By this, the importance of biotechnology in agriculture increases the crop production which makes it double or even higher than the normal harvest yield. Biotechnology has the ability to give biological protection from disease and pests, thus making chemical insecticides a minor necessity. It has the capability of conveying genetic qualities of the crops that can withstand the changing climate condition and help obtain an increase of nutritional qualities. This provides farmers with a healthy lifestyle due to the less exposure of chemical residues and eventually a higher profit.
Benefits of biotechnology can also be acknowledged in the medical profession. Its technological applications include pharmaceutical products and medicines, and human therapy. It helps produce large quantities of protein for nutritional supplements and insulin for diabetic patient treatment. It is estimated that in Asia alone, close to 800 million people go to bed hungry every night due to food shortage.
