After school, from 3 to 6 p.m, is a critical period of time in a child’s life. After school programs help keep kids safe and inspire them to learn during that period of time. After school programs are organized programs that youth can participate in outside of a traditional school day. Enrolling children in after school programs would provide them with benefits that unenrolled children would not receive, such as reduce risky behavior and promote physical health. After school programs provide a safe environment for children, while positively impacting their academics, safety, and their future.

Some after school programs offer tutoring to help students in the subjects they are struggling with. After school programs could provide a more one on one learning experience that their teacher may not be able to provide for them. Many after school programs encourage more participation in school. When children participate more in school, they become more involved in the learning process and therefore learn and retain more information. Math test scores are the most common scores that improve in children that attend after school programs. These students also have better attendance and skip less class than classmates not enrolled in after school activities. Rather than interacting with other children their age, most of their time is spent with their parents or an adult tutor. Forming close friendships and socializing with other children is vital for the development of your child 's social skills and overall emotional health according to Liza Blau, Everyday Life Magazine. While attending public school student have everyday interactions with adults and most importantly other students. Without everyday interactions with adults, students will have a hard time developing their emotional growth and developing autonomy. A big aspect of public school that you don’t always get, is teaching knowledge that professional teachers have. When a parent decides to teach there student you could make the argument that the student would be receiving a worse education, although no one has a better understanding of their student like a parent would. One very popular idea parents are adopting is to hire a private tutor for their child. Tutors are a great tool parents can use for children, although a lot of parents today aren’t financially sound, therefore parents are unable to afford a private tutor for their children. A struggle parents have is getting the socialization their child needs, since most public school activities are not an option.
These after school programs are very important for the future of thousands of elementary aged kids. For those less fortunate kids that do not have supportive parents or appropriate supervision at home, after school programs give those children a chance to receive constructive attention from a mentor. Because I feel these programs are so beneficial, I am very interested in the further spread of after school programs among public schools nationwide. However, the progress of the elementary mentoring must begin one school district at a time.
In the “The Crucial Role of Recess in School” (2012) article it explains, many schools are beginning to replace physical activity, like recess, with more attention to academic subjects. What these schools are forgetting is that well-supervised recess also has benefits that surpass academics. They help make a well rounded student because recess offers cognitive, social, emotional, and physical benefits to the student when they are young that they carry with them into adulthood.

The students who do not have the parent support and role models as young children are less likely to succeed in life. Children from single parent homes are more likely to use and abuse drugs (Hoffmann “The Community Context of Family Structure and Adolescent Drug Use”) as well as twice as likely to commit suicide and/or have a psychiatric disease (www.webmd.com). One of the ways that teachers can reach and influence these students is through afterschool programs. 57% of students from single parent homes are enrolled in some form of after school program from grades 1 through 5 (Working Families and Afterschool A Special Report from America After 3 PM: A Household Survey on Afterschool in America 2). Children often learn their social skills from watching their parents interact with others. After a long afternoon, those students who stay after school rely on the school provided snack to get them through dinner. It is very important that this snack is nutritious so that they receive the energy needed to get through the evening. The CATCH Kids Club is an after school program which focuses strictly on improving nutrition and physical activity in elementary school students’ lives (3). This particular program focused on training after school care staff and teaching them the tools necessary to teach children about nutrition after hours. The focus was on setting up lessons and plans providing an outline of what the snack was and the physical activities that were going to be done during that time (3).
Preschool isn't just a place for parents to drop off their children while they are at work for the day. It is in preschool where children learn the necessary skills needed to succeed in school and in life. With high-quality preschools and qualified teachers the possibilities are endless. It's not only the children who reap the benefits of Early Childhood Education; their parents, fellow peers, and even society feel the positive effects of quality preschool programs. Children enrolled in quality preschool programs are more likely to succeed academically and socially when they are older.
As an old saying goes “parenting does not come with a guide book”. Most parents fear and will agree that adolescence is the age when the kids are the most difficult to handle. It is the age in which the child is experiencing a transitional stage. The child is experiencing physical changes and psychological human development that brings a desire to try to connect to the world. It is the age when the child starts to become more independent and starts to think he/she knows it all, and that is when problems arise. In this report I will analyze the positive and negative impact of curfews on teens. I will make a comparison and draw a conclusion to answer the question if curfews help to keep teens out trouble.
Early childhood education is teaching imparted to children of up to about eight years either formally or informally. Studies have shown the physical, emotional and social development of young children directly affects their overall growth and the adults they grew to be. Children enrolled in formal education programs that give them a head start before kindergarten tend to be more well behaved, learn faster and have higher IQ scores than their peers who did not get a prior formal education before kindergarten enrollment. The homeschooling is a controversial topic as many have very different ideas on what they want for their children. The idea to opt for homeschooling originated in the 70s in parts of Europe but at passage of time it has spread throughout the world, now more than half million American boys and girls and about ten thousand. British do not attend public school or private school because their parents have come to the conclusion that at home can get a good education. Teens need to have activities after school. When they do not they get into mischief. Once teens get involved with activities such as sports they do not have the time to run around and create problems. As teens learn to perform better in their sport or activity, the feeling of their success or accomplishment my drive them to continue practicing and to get better. Furthermore, the researchers took time to observe children in the program settings to observe possible achievement. Test scores were gathered from the children’s standardized scholastic tests and report cards. The researchers also gathered copies of attendance records, behavior records, and participation in extracurricular activities. Some observations were made during classes to observe the control group students’ progress within classes.
