What is betrayal? Betrayal is to disappoint the hopes or expectations of; be disloyal to. In the Canterbury Tales, betrayal was expressed in many different ways and in many different stories.
The first example of betrayal is shown in “The Knight Tale”. The storie starts out by two swore brothers that get put in prision together. While they spent years in prision, they seen a very beautiful women in the gardens. They both really liked this girl and argued over her. After managing to get out of prision, they run into each other in the woods trying to get close to the beautiful women. They confront each other and have a duel over the women. The sworne brothers in the story betray each other by going to extreme lenghts to fight over a girl they hardly knew.
The second example of betrayal shown in “The Parddoners Tale”. The tale starts begins with three drunk rioters decide to find Death and kill it because it took one of their friends. Having a person betray someone can occur in many different ways. In the Caterbury Tales, betrayal to one another occurs often in the stories because of wanting a women, gold and greed.
