and equality so they just lie and live a sinful life. Another thing is that I …show more content…
Abraham Lincoln died for what he believed in he believed that humans are all humans no matter that color or race. He fought for slavery and freedom of the african american he died by a gunshot because people thought he was wrong but he stood his ground and still pushed the end of slavery. Others like him also died what they believed in and they did not lie to get their rights. Also I would always fight for what is right because that is what I believe in and no one can stop me from doing so. If I do not believe in that then I will just walk the other way and pay no attention to it because that is not what I believe in while others will lie and fight for what they believe. We all have something to believe in and something to fight for so why would you lie to throw that all away. Respect is the number one thing I think people fight for because it is the hardest thing to get because it involves trust and if you lie you blow it all. People would die for respect because I think it is the highest form of trust that a human can give anyone. Also people that lie will eventually get bad
Lying is bad but the fear that can come from it is worse. Fear can rule a person which drives them to extreme and irrational acts that can shape society in a negative way. We as people are so accustomed to how we should act that during times of fear and crisis our vision is blurred and sometimes our decision making abilities are impaired. We often look past at how much fear can affect us and our society. Starting from Salem 1692 and going to the McCarthy era fear ruled the people and even now in present time America we are constantly living in fear.
The society that we live in today is built around lies. Banks lying to customers in order to feed the capitalist mindset, politicians lying to citizens in order to gain power, and charities taking donations with open arms however are stingy when giving back to the cause. The common reason why these organizations lie is to hide what they truly are. People also deceive others in order to hide who they truly are. From a young age, lying becomes engraved into one’s mind, we are taught to walk, talk, and lie.
I do not believe that anyone should get their feelings hurt when just saying an innocent white lie could save them so much drama. Also protective lies are very important to me. If someone is dealing with a lot of stress or a deathly illness, there is no need to put more on them. However, when it comes to peace keeping lies, I believe that they should not be used. These lies are very hard not to use, and I find myself using them despite my hardest efforts. Trust-keeping lies are one of the worst lies because I feel forced to choose between my personal morals and a friendship. Although I try not to lie at all, I find that social lies and protective lies are the most acceptable. I find that peace-keeping lies and trust-keeping lies are unacceptable yet I still understand that sometimes they are
Lying is an issue that has been debated on for a long time. Some people believe that lying is sometimes ok in certain circumstances. Some people believe lying is always acceptable. In contrast, some believe lying is always bad. Keeping all other’s opinions in mind, I believe that lying is a deficient way of solving problems and is a bad thing. I claim that only certain situations allow the usage of lies and that otherwise, lying is bad. Dishonesty is bad because it makes it harder to serve justice, harms the liar individually, and messes up records. Furthermore, it should only be said to protect someone from grave danger.
Lincoln should not have been killed for helping the north win the civil war. He was doing what he believed was right and he was right. He played a crucial role in the north and it’s victory. To help the North win he rallied the troops by giving his
Would lie to save yourself from punishment , or tell the truth regardless of the consequence?
Stephanie Ericsson’s The Ways We Lie, analyzes and reflects on how lying has simply become the norm in our society. We all lie, there is not one person in the world that does not lie. Most people lie because they are afraid of telling the truth, however what they do not know is telling a lie can lead them in the wrong direction because many things can happen when lying to a person. The person can find out when everything unravels that person will not have trust in you and you would be known as a liar. To every action there is a consequence, so why not deal with just one consequence when telling the
Abraham Lincoln was a very brave man. After the Civil War, he made a speech in front of the White House welcoming the southern states back into the Union. He also wanted everyone to have equal rights, even though people disagreed with him. He also ran for President even though he was against slavery. Many people disagreed with Lincoln, but he still won and was elected President and served 4 terms before his death in 1865.
Philosopher Immanuel Kant has a completely different perspective on the moral righteousness of lying. Kant believes it is unethical and sinful to lie no matter what situation presents itself. “Kant finds it especially offensive, contrasting the ‘dim, moles’ eyes fixed on experience’ with the ‘eyes belonging to a being that was made to stand erect and look at the heavens’. Kant believes in the ideology of promise keeping and if you break your promise, it is considered
Crucible that people should lie to preserve some things like life. In A Different Drummer,
The article, “Is Lying Bad for Us,” accurately describes the intentions of a “liar.” The author says, “Though liars do not tell the truth, they care about it, while the bullshitter does not even care about the truth and seeks merely to impress” (Gunderman). This statement proves that lying should not be viewed as out of the ordinary, or unacceptable, and that liars should not be viewed as bad people. Lying can be shown as a way of protecting or caring
Lincoln began his speech with an ethical appeal, “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” This ethical appeal establishes the shaped values that everyone believes in. Lincoln also attaches to the values and feelings to encourage Americans to feel that it is their job to fight for equality, as well as showing respect and appreciation for the human race since many “died in vain.” This ethical appeal creates a connection between the audience and the love that they share for their motherland. Lincoln came to honor the many soldiers who lost their lives because, “It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.” In remembering those who fought for us, Lincoln turned the battlefield into a memorial in order to give the lost, courageous souls the love and admiration that they all deserved. Lincoln believed that equality was an essential aspect in society and that the difficult fight for it was crucial. To establish the principle of equality in America,
We lie all the time, lying is not something new to our culture. We lie to our parents, we lie to our friends, we even lie to our significant other, but why do we do it? There is not one set reason on why we lie but they can vary from an insignificant reason to something more nefarious. A good operational definition of a lie is “A lie is a false statement to a person or group made by another person or group who knows it is not the whole truth, intentionally.” (Freitas-Magalhães) We have been raised to know that lying is usually a bad thing, and it’s better to tell the truth, not to mention the circumstances get exponentially worse if you are caught lying. No one wants to be labeled as a liar, or untrustworthy. This may sound unorthodox but I personally think lying is perfectly fine; depending on the situation. If you have a prima-facie duty to be dishonest it’s perfectly acceptable. Ross says a prima facie duty or obligation is an actual duty. “One’s actual duty is what one ought to do all things considered.” (Carson) I’m not the only one who finds this too be true. Ross would also agree with me, He says “Lying is permissible or obligatory when the duty not to lie conflicts with a more important or equal important prima facie duty.” (Carson) As I was doing research on this topic I did read one extremely compelling argument on why we ought not to lie. Aristotle basically said a person who makes a defense for lying could never be trusted. (King.)
Telling the truth teaches one person self- respect for themselves and others as well. Telling the truth also sets a good example for others to do the same thing and make a “chain reaction”. People can make a “chain reaction” by passing on what they have done from one person to another, and before you know it, everyone is changing greatly, and the world is progressing tremendously. Lies are told all around the world, and they are told every day. One lie can often lead to another lie and cause you to be caught up in one big lie that will be hard to get out of if people do not tell the truth. If a person thinks that is okay to lie, they better think again, the truth always comes out no matter how hard a person tries to keep it in, or how much someone thinks that they can get away with lying. No person can keep in or hold a grudge with what they have done. After all, telling the truth is the right thing to do, and everyone should do it. Telling the truth is always much easier than the trouble of a
Can you remember the last time someone lied to you? Or how about the last time you lied to someone else? Did you ever stop and ask yourself why? There are so many different reasons that a person might lie. Maybe a lie about something to keep oneself out of trouble, or even a lie to impress other people. But either way there are always going to be serious consequences or effects of lying.
