It is great for children to be enrolled in sports. It helps teach them many skills. Sports also can improve a child’s social skills. Some sports have better outcomes than other sports. For example, Soccer is a great cardio sport, but it does not teach posture and it is not as strict of a sport. Figure Skating, when done competitively, is a very strict sport. The training is very difficult, and the skills completed have to be very precise. The atmosphere is very professional. Although the sport is very difficult and sometimes stressful or frustrating, it has many beneficial outcomes.

Considering a figure skating coach is basically there to tell the skater how to do the element and that they believe in the skater, there already is a strong support system. Once a figure skater masters a new element, they learn that they need to go into it with confidence. Figure skaters do not only learn confidence, but they also learn how executing an element with confidence helps them execute it better. “Confidence is something that comes from within, it is only attainable once you are mentally strong and physically prepared” (Angela 1). A figure skater works on presenting themselves to be pleasing to the judges. This converts to real life because they learn how to make people perceive them in different ways. This can be important for job interviews or meeting new people. When a person knows how to act and appear, they will feel a lot more confident. Figure skating shows a person what confidence feels like. It is obtained through tons of hard work, but it pays off. This helps the skater in the future because they will know that if they work hard, they will be more confident because they are prepared. Some figure skaters that go to elite level competitions even have mind coaches. These mind coaches give them strategies to help them with confidence and stress. Figure skating has a very positive effect on the body due to the amount and precision of the training. Competitive figure skaters often skate twelve to fifteen hours a week. In addition to that, they do two hours of yoga, five hours of resistance training, and three hours of ballet. Figure skating and resistance training are both great because they are great cardio workouts. After a day of figure skating and resistance training, the figure skater will be sore, unless they did not work as hard as they should have. The two hours of yoga works a lot on flexibility, but also on muscle strengthening and concentration. The ballet training is for continuing the focus on posture and technique. It also works on the way figure skaters carries themselves. From all of these different types of required exercises to become a competitive threat, the figure skater is in great shape.
